Maths Week Scotland – Tickets Please

It is maths week this week and schools across Scotland have been completing challenges and finding out about maths. Not to be left out we’ve focused lots of our learning around counting and numbers.

Here the boys decided to use the chairs to make a taxi which became so busy they changed it into a bus, they then decided they needed tickets for the bus.  They made tickets and wrote numbers on them and counted everyone on and off.

Happy / Sad Face coming soon………

We thought it would be good to try to support our children who are feeling a little down when they arrive at nursery. Often it is obvious if a child is upset but sometimes they need asked if everything is okay. We thought that if mums/dads/carers asked this question when the child signed in and then put the appropriate ‘face’ beside their child’s name we would get a ‘heads up’ to any child who needed a little comfort at the beginning of the session.

As always we will give this approach a try and then collect your thoughts on how well (or otherwise) it worked.

Tasty Treat

When we returned from our summer holiday the trees in the nursery garden were laden with apples.  We decided to put them to good use by stewing them.  The children helped to collect them and took turns to wash the fruit, chop it and cover it with a little sugar before cooking it.  Everyone was asked if they wanted to taste, some liked it more than others.
