Maths Week in P3M

Happy Maths Week!

One of our favourite activities of the week was called ‘Framing Rectangles’.
On Wednesday we used squares in a challenge to make as many different sized rectangles as we could. Here are some photographs of our creations…

We have had lots of fun celebrating Maths week in P3M!

Inspirational Maths in P2G

We enjoyed a very creative maths lesson today.  The children were breaking down numbers visually and looking for patterns and groups.  The children showed some great mathematical thinking and understanding and were able to transfer their thinking into our number talk.  Great effort today, well done everyone.

Maths is fun in primary 1

We have worked on a variety of tasks in class this week.  We have sorted out emojis into sets, made 2D shapes using skipping ropes, discussed how we can make numbers in different ways using our fingers and made lots of different shapes using squares.  We learned that completing maths tasks well involves team work, thinking carefully, not rushing and having a go-even if it seems tricky.  Nobody will make fun of us for trying our best-we have the confidence to have a go.  The story of Giraffes can’t Dance helped us understand what it means to have a Growth Mindset.

X-Ray Hands in P5/6

Reported by Joe and Ellie

We have been doing X-Rays and we made our own X-Rays of our hands. We used chalk, black paper and backing paper. Here is some information about X-Rays: X-Rays are a type of light, which you can’t actually see. X-Rays can travel through skin and muscle but not through bone. For an X-Ray to be taken you need a special machine that shines the X-Rays through your hand and onto a type of special paper. The X-Rays that hit the paper, turns the paper black but the X-Rays that hit the bones does not hit the paper and it stays white.

Here are examples of our work:-

Great report guys, now I understand how X-Rays are taken!

P2G Maths Week

In maths today we were looking at number patterns and tried to find all the different ways we can make numbers, we used our fingers to help us.  We agreed that our priority was not to see who could be the first one finished but to see who could use the best mathematical thinking.
