Apples!

Last term,P2a went on an outdoor walk around our school garden. We discovered that there were apple trees growing! Some of the apples were ripe and had fallen to the ground. We collected some and took them back to class. Then we looked closely at them and noticed the different colours. Some were green, some red, some a little yellow and some had a mixture of colours.

P2 then explored blending techniques with paint.  We created our own 3D apple paintings!

So delicious and yummy!

P2a Art – Van Gogh

Last term P2a were learning about farming. We looked at wheat and how it grew and was harvested. We found out about different foods that were made from wheat too.

Then we studied the painting – wheatfields with crows by Van Gogh.  P2a used oil pastels to create their own version of the painting.  We enjoyed using this different type of media, even though our fingers got messy!

Have a look at our wonderful wheat fields!

P6A Halloween Stained Glass Windows

This week we were making some Halloween stained glass windows.  The materials we used were tissue paper (any colour), black paper, PVA glue and scissors. First we had to draw our designs on the black paper.  Second we cut it out.  To begin cutting it out, we had to fold the paper and make a slit.  Once we finished cutting, our design looked something like this:

Finally we added tissue paper to the back using the PVA glue.  Here are some of our finished designs:

Halloween/fireworks

This week the children enjoyed celebrating Halloween. We had fun carving pumpkins and dressing up . For snack we had spooky witchy fingers, ghost bananas and pumpkin tangerines. We have been discussing with the children the importance of firework safety and how to keep ourselves safe. We have been very creative and made some sparkly firework pictures.

Firework Safety in Primary 1

We used chalk and oil pastels to make bright and colourful pictures of a bonfire and fireworks. We also learned to recognise and write ‘f’ on the same day-great timing!

We have been working with our P7 buddies to remember how to keep safe this weekend. We enjoyed designing firework posters and talking about rules to remember when we are watching fireworks or near a bonfire.  Everyone had the chance to show their poster, talk about what we most enjoyed about making the poster and tell the class one important rule to keep us safe.

Rory-never ever ever put a sparkler near to your eye.

Samuel-never play with fireworks because they could burn you.

Quin-don’t put fireworks near your face.

Katy-hold sparklers at arms length.

Emily-only grown ups should buy and light fireworks, it is safer to go to a special display.

Cory-don’t go back to a firework that didn’t work.
