Malawi Update

Owen  Kasitumo from our partner school, Nanjala Primary, in Malawi has been in touch to give us an update on how our fundraising money is being spent. This year we have provided more pupil desks, this means that we have now provided desks for 3 classrooms where children no longer need to sit on a concrete floor all day. We have also provided a teacher desk.

On my last visit in October 2016 the girls netball team asked if they could have netball hoops. These have now been made and the girls are delighted that they can practise properly and have matches with other schools.

The desks and hoops have been made by local craftsmen, meaning that our fundraising is also helping the local community and promoting sustainable development.

We have also funded a post office box address for the school which will make it much easier for our letters to reach their destination sooner. The children of Uphall primary will be putting this to the test shortly when they write letters to their pen pals.

We will be continuing  our fundraising with some new and exciting initiatives. Meanwhile please send in any 1p and 2p coins and we will try to make another mile before summer.

Many thanks for your continuing support.

P1 Teddy Bears Picnic

P1M and P1S children visited the Botanic gardens in Edinburgh for a very special teddy bears picnic today.  We learned what bears need to survive-ask us about SWAF (Shelter, Water, Air and Food).  We hunted for paw print clues, played games and built our own islands in groups.  Tosca, our school teddy, had a great day out and was very well behaved.  We were even joined by some ducks this afternoon!

The children are desperate to go back again-maybe you could visit at the weekend or during the summer holidays?

You were commended on your super behaviour-well done boys and girls, it was a pleasure being part of this great day with you.  I’m sure we’ll all sleep  soundly tonight!  Tosca is already snoring!!

A special thank you to our parent/adult helpers-we hope you enjoyed your day out too.

Bringing Water to School

As the weather gets warmer the children will need to be drinking water in school. As such we would like to remind all pupils to bring a water bottle to school every day. Still juice, not fizzy, should only be brought for snack or lunch and not for drinking in the classroom.
Remember- a hydrated brain is a learning brain.

P6 Lendrick Muir: Day 1

A great first day has been had by all at Lendrick Muir.

We had a welcome meeting as soon as we arrived where we learned all about the facilities and our activities for the week. We also learned that we have to make our own beds… our first big challenge! Then we had a scavenger hunt and got to explore some of the grounds.

We then stopped for a delicous 2-course lunch. The food is amazing here and we’re all being very well fed!

Next we split into our activity groups and had a go at lot of different activities… one highlight for all today was definitely the Inflatables! We all had a good laugh at our teachers trying the Bungee Run!

We’ve just had dinner (another yummy 2-courser!) and we’re about to settle for tonight’s entertainment… A Murder Mystery! Afterwards we’ll have some supper and (try!) to have an early night to gain plenty of rest for tomorrow’s activities.
