Literacy – responding to music

Good morning, P2/3.

I hope you had a lovely sunny weekend and you are enjoying MUSIC WEEK.

Reading/Writing:

L.I: To write expressively about a piece of music

Today in literacy, I would like you to listen to a piece of music then think, discuss and write about how this makes you feel.  This is called listen and respond. Listen to a song by the Scottish band, Runrig.

Ideas:

Loch Lomond: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJ7f0HUk8OU

Going Home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P91gCIzv40I

Now, consider how the piece of music makes you feel and the instruments you can hear within it. Does the piece of music remind you of anything? Do you the like the music? Pretend you are a teacher and read my examples.  Is one example better than the other?  Are they good enough to be a WAGOLL?  Did I forget a few things?

Example – Going Home:

No, it doesn’t remind me of anything

no, I don’t like the song. (I actually do like this song!)

I can hear singing and drums

the song makes me feel sad.

Example – Loch Lomond:

Yes, this song reminds me of trips to Loch Lomond with my family. (and my wedding)

Yes, I like this song because it is fast and slow.

I can hear bagpipes, singing and drums.

The song makes me feel upbeat and I want to jump about to it.

Share our answers about my examples with someone at home then write your own answers in your jotter, on paper or use this template:

Make sure you write in full sentences with capital letters and full stops.  Remember to explain if you like it or not using ‘because’.  I’d love it if you could share your responses with me.

Literacy – creating lists with headings

Buenos dias, P2/3!  This is our TT for week 8:

I hope you are managing to enjoy the sunny weather.  Hopefully you’ve revised or learned some new French words/phrases and some new Spanish words/phrases.  We thought, with the weather getting better, you might be able to pretend you’re going on holiday.

Today, I’d like you to pretend you’re planning a holiday.  You could use the most popular destination from your Monday/Tuesday maths lessons or you could choose a different dream location.

I’d like you to make a list of items to take in your holiday suitcase using headings.  Before you start your own list, read the one I’ve started.  There are four pictures at the bottom.  These are items I’ve still to sort under the headings.  Can you sort them for me?  You can then use this template to help you write your own list or you can write in your jotter or on paper.

Once you’ve done this, why not brush up on your languages (using the grids below) before tomorrow and Friday’s literacy tasks:

P2/3 Friday 22nd May – Literacy, Money Grid and Assembly

Friday 22nd May 2020

Literacy – Money facts

Thanks to everyone who shared their personal stories about what they are saving for.  Did you guess it’s my Sophie who is saving for Heelys? (not me!).

***ANNOUNCEMENT***

School Assembly will be at 10am today.  If you have an older sibling in P4-7 you will be able to watch with them through TEAMS.  Listen out for a shout out from Miss Anderson and myself.  We are so proud of everyone trying their best to work at these times but we can’t mention every single one of you today.  We will hopefully be doing this every week from now on so stay tuned….

Today we are going to listen to a Cat in the Hat story about money.  It’s an American book so, although it describes American currency (not British), it’s still funny to listen to the rhyming words and learn about the history of money.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgkMUaiOuqQ

After listening to the story, think about these questions.  You can answer them by telling someone, writing down your answers in your jotter or on a piece of paper.

  1. Did you learn anything new/interesting about the history of money?
  2. Find out about the history of British money. Write down at least three facts you have learned (below is a template to get you stared).
  3. If you haven’t done so already, look at the money grid. One option is to design your own coin or note.  Why not try that today or over the weekend?

Money Facts

It would be great if you have the time to complete the eform to tell us what you thought about money stories and the money grid this week.  Thank you.

FUN FOR THE WEEKEND:

As it is Mental Health Awareness Week, you could try some of these activities over the weekend (Kindly shared by MIss Rodger).  Personally, I love going for nature walks with my girls, gardening and reading.  We have potted lots of seeds and we are having a sunflower competition to see who’s sunflower grows the tallest.  I’d love to hear what you are doing to stay healthy and relaxed.

Literacy – personal writing

Thank you for sending in pictures of your shopping lists, Supermarket Zoo answers and any other money grid work.  You’re all working very hard in such lovely weather.  I hope you had fun in the sunshine yesterday.

Reading:

Today, listen to the Max and Ruby story, Bunny Money.  Listen carefully to how much money they have and how much they spend.  ($1 or one dollar = £1 or one pound).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcVaypXBEqg

  1. Listen to the story again and make a note of everything Max and Ruby buy.
  2. How much do they spend?
  3. What interesting sayings about money did you hear in this book?

You can tell someone your answers, write them in your jotter or on a piece of paper.

Writing:

Max and Ruby were saving their money to buy a special gift for their Grandma.  Are you saving for anything special at the moment?  Tell me about it by writing a personal piece of writing.  You can tell someone, write a story in your jotter or on a piece of paper.

* As an extra can you draw in detail the item(s) you are saving for?

Below is an example for you to give you an idea.  It’s not what I’m saving for – I wonder if you can guess who is saving for this?

I am saving for…

You can also choose any of the options on the MONEY grids to complete.
