In Primary 6 we have started a new topic all about Natural Disasters.
To understand the causes behind Natural Disasters, we first had to learn about the structure of planet Earth.
We learned that Earth is made up of five layers; the crust, the upper mantle, the lower mantle, the outer core and the inner core. We also learned that the crust is made up of many different pieces called tectonic plates and that these plates can move around.
We made little models of Earth out of modelling clay and we used a different colour of clay for each layer. Finally, we cut into our models to see a cross-section of Earth. It looked really cool!

Yellow – the inner core.

Red – lower mantle.
Purple – upper mantle.
Blue and green – the crust.
