Competition Time!

We have been reading George’s Marvellous Medicine in class. On Friday we had a competition to draw a scene from the book and colour the picture. The best would be our winner. Well it was so difficult to choose! I was only meant to pick 1 but I’ve picked 6 winners! Here they are. All will get into my prize box on Monday! Well done – Cerys M, Mikey, Aiden, Leland, Claire and Grace!

P6A The Structure of The Earth

In Primary 6 we have started a new topic all about Natural Disasters.

To understand the causes behind Natural Disasters, we first had to learn about the structure of planet Earth.

We learned that Earth is made up of five layers; the crust, the upper mantle, the lower mantle, the outer core and the inner core.  We also learned that the crust is made up of many different pieces called tectonic plates and that these plates can move around.

We made little models of Earth out of modelling clay and we used a different colour of clay for each layer.  Finally, we cut into our models to see a cross-section of Earth.  It looked really cool!

Here are some pictures of us making our models and the final results:

Yellow – the inner core.

Orange – outer core.

Red – lower mantle.

Purple – upper mantle.

Blue and green – the crust.
