Proving that all the fun doesn’t happen at camp the P7’s made healthy vegetable soup. They developed valuable life skills while washing, chopping and grating a variety of vegetables which included parsnips, leeks and sweet potatoes.
Discuss the Parable with your family. Remember that this Parable reminds us that God is always ready to welcome us back and forgive us, no matter what we’ve done.
Take time to talk to God about the times you have not shown love.
Patryk was identifying different words in a text. We had to circle words which begin with a h green, words with oo in the middle are yellow and words with a d at the end will be purple. We really enjoyed this task.
Kyle and Casper are taking part in the paired time challenge. We challenged our partner to check how many subtraction sums they could answer in 1 minute. What was your best score?
Sophie and Poppy decided to have an extra play at the bus stop game during a choice task as part of a numeracy lesson.
Sophie was finding different ways to make 10 during our big maths CLIC session. Sophie found that 9 and 1 make 10.
Kaimee was playing the alien pairs game in our CLIV session. We had to find the aliens and their partner to make 10. You could play this game at home too.
Rutendo found lots of different ways to make 10. Well done, Rutendo.
We really enjoyed playing the bus stop game. Do you have this game at home?
Hayley done a super job of colouring in all the pictures of words which begin with a f. Great work, Hayley.
Kerr and Kaitlyn showed great teamwork when playing a subtraction board game. I wonder who was the winner of this game?
We can’t believe it’s Friday again, the weeks are flying by in P1! Here are some of the highlights of the week (sorry for the lack of photographs but we have been so busy that we forgot to take them):
In writing this week we learned a new skill, editing and redrafting. We all looked at each others pirate adventure stories and thought of ways to up level them and change the greens to pink. We then rewrote our stories onto a scroll. Some of the stories are being entered into the Young Writers competition and we decided to put the others into a book for our class library.
In numeracy we continued to learn about subtraction and focused on subtracting from 8 and 9. It’s important that we have good number sense and understand different strategies for solving subtraction stories. We enjoyed using the subtracting apps on the ipad and we all managed to log onto sumdog during our number carousels. Another of our favourite activities was the space subtraction puzzle. We played a new game this week ‘bus stop’. The aim of the game was to roll 2 dice then move your bus the correct number of spaces on the board. If you landed on a plus sign you got to add passengers to the bus, if you landed on minus you had to take away passengers. Well done to Paul L and Nathan who were our winner’s!
To finish our pirates topic we made some healthy pirate snacks using cheese and apples. Before we started we had to learn about the skills and equipment needed. We also discussed the importance of washing our hands before handling food.
We want to share this video with you about being germ smart:
Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and the best bit was eating the leftovers!! We were also able to make lots of learning links, Paul M made links to symmetry when slicing the apple, James cut his apple into halves, Ephraim cut the cheese into cubes. Here are some photos of us hard at work!!
We finished the week by watching some growth mindset dojo clips. These reminded us about the importance of exercising our brains and not giving up, especially if we are finding things tricky to begin with. Instead of saying “I can’t.. say I can’t YET!”
Pupil voice:
Lucy – I enjoyed Easter structured play.
James – I enjoyed learning about food technology.
Klaudia – I liked playing with the soft toys at Golden time.
Isla – I like my new reading book.
Mark – In number work we have been learning about subtraction. I can do my sums in my head.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the spring sunshine while it lasts!!
This week has been an amazing week in Primary 5! Everyone has worked really hard and there has been some fabulous learning taking place. In Maths we have been learning about Money and we have been multiplying and dividing and remembering our decimal points!
During our French we have been learning how to describe ourselves and we have been playing ‘C’est qui?’ which is the French version of ‘Guess who?’.
We also took part in the James Young Cluster Basketball Festival on Thursday and we showed what fantastic basketball skills we have! We all scored loads of points and we had a really enjoyable afternoon. Mrs Reeves was extremely proud of us all!
Here are some of our comments:
Bea: This week in Writing we were working on an emotional piece of dialogue. We learnt how to use punctuation for speech and we based our dialogues on the characters from our class novel, The Desperate Journey. It was awesome and mine was read out and shared with the whole class!
Taylor: We met our new deputy head teacher Mrs Smith today and she is amazing! We hope she enjoys being at St Ninian’s!
Lorena: On Thursday we went to Craigswood Sports Centre for our Basketball Festival. It was really fun and active and we all really enjoyed it.
Vanessa:When we were at the Basketball trip, we were split into six different teams and we all tried to earn as many points as we could. I managed to score two points by myself and I was so proud!
Toni: Today Mrs smith came to teach us and we really enjoyed it. She is so nice!
Another packed week in Primary 6! We have finished our Time topic in Maths and all the children are more confident telling the time, using timetables and solving problems involving speed and distance.
This week the children also presented their findings on how animals use sound to communicate. The group posters and presentations were all excellent and we have added to our knowledge about sound waves – fantastic!
Whilst watching Newsround this week we were inspired by one of the stories about using British Sign Language. We were all very interested and used a video to help us learn the alphabet. It was great to see everyone trying their best to learn this and helping each other to remember some of the tricky letters! If you would like to try this, here is the video we watched:

Here are some of our comments about our learning this week, as always it’s great to have a class full of enthusiastic learners.
Amera-this week we had to do 2 division sheets. We also had PE and in PE we worked on the ropes and we were working on our abs, core and thighs. We also got buddies and my buddy is Seren.
Erin-on Friday we had our committees.
Kieran- this week we did the junior writing contest.
Shiv – this week we used the ropes for PE.
Jennifer-this week we used the ropes in PE and I climbed them by myself twice. We learned sign language and it was so fun, I now know the whole alphabet in sign language and can say anything I want.
Emma-This week in PE we did more on the ropes and hockey, I personally love hockey so much!
Emily- this week we did more ropes for PE and it was so fun but really hard to do certain things. Some of us found out who our buddy is going to be!
Aliza- this week we found out lots of exciting information about our overnight stay at Low Port! Some of us also found out our buddies! This week I loved doing hockey!
Mia So- This week we had a Low Port meeting , and chose what we would have for lunch and who we might like to share a room with. My buddy is called Kayla .
Rugare- This week we got told who our buddies will be, my buddy is called Blake.
This week to finish off our money topic we have been counting money and finding change from an amount.
We know that you have to complete a subtraction sum to find out how much change. We found it tricky when we were buying more than 1 item at the shop because then we had to do an adding sum to find the total amount and a take-away sum to find how much change.
We loved playing the Pop to the Shops board game because it allowed us to use all of the skills we have learned so far in our money topic.
In numeracy this week we have been learning how to count in 3’s and recapping counting in 5’s.
At our independent station we completed a count by 3 dot to dot and a count by 5 ordering activty. The activities were really fun and helped us to practise our counting skills.
We really enjoy singing the count by 3’s song.
Last week we went to Purves Puppets and we completed puppet investigations and designs.
Following on from this we have been making puppets in class this week using different materials and by looking back on our designs from last week.
We have been using socks, pens, spoons, lollipop sticks, paper templates, wool, scissors and glue. We will be using our puppets in class during our structured play.
Ahmad-” We made Goldilocks and the three bears puppets. We worked together to do it by sharing the materials.”
In writing this week we wrote an imaginative story about being a princess or a prince for the day. Our stories were amazing and Miss Boyes loved reading them because we had worked hard to meet our success criteria. Our stories were interesting because we used lots of amazing adjectives. Here are some examples from our star writers.
For art we used oil pastels to create portraits of ourselves as a prince or a princess. We included different patterns in our drawings.
On Tuesday we went on a trip to the library at the Lanthorn. We love our library trips because we learn lots about the different books.
This week we learned more about the difference between fiction and non-fiction books.
Marcus- ” A fiction book is a book that tells a story and is not true.”
Julia-” A non-fiction book is not a story book.”
Abdullah-” A non-fiction books has facts which are true.”
We enjoyed returning our books and choosing a new book to read in class.
We love our fairyland structured play. We took part in lots of different activities for the curricular areas. Once we have finished our activity we evaluate it on our sheet by colouring one of the faces.
Here we are at our listening and talking station using our finger puppets.
We enjoyed the numeracy word problems with a fairytale theme. We worked in pairs to solve the problems.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend from Miss Boyes and primary 2!
In reading, we have been looking at inference questions because we were finding this tricky! We have learned that we need to use the information we are given from a photograph or a text to make sensible suggestions when giving answers. We enjoyed using the comprehension cubes during reading.
We thoroughly enjoyed writing this week where we were writing a recipe for our Viking Oatcakes. We learned all about the important features that have to be used when writing instructions.
Ailie – “I learned how to lay it out and put a list of the ingredients and the equipment at the top.”
Brooke – “We had to use time conjunctions like first, next and finally.”
Evie – “I learned that we had to use bossy words to explain the method. Some of the bossy words I used were; mixed, pour and stir.”
In maths, we have been developing our understanding of fractions! We have been revising fractions of shapes and learning about fractions of a set, fractions on a number line and equivalent fractions.
Jan – “I know that if I am stuck with a fraction I can go back and use my division knowledge to help me!”
In RE this week, we have continued preparing for our First Holy Communion. We were remembering the importance of Sunday being a day of rest and a time where we reflect on our faith. We have been revising the prayers we learned for our reconciliation and discussing the importance of going to confession.
As we are coming to the end of our Viking topic, we worked collaboratively to create posters to show all that we have learned about Vikings! Some of our favourite facts have been:
“Vikings used to play piggy in the middle with bear skins.” – Haseeb
“Vikings were very active in the slave trade.” – Kacper
“Vikings ate pork, fish, berries and oats.” – Hannah
“On the front of a Viking Longboat there is a figure head which represents a spiritual Viking God!” – Adrin.
We enjoyed sharing some of our Topic homework with our classmates. They were all super! Models, posters, PowerPoints and props! Great effort P4!
We hope you have a nice weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all of our fabulous Mums!
“This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command… Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.”(John 15:12-15)
Today’s challenge – Pray for a friend.
Prayer for a Friend
I will pray for you, my friend.
I will name you in my heart before God and ask all His blessing be upon you.
I will be concerned for your rising and your daily mood.
I will be sympathetic to your personal needs and desires in each day of your life.
I will wish you well in your learning, or your work, and your leisure.
I will think of you at the close of each day and pray that God’s peace be with you.
If you have been especially kind or helpful to me then I will make my gratitude known to you.
If you are in trouble or difficulty of any kind, or simply tired and worn down,
I will do all and anything I can to lift your spirits.
I will ache for you in your sorrows and disasters and rejoice with you in your joys and triumphs.
I will love and care for you as I love and care for myself.
