Primary 6 Weekly News!

It’s been a busier week than usual in Primary 6! We spent our first two days at Low Port and everyone had a fantastic time! The children all tried their best and got stuck in to all the activities. They were all excellently behaved and the staff at Low Port were very impressed with everyone, especially their fantastic listening skills.

Yesterday we continued with our outdoor theme and took our lessons outside.  We completed some measuring tasks in our groups and work on converting between mm, cm, m and km. Today we had our first swimming lesson.  Everyone tried their best again and we have already seen improvement due to lots of hard work and focus.

Everyone had lots to say about our week! Here is a selection of our class comments and some of our Low Port photos (there are more on Facebook).

Ciara – This week we were at camp and we did canoeing.  It was fun! Deacon fell in and we could not stop laughing.  We all ended up walking into the water and Mr McCurdy dropped Amera in!

Isabel – We all loved Low Port and today we all went swimming.  Mr McCurdy assessed our swimming lesson and we had lots of fun in the pool.

Erwin – On Thursday we went outside for PE and played Rounders.  It was different from normal rounders, it was really hard but fun!

Rayn – I enjoyed the sailing at Low Port, it was very interesting anf fun.

Aliza – This week we went swimming and it was so fun.  We all got to have fun and get comfortable in the water at our own level.

Ben – We all had great fun at Low Port.  I think the canoeing was the best.

Emily – I have really enjoyed this week.  We have done a lot of sports at Low Port and swimming.  I really enjoyed canoeing and sailing.

Emma – Today we got our break during swimming.  I played with a swimming noodle, it was awesome!

Declan – I enjoyed Low Port because we got to go sailing and canoeing and we played a huge game of capture the flag beside the palace.

I’m sure everyone will be tired after such a sporty week! Have a nice relaxing weekend.

Outdoor Learning week in P5

Toni –  We enjoyed using the trundle wheel outside to measure the grass to the fence line.

Cole –  During our drama lesson outside we built an imaginary house.  It was great fun.

Paige and Rachel – Mrs Purdie shared with us in the Assembly how to be safe around stray dogs that do not have their owners.  We should remain calm and keep walking.

Rebecca – I enjoyed learning a new hymn – peace is flowing like a river with Mrs Smith on Friday.  I especially liked doing the actions.

Beth and Lorena –  In PE we used metre sticks to measure out 50 metres and then we ran this distance in groups trying to improve our time.

Joseph –  I was delighted to share with the class that I had been successful in getting to the next round of the Radio 2 500 words competition.

Brandon – I enjoyed coming back to school again to see all my friends again although it is tough to get up!

Vanessa –  I am excited about our new class topic –  the human body.   I am really interested in learning about the human body as I would like to have a job looking after people and keeping them well in the future.

Bea –  I enjoyed having Mrs Smith teaching us on Friday.

P4 News Round!

We have thoroughly enjoyed using our outdoor environment to enhance our learning this week. In maths, we have been learning all about different types of angles. We can recognise right, acute, obtuse, straight and even reflex angles now. We went out into the garden to find angles in the environment, took photos then edited the photos to show which angles were which before collating them in a ‘pic collage’!

We then went a walk to the woods to gather sticks which we made shapes and objects from. Our shapes or objects had to show different angles. We used markers to identify which type of angle was which.

When we were at the woods, we spotted a squirrel eating a nut up a tree. This caused great excitement!

In writing this week, we used the outdoor environment as the stimulus for our story setting. We had to use our senses to help us explore. Some of our stories were set in a mystical/ magical garden that was bright and colourful, whereas others were set in a spirit field that was dark and gloomy!

In art, we stuck with the Spring/ Outdoor theme and created a daffodil picture using warm and cool colours. We chose daffodils as we spotted lots of them when exploring.

We are continuing on our Faith journey and were learning all about The Passover in RE this week.

We have been introduced to our new topic, Endangered Animals and worked together with Miss Diamond to plan what we would like to cover and learn during this topic.

“I enjoyed learning about angles this week although it was quite hard!” – Aoife

“I liked making angle shapes using the sticks from the woods!” – Ambra

“I liked using the outdoor environment to help make a setting for my story!” – Ailie

“I liked drawing the daffodil in art!” – Brooke

We hope you have a great weekend,

P4 and Miss Diamond :)!

Lent Challenge -Wednesday 5th

Today’s challenge: If you can, attend the Reconciliation Service taking place on Wednesday 5 April at 7.00pm in St Andrew’s Church. (See you there!)

“This is a great opportunity for us to come together during Lent to acknowledge our sinfulness and celebrate God’s mercy in our lives, both individually and as a community. Fr Tony will lead a short service of Scripture reading, reflection and music. The service will end with individual confessions with one of the five priests available, after which you will be free to leave. A brief Examination of Conscience is offered on the insert in this week’s newsletter to assist in preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.”

This you tube clip is a fantastic way to remind children and adults alike about how to go to Confession:

Nursery News

Its hard to believe this is the last blog entry for this term! Another busy week in Nursery has ended.

On Monday we visited the library and Mrs Campbell the librarian read us a story called ” My granny is a pirate ” This fitted in really well with us having Grandparents Day on Thursday. She also taught us a song called 5 little speckled frogs. We sang it really well and it helped us with our numeracy skills by counting to 5.

We were all very busy this week too making Easter cakes, baskets and pictures to give as presents to our special people who were coming on Thursday.

Although we had loved  playing in our shop we decided it was time to put out some different resources for our learning adventures. The children voted for some babies for the house corner and some dressing up clothes with a mirror for them to have a look at their reflection. We were all super excited to see how big our caterpillars have become and we noticed that they are preparing to go into their cocoons. As we were going on holiday for two weeks we were all worried that there would be no one at Nursery to look after them. Mrs MacDonald kindly offered to take them home and she has promised to take photographs and videos of them as they grow. You never know she may bring them back as butterflies!

We were all so excited on Thursday to welcome our grandparents and special people to our nursery. The nursery team were very proud of all our fantastic children as they confidently showed all their families round inside and outside the nursery and joined in with all their learning experiences. They then demonstrated their brilliant singing skills when they sang for all the visitors in the hall. The nursery team would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to this event it was fantastic to see so many and we hope you enjoyed your time with us. Thank you also for your generous contributions which will go into our nursery funds. Here are some pictures of the day there are lots more to see on our nursery parents Facebook page.

At our Achievement assembly today Dylan received the certificate for a super first term at nursery. Well done Dylan.

We finished our week though on a sad note as we said goodbye to one of our nursery teachers Mrs Craig who is leaving to have her second baby. We will all really miss her as she has been a fantastic teacher to all the children and a very special colleague and friend to all the nursery team. On behalf of the whole nursery team I would like to thank her for her commitment, enthusiasm and friendship. We wish her every happiness in the future.

As we are planning a walk in the woods the first week back could you please return your EE2 form on our return after the holidays. Thank you.

The nursery team would like to wish you all a Happy Easter and a lovely holiday and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 18th April.

Eggcellent Blog by Primary 2!

The children helped create the name of the blog.

This week for numeracy we have been completing fact families.
Julia- “There are 2 adding and 2 take-away sums in a fact family”.

Marcus- “You have 3 numbers and you have to use the numbers in different ways to make the 2 adding and the 2 take-away sums. The two addition sums always make the same number but the 2 take-away sums make a different number.”

Leo “For example if you have the numbers 3, 2, and 5 then you could do
3 + 2 = 5
2 + 3 = 5
5 – 3 = 2
5 – 2 = 3”

We have remembered that when you add the numbers get bigger and when you take –away you start with the biggest number.

We like using the subitizing game.
Wojciech “You have to look at the object and say how many there are without counting them.”

Here is a link so that we can show you how to do it at home. The more we practise the quicker we will become.

We have been working hard on our imaginative writing this week; our stories were all about meeting our favourite fairy tale character. We had to try hard to write independently and to include capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, connectives and adjectives. Filip was our star writer this week; he had super ideas and tried to include all aspects of the success criteria, well done Filip!
This week we have been learning all about different houses and homes. We have looked at the different types of houses that we might see in our local area and then we looked at the different types of houses in Fairy land. For art we worked in groups using Mod-Rock to build our own Fairy tale Houses. We aren’t quite finished them yet and will share a completed photo after the holidays but here we are in action.

In RE we have been leaning all about the Easter story, we sequenced pictures of the story and then we used puppets to role play a few different parts of the story.

At Ninian’s natter on Thursday we reflected and worked on our aims with Miss Boyes, completed a mind-map of what we have learned this term, self-assessed and up-leveled our work and had learning conversations.

Julia received the achievement award on today for super effort and improvement in Literacy. Well done Julia!

Miss Boyes loved seeing all of our different Fairy tale characters and homes that we completed for homework. If you have not brought your model in yet then we would love to see it after the holidays as we will be completing class talks to discuss why we chose our character and how we made it.

We hope you have a lovely Easter Break from Miss Boyes and Primary 2!

Hoorah,hoorah, it’s the holidays!

As the title suggests there has been a lot of excitement this week as the holidays approached. We have still managed to squeeze in lots of learning before the holidays begin….

It’s been revision week in literacy and numeracy to allow us time to assess our learning and decide on next steps for our final term. We have enjoyed choosing games and activities which have helped us learn, eg. Bug subtraction, The Bus Stop, digraph board games and lots more.

We liked using this song to help us learn about digraphs, click on the link to sing along with ua

In RE we have spent time learning about a very special story, The Easter Story. We have all been trying really hard to keep our Lenten promises and are looking forward to celebrating Easter with our families. We made some super ‘He is risen’ plates to show our understanding of the Easter Story.

Our structured play also had an Easter theme and we enjoyed Easter egg finger painting, making cone Spring animals, Easter themed maths playdough activities, Easter writing and Easter interactive games. On Friday we also made our own Easter bonnets.

We kept ourselves very busy during Ninian’s Natter this week – we had three stations – the kickstart station, reviewing our goals and GIRFEC wheel station and learning through technology station. Have a look in our online journals to see how we got on with reviewing our goals.

Today we celebrated achievements but also said goodbye to 2 members of our St Ninian’s family – Mrs Craig and Mrs Black. We will all miss you and wish you luck and happiness for the future!

Have a lovely holiday everyone, it has been a great term, I look forward to seeing you all on the 18th April!!!
