Presenting and performing in P1R

The highlight for our class this week was our class assembly today. Over the last few weeks we have been writing our script, practising our lines, practising our songs and making a headpiece to wear linked to our speaking parts. Every child wanted to have a speaking part which shows how confident they have all become. Ephraim also took a leading role in our finale song and had to do a solo piece, we were all really proud of him. Thank you to all the grown ups who helped the children prepare for this assembly at school and at home, we couldn’t have done it without you. The biggest thank you goes to the children – they were amazing!!

If you were unable to attend I have attached the link to the SWAY presentation on my Twitter page @mrsroy16.

We have also posted some photographs for you to have a look at.

Awesome P3!

Another very busy week for Primary 3!

SHELTER BUILDING – OUTDOOR LEARNING & TEAMWORK

The whole class showed their resilience and ability to cope well with change on Tuesday when our Shelter Building Activity was postponed at the very last minute. This was unavoidable due to the weather but we are delighted to announce that it will now be taking place on Tuesday 20 June in the afternoon (P1-P3 Sports Day in the morning)…..so watch this space!

RE/HWB

Primary 3 also discussed the importance of having enough sleep, rest and exercise each day. They were very good at explaining how they feel when they are tired and how this can impact on how well they concentrate in school.

In Maths, we were consolidating our understanding of Measure as well as looking at timetables and durations of time then combining this with some interpretation of diagrams. The boys and girls enjoyed using Mr McCurdy’s Health Week timetable to do this where they had to interpret the information to find out which day P3 were doing a particular activity, where the activity was being held, the time the activity started/finished then working out how long it lasted.

GLOBAL GOALS – Clean Water and Sanitation

Primary 3 have been really thinking hard this week about the availability of clean water in school (or at home) and clean toilets which flush – things we all take for granted. They saw images of poor toilets in some African countries for schoolchildren and had to imagine what they would do if they didn’t have access to either taps or toilets – not pleasant but the children were really engrossed and engaged in considering these situations. In writing they had to suggest reasons as to what might happen if there were not taps or toilets in St Ninian’s – ask your child to explain what they wrote about!

READING – Primary 3 have continued to develop their independence at making sense of what they read  by accessing non-fiction texts  and finding information from the texts to answer questions.

BIG TALK homework next week

Would you rather be the Three Little Pigs or the Wolf? Give your reasons!

Have a lovely weekend from Mrs Scott and Primary 3!

Nursery News!

We have had a busy week at St Ninian’s nursery this week.

In transition the boys and girls have had their ‘moving up mornings’ and enjoyed getting to know their new teachers – Miss Meechan and Miss Boyes. They were missed in the nursery in the AM group where we were depleted in numbers, in the PM group we were very impressed with how well they joined in after a busy morning at school! Next week in transition we will have our ‘lunch hall experience’ in groups.

Red Group – Monday

Blue Group – Tuesday

Green Group – Thursday

Children and parents should report to the school office at 11.45am. The children will go to the dinner hall and the parents will get the opportunity to chat to Miss Boyes and Miss Meechan in the hub. The kitchen staff have all the chosen options for lunches but will also provide the children with a wee ‘taster’ of the other trays so they can see how a school dinner is served and the kinds of food it has 🙂

We are fast approaching the end of term and as such life in the school and nursery is very busy!

This week in addition to the transition lunches we also have NURSERY SPORTS DAY! Please send your child in a tshirt/jumper the same colour as their group on sports day 🙂 it will be weather dependent but we are hopeful for some sun to come and shine through for us! Parents and families are invited to come and watch (and cheer us on!) – 10 – 11am for morning group and 2 – 3pm for afternoon group. Get running around this weekend so you have built up your fitness!

We have been chatting lots about summer this week and have changed our seasons display from Spring to Summer. There have been some lovely summer pictures drawn and great discussions had. The AM floorbook has some ideas from the boys and girls about summer which we will use to plan learning over the next week 🙂

School has been a big talking point this week and the addition of school uniform to the dress up area has been very popular! The ties have been like gold dust – we are thinking that the boys and girls might like to make some of their own next week so that everyone can have one 🙂

We had a good turn out at our parents coffee moring – all feedback is recorded in the talking books. We are looking to enhance our outdoor learning provision next session and would value very much your views on this 🙂 there was some great discussion between staff and parents on Wednesday which will help us in our planning of these developments for next session!

Have a lovely weekend everyone – see you next week!

P4 Weekly Update

This week has been an awesome week! A HUGE hit was our homework task where we had to revise our measuring skills by baking/making cakes weighing out all the ingredients. The best bit was having the chance to taste what each other had made! DELICIOUS!

In writing, we listened to a piece of music as our stimulus and had to write a personal recount about our Learning Journey during P4! Some of our highs were:

‘I enjoyed our endangered animals topic!’ – Hannah

‘I liked learning about Global Goals.’ – Ailie

‘I loved the 40th Anniversary show!’ – Joshua

‘I loved learning about time and measure in maths.’ – Haseeb

‘I enjoyed learning about The Titanic.’ – Evie

In maths this week we have been learning all about measure. We have been focussing on measuring length and weight. We had lots of fun using classroom objects to measure and used rulers, metre sticks and scales. We had to make predictions and estimate the weights and lengths before we actually measured them too! This was so much fun! We have also been converting measurements. Did you know 500g + 500g = 1000g which is the same as 1kg?

In topic work this week we have been sharing our presentations with one another about an endangered animal of our choice. We have had PowerPoint presentations, sway presentations, sculptures, poster, pictures, fact books and cakes to help inform our learning. Lots of the presentations were followed with a quiz so we could test each other on what we have learned. During our smart start we got to use the pic collage app to create collages of soe of our favourite endangered animals.

A huge well done to the new house captains and vice captains! We can’t wait to see what you have in store for us. Good Luck from P4!

We would like to thank our parents/ grandparents for helping with our baking homework this week and making these activities possible.

Have a great weekend, P4 and Miss Diamond!

P2/3 Weekly Update

It has been another fantastic, busy week in Primary 2/3.

The children would like to share some of their highlights:

Angel and James – I liked looking at our Local Area.  We thought about how land is used in our local area and made maps.  We used Google Maps to help us.

Alishba and Aaron  – I liked  Big Writing because we wrote about how milk comes from cows.  We made posters in groups too.

Andrew and Jakub – I liked PE because we played a game with the parachute.  It was really fun!  We played another game called Sharks and Lifeguards too.  When you’re a shark you have to pull someone under the parachute and they become a shark.  Then the lifeguard has to save you.

Harry and Matthew – I liked playing dodgeball in PE.

Zuzanna – I liked creating a character in literacy. I named my character Teresa.

Maeve – I liked making a character description.  I called mine Yana.

Brooke – I liked the assembly when we found out the results of the elections for house captains.

Chloe – I liked the P1R assembly because it had Spanish songs.

Levente, Annayah and Pawel – I liked learning about Global Goal #6.  We learnt about a school in Kenya where they didn’t have clean water and we listened to a song about clean water too.

Oma and Calvin  – I liked doing Sumdog because I got more coins and a pet and I completed in the West Lothian contest.

Carly – I liked Spanish because we were learning high numbers up to 30!!

from P2/3, Mrs Howley and Mrs Keegan.

Health Week

What a fantastic week we’ve all had. This week the focus has been on health and wellbeing and all activities linked to this. Our timetable has been jam packed and every day has been full of fun.

Check out our class story on dojo for photographs of some of the events and follow us on Twitter for more photographs and video links, @mrsroy16.

Monday

We started the week with the daily mile and invited our nursery friends along to join us. We all chose a partner and showed them the route. We then went straight to gymnastics which was good fun, we even got to make a human pyramid at the end with the full class taking part. Amber, Klaudia and Mark were very flexible and showed us some great cartwheels. After break we went straight to cross country with Mr McCurdy and had a practise at pacing ourselves for the fun run on Friday. Mrs Roy was exhausted and couldn’t keep up with some of us! In class we learned about the different parts of the body and the special jobs they all do, we watched a video about this and joined in with a fun song. After lunch it was time for fit and flex, this was a circuit with high intensity activities. Nathan couldn’t stop laughing at Mrs Roy when she tried to pull the stretchy band!

Tuesday

Judo was very popular in the class with many voting for this as their favourite activity. James and Brooke had to help demonstrate some of the moves which we all found really funny. Mrs Stewart did really well too when she partnered up with children! We went over to Dedridge PS for micro fitness, a huge inflatable with lots of challenges. Everyone managed to have lots of turns, it was really exhausting. In dance we learned a short hip-hop routine, Rafay and Ephraim had some impressive moves! The day ended with a nature walk, we spotted lots of signs of plant life and animals, we even met the new cygnets at the pond! In class we used the UNICEF launch pad to learn more about the rights of the child, we focused on article 5.

Wednesday

Before school started we had our parent and child bootcamp, well done to those who made it along.

It was a very relaxing start to the day with a yoga session, Mrs Roy loved how quiet and peaceful we all were!!! Football followed this and we got the chance to work on our dribbling skills and technique. In the afternoon we learned about the Eatwell plate and discussed different food types. We did a carousel which included making our own healthy plates and food technology. At the food technology station we made fruit kebabs, the ingredients we could choose from were : bananas, melon, pineapple, grapes and strawberries. It was great to so many children trying new flavours.

Thursday

Cheerleading was exciting as we learned a routine and used the Pom poms. We quickly picked up the routine to music and then got a chance to make up our own parts of the routine to two counts of 8, great teamwork everyone! The nursery joined us to learn about measure and we worked in teams to measure how tall we all were creating our own height charts. Boot camp was next, we got the chance to get outside and dirty taking part in different challenges-tug of war, follow the leader, the cone squatting game, walk the tight rope, etc. In the afternoon we had cricket where we got the chance to practise our throwing and batting skills. Isla was very good at this! We then finished off the day with a turn on the trim trail.

Friday

The day of the fun run arrived and we all went outside to do our warm ups to music, the whole school were there! Some families came along to support us, thank you. Well done to Ephraim who ran very quickly and finished first for our class.

Mrs Purdie then had a reward for 2 children in our class, Dexter and Isla, they were awarded the Headteacher Award, the theme this week was respect. They enjoyed a healthy smoothie as their reward.

Thank you

A huge thank you to Mr McCurdy for organising such a successful week and thanks to the children for participating so enthusiastically! Mrs Roy is away for a long soak in the bath to ease her aching muscles after all those activities!
