Nursery News

How the weeks are flying by in Nursery! Our transition programme concluded this week with the children getting the opportunity to try school lunches in the dinner hall. They were all amazing and they seemed to enjoy eating the lunches! We hope that you have found our transition programme helpful and it has prepared the children for their new exciting move into Primary 1.

On Wednesday we had our Sports  day and we were lucky with the weather. The children were all excellent and learned how to participate in a sports day, be part of a team and encourage their fellow team members to do their best. Thank you to all the adults who came along to support the children. Well done to everyone who joined in with the races.

Also in our learning adventures this week the children got the opportunity to use real tools ( under close supervision! ) They all showed great maturity and used their curiosity and imaginative skills to measure , hammer and build exciting models.

Next week we will be making and discussing what we would like at our Grufdalo tea party. This idea came from the children and is an exciting way to round off all our learning within this topic.

In PEEP this week with Mrs Beattie Group 1 are playing memory games to  help with their concentration skills and Group 2 are joining in with new parachute games to improve their listening skills.

Our PM children are sharing their favourite learning experiences this week.

Rojin” The bean bag race was the best.”

Harry” I liked Sports day.”

Mark” What was good was that I got a medal and a lolly.”

Luke” The best bit was running.”

Elena” running”

Scott” Scott goes fast!”

Just a wee reminder that graduation for our  preschool children will take place on Thursday 29th June in the school hall at 10am and 3.15pm. All families of our preschool children are invited along to these. Our anti pre children will remain in the nursery during the graduations where they will get a little treat.

Have a lovely weekend.

The Nursery team.

P7/6

Our technical issue from last week has been resolved!

Here are the photographs from our class trip to the WW2 Linburn war museum.

We learned so much as well as consolidating our learning from this topic.  The alphabet quiz was great…although Mrs Currie had to be disqualified for cheating (I started writing answers in before he had said go…too eager and competitive!).  Freya and Sophia were the overall winners, well done girls! We were able to handle real equipment as well as have a go a feeling how heavy and hard it was to use some of the weaponry from that time!  Can you name the three people in the gas masks?

In school this week we had a visit from the Rights Respecting School Assessors.  Tristan and Aurora represented our class at the meeting and they did a great job.  Well done to the whole school for their efforts and we just cross our fingers that we are officially awarded the level 2 in August.

In maths and numeracy we have been revising and consolidating our knowledge of the topics we have covered.  It has been amazing to see how much we have learned and this gave some of us the valuable opportunity to get additional teaching and practise in areas that we are not fully confident in.  This will continue for the next two weeks.

In RE we have been learning about The Holy Trinty.  As an additional activity, think of three ways to describe the roles you have in life, Mrs Currie is …a sister, a mother and a teacher.  You can post your three descriptions here for an extra dojo!

Have a great weekend.

Primary 6 Weekly News

Another busy week in primary 6!

Here are our highlights.

We have been working more on our class novel Pig Heart Boy. This week we thought about questions we could ask the main characters at a press conference. We then held our own press conference where we had to take on the role of one of the main characters. Some of the role play skills were excellent!!

We also used Pig Heart Boy in our writing this week to write a diary entry as one of the characters.

We had a visit from the Rights Respecting Schools team on Tuesday and it went very well! All pupils answered all questions excellently, highlighting how much effort they have all put into their learning this year. It was great to see how knowledgeable you all are – well done!!

For PE this week we completed the 200m with Mr McCurdy and joined up with Primary 5 to play some outdoor games. We competed in our houses to win points! It was an excellent afternoon with great teamwork – well done again!!

Hope you all have a great weekend – we have a busy week next week so get lots of rest!

P2 weekly blog!

Ahmad- We have been playing the fractions pizza game again this week. We had to read the challenge cards and then cover the pizza with ¼ or ½ of which ever topping it asked for.

We have been learning about the link between halves and quarters.

Angelina- If there is 12 cubes and you find half of the 12 cubes then you will get 6 then you need to half the 6 which gives you 3 and that would be 1 quarter of the 12 cubes.

Leo- We have been finding 1 quarter of a shape. We need to be careful because not all shapes with 4 parts are cut into quarters because they aren’t the same size.

Wojciech- I really liked our writing lesson this week because we had to describe a creature/animal which our special cloud made.”

This video clip was a great stimulus for writing and we had a fantastic discussion about the images from the clip before we started which helped us to understand the story.

Julia- “I thought the video was really funny because 1 of the clouds was different from all of the other clouds. This cloud was grey and I think it was grey because it felt sad about giving the stork only dangerous animals.”

Here is the clip so that you can watch this at home.

This week we had a special visit from the fire service who came to talk to us about their job and how to stay safe if there is a fire.

Angelina- “They showed us their special uniform which keeps them safe if they have to enter a burning building.”

Alice- “They told us that the red hose is used for big fires and the black hose is used for smaller fires.”

Poppy- “We all got a turn of sitting in the fire truck and I got to sit in the front seat.”

Lennon- “We all got to use the black hose, it was really powerful and we had to try to knock down a cone. The fire fighter told us we used up all the water in the black hose.”

We loved our visit from the fire fighters because they taught us so much and we would love to have another visit from them because it was fun to go into the truck and use the hose.

We discussed Global Goal 7 this week which was Affordable and Clean Energy. We watched a video which taught us that some children in other countries have no electricity for cooking or lights.

After watching the video we thought about what we use energy for and categorised this into heating, cooking and leisure. It is important to save energy by turning things off if we are not using them.

The Rights Respecting School visitors came to see us this week to talk to the children in our school about their rights and responsibilities. Marcus went to discuss what we have been learning about our rights and responsibilities in class.

Have a lovely weekend from Miss Boyes and Primary 2!

P4 Weekly News

This week has been fantastic! We took control of our own blog post this morning! Let us know what you think!

In art we have been completing our pointillism clown pictures and have been creating art work in the style of the artist Piet Mondrian.

In maths we have been learning how to measure the area of shapes and looked at different instruments to measure length.  We were using centimetres squared to record the area of shapes. We worked with a partner and measured each other’s body parts including head, neck, waist, hips etc. using a measuring tape.

In topic we have been learning about food chains as part of our endangered animals’ topic. We have also been learning about producers and consumers a producer is a living thing that gets its energy from the sun. A consumer is something that feeds from plants or living things to get its energy. We made PowerPoints to share our learning about food chains.

We had the rights respecting schools inspectors in this week to see if we had achieved level 2. We hope to have an answer on this achievement soon and can’t wait to share the result with you.

In PE, we have been learning the rules of Russian Long Ball and have had our 200m race heats for sports day. We had a focus on our health and fitness and joined I with The Body Coach, Joe Wicks, and his school HIIT session.

Jan made a contribution to the P1 bake sale this week. They were a huge hit within our class. Fidget Spinner cookies!!

We have been preparing for our Thanksgiving mass which will be held on Sunday and are really looking forward to it.

Have a great weekend :),

P2 weekly news

We have begun learning about fractions this week.

Angelina- “We know that if a shape is in quarters that it is in 4 parts.”

Filip- “If the shape is cut into quarters each quarter has to be the same size.”

Leo- “I know that 2 quarters is the same as 1 half”.

Kyle- “If a shape has 2 parts they can only be a half of the shape if the parts are the same size.”

This week we have been ticking the shapes with halves and shading in 1 half. We will continue learning about fractions next week.

In reading this week we read a piece of text about what Doctors do and then we had to answer the questions to show our understanding of what we read. We had to write our answers in sentences so that it made sense.

In writing this week we wrote a re-count of our favourite parts of health week. Our success criteria included using conjunctions to help our writing flow. We all feel much more confident about using conjunctions in our writing.

In drama this week we had to use different expressions for different roles. We took on the roles of different people who would help us in the community. Our peers had to guess the role and give us feedback on our use of expressions and our actions. We also discussed global goal 5 which is Gender Equality, we reflected on the job roles and whether they were for males, females or both.

At first most of us thought a fire officer was a boys job and a nurse was a girls job.

However Miss Boyes has explained that the job roles for People Who Help Us in the community can be for males and females and that everyone should be given equal opportunities to apply for jobs no matter what their Gender is.

In art with Mrs Young we have been making beautiful flowers.

Ana- “To do this you need to have four hand prints with a mosaic pattern and scissors to cut the hands shapes out.”

Marcus- “You have to colour In the mosaic pattern and then you join the hands together to make a flower.”

Miss Boyes has put our flowers up in the classroom and they make a lovely display.

Have a lovely weekend from Miss Boyes and Primary 2!
