P1B news update!

This week we have been learning lots of new sounds.

We have learned the sh sound.

Julian- The  sh sound is green.

Lily- It is green because we don’t use the tip of our, or the back of our mouth.

We use the flat centre of the tongue to make this sound.

We have been learning to blend the sh sound in words with other familiar sounds.

Lucy- Ship has the ‘sh’ sound at the start.

Shakti- Shark has the ‘sh’ sound at the start.

Joshua- Push has the ‘sh’ sound at the end of the word.

We were singing the sh song to practise.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJYK83Oqt8U

We sorted sh and ch pictures.

Joanna- We learned also about the soft th sound this week.

Isla- This sound is light blue, it is a quiet sound.

This sound is in words like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNZwTRQSfkY

Khyla- Our thin pens wrote us a letter to say that they had quit!”

Szymon- They quit because they were sad that their friends had dried up. This happens when we do not put lids on the pens.

Adam—They also do not like it when we make them work so hard that they put a hole in the paper.

Sophie- We wrote the pens a letter to come back to us.

Courtney- I wanted the purple pen to come back because it is my favourite.

Lucy- I wanted the pink pen to come back so that I could draw pink love hearts.

Lily- I wanted the red pen to come back because I like colouring in red butterflies.

We really enjoyed our word boost story this week, The Smart Giant in Town by Julia Donaldson.

I like the lego subtraction game. You start with 20 cubes and roll the dice, you move your counter and it lands on a space and tells you how many cubes to takes away.

Szymon- I liked the subtraction jigsaw. One side of the jigsaw had the subtraction sentence and the other side had the answer. We had to match all of them up.

We learned all about Fairtrade products this week and why they are important.

Liam- People who grow food in other countries do not always get paid enough.

Joshua- This means they do not have enough money for their own food and clothes.

Adam- The Fairtrade products make sure that people who grow the food and help make it get paid fairly and get paid enough for the work that they do.

Connor- We completed an activity where we had to sort the Fairtrade food and the non-Fairtrade food. We had to look for the Fairtrade logo.

Miss Boyes worked with us to make a bar graph of our favourite Fairtrade product. We had to choose from, chocolate buttons, orange juice, icecream and the bananas.

Khyla- The chocolate buttons were the most popular.

The Ben and Jerry’s Ice cream was the least popular but Miss Boyes favourite.

NURSERY NEWS

This week gave the children opportunities to discover different celebrations of the world. This week it was Chinese new Year. We watched a movie on the smart board that gave us lots of information about it and let us see what they do in Celebration. This gave us lots of ideas to get creative in our nursery and to extend our learning further. On a map in an Atlas we discovered it was only 44 steps to China!.

We could see that Chinese writing was straight lines, Regan copied this onto paper using straws.

The children made a Dragon for Chinese New Year, the AM children made one large Dragon and the PM children made individual Dragons. The AM Dragon was paraded around  to ward of bad luck and bring good luck.

Tuesday was also Safer Internet Day and we had a discussion with the children about being safe in our choices when we are online.

Wednesday  brought back our Welly Wednesday Adventures!!!! the children had great fun trying to scale the bendy tree and remembered how to keep themselves safe on the walk. We stopped to talk about the ice that had formed on the pond and how to keep ourselves safe beside the water. In the afternoon the rain didn’t put us off our walk, but it did give us the most colourful rainbow for us to admire and see it’s reflection in the water.

Thursday gave us P.E with Mr McCurdy on the large apparatus as we strengthened our core strength and balance skills.

The week was finished off with a taste of the show the p.3-5 children are performing next week as we listened to them singing on the stage.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!!!! from the Nursery Team

FRIDAY  NO PEEP TODAY

THIS IS OUR February holiday weekend we will see you all back on Wednesday 20th of February.

Primary 5D Weekly News!

This week we have been very busy.

We have been rehearsing our show a blast from the past! We had a dress rehearsal in front of the whole school.

In maths we have been doing 24 and 12 hour clock times.

“When we were doing time it was very very VERY fun”- Aaron

“It was difficult but fun!” – Emily

“I like playing shut the box with Mrs Currie in maths.” – Sophie R

In number talks, we enjoyed sharing strategies about how we solved subtraction calculations.

In writing, we used a picture as a stimulus and had to use our imaginations to put together a story.

“I liked writing about it because I love the Ocean!” – Andrew

“I liked to write about the picture because I got to use my imagination!” – Kasia

We had our first mindfulness workshop with Miss Townley. We had to relax and lie down and think about only positive things. This helped us get rid of worries, relax and more focussed. We could feel the changes in our own bodies.

In PE, we have been using the apparatus in gymnastics. We had a focus on body tension this week to help strengthen our muscles.

We hope you have a great weekend, P5D and Miss Diamond

P2 Weekly Update

We have finished our week with a real treat, we watched the dress rehearsal of the P3-5 school show…IT WAS AMAZING!

This week in class we have also been AMAZING learners.

As we had snow last week we wrote about snowflakes this week in our literacy learning, we created our own poems.  To write our poems we learned that we needed to start each new line with a capital letter and how to use a comma at the end of a line.  We also explored as many adjectives as we could to describe snowflakes and we used these throughout our poems.  The results were fabulous!  We wrote our first two stanzas this week and next week we are going to write the next two stanzas, wouldn’t it be great if we could have a little snow to help inspire us…but not too much !

In our numeracy learning we continued to share equally.  However this week sometimes we had one or two left over at the end that we couldn’t share between our groups because it would make our groups unequal!?  We learned that these left over amounts were called remainders.  Try out these calculations and see if there are any remainders,

15 shared equally between 2 groups

19 shared equally between 3 groups

Our historical person that we learned about this week was St John.  We found out that he was alive at the same time as Jesus and that he was one of his Jesus’ Apostles.  Our local hospital is called St John’s Hospital.

Next week we are starting our new Science topic and we will be starting with The Sun as our focus.  Have a think about what you would like to learn about the sun and post your idea as a reply.  I will then add your idea to our Pupil Voice planning sheet in class.

Everyone in class have finished setting themselves learning goals for this term and they have all been uploaded to each child’s OneNote profile.  Log in to have a look at your child’s goal and have a chat with them to help them achieve it.

Have a lovely weekend.
