Well what a day, where do we begin? Another good breakfast to set us up for the day ahead…we certainly needed it today.
Canoeing, knight quest, nightline and Ford phototrail were the activities today. We were all excited about going canoeing, and the weather was on our side!
The first group had a great time and managed to paddle through the rapids, even though Max dropped his paddle which gave us all a giggle! The second group started off so well but Mrs Gardner, Aaron, Tiree , Alice and Taylor S felt the need to test the temperature of the water and their boats capsized, a shock at first but we’ve all managed to share a good giggle about it tonight.
It’s D.I.S.C.O time tonight and we’re having a fab time!
We can’t believe it’s the last night we’re so sad to head home tomorrow!
Well what a day we’ve had, we’ve laughed, cried and even competed in our very own castle Olympics!
We started off with a very wet morning but we were determined to keep our spirits up and sang our hearts out as we took part in team games, Jacob’s ladder and crate stack!
This afternoon the sun came out for us as we took part in potions class, making potions to change things about the teachers, we then went off to the field and participated in high all aboard and Postman’s walk.
After a brilliant dinner of roast chicken and chocolate eclairs we competed in castle Olympics, it was so much fun!!
I am so proud of all the children this week as they have shown how confident and responsible they have become.
There have been various opportunities for the P1 children to support the pre-schoolers this week as part of our ongoing transition work. Every day we went outside in the morning and afternoon for some playtime, the P1 children were fantastic at assisting the younger children by opening their snacks, playing with them, showing them around, etc. We also had some science lessons and again the P1’s had to work with a nursery child to support them in the carousel activities. They went outside for a mini-beast hunt with Mrs Caskie and then worked with myself to do some senses experiments. I can’t believe that almost a year has passed and we are now preparing our current P1’s for their transition to P2. More details to follow in the coming weeks about these preparations.
In class we continued to learn about numbers within 20, with the focus on number names which can be really tricky. The children played some matching games, used flashcards, did some written work and used the smartboard games. All were very successful in these activities.
Mr Hunter took the children for a fun outdoor lesson and the children worked in teams showing their creativity. Have a look at their efforts!
We ended the week with our Achievements Assembly and P1R had the honour of presenting their class assembly to the whole school. I was so proud of each and every one of them as they all stood confidently in front of a large audience. They said their lines clearly and sang their hearts out.
This was the song the children chose to end their assembly with, why don’t you ask them to sing along at home with the link below.
Well done to everyone who have completed their presentation so far, I have been blown away with the standard! There is still a group of 12 to present so this will take place on Monday afternoon thank you for your patience. Here are some of the topics covered so far,
Coca Cola – Deacon, Amera, Ben, Alistair
Nestle – Erin O,
Yorkshire Tea – Isabel
Starburst – Jennifer
Walkers – Rugare, Declan
Salmon – Aiden
Lees – James
Cadbury – Erin R, Mia St, Emily
Lyo – Krzysztof
Kit Kat – Ciara
Greggs – Kalvin
Lucazade – Nicholas
Weetabix – Rayn
Kellogs – Erwin
Pringles – Aliza
Irn Bru – Emma
As you can see there has been a huge amount covered and the children are all proving that they have acted on their feedback given after their last presentation. Most children are now showing that they are more aware of their audience by making good eye contact and by using an appropriate level of voice.
For our writing this week we have written a set of instructions about how to make Mac and Cheese in a Microwave. Everyone got the chance to have some hands on experience of making this in class as well as watching a demonstration from Mrs (Deila Smith) Currie. To ensure our instructions were of the highest possible standard we watched an M+S advert to learn about using adjectives to enhance our descriptions of food. The results were not just good instructions, they were finger-licking amazingly well written instructions! 😉
If you fancy trying out the recipe at home here is a youtube tutorial on how to make it, enjoy!
In maths we have been looking at the topic of money and in particular how to understand a till receipt. We will continue this next week looking to solve maths problems using information gained from a receipt.
The boys and girls have had a good week in Primary 1D! We have been very busy preparing for sports day and had our 200m race competition. Everyone tried their very best and we were all exhausted by the end of Thursday’s PE lesson!
In maths we have been learning all about number names to 20! Some of these were very tricky to read but we know that we can use the classroom environment, the numblerline, to help us! We played bingo and pairs to help us learn!
We have been helping the nursery boys and girls prepare for coming to Primary 1! We were so well behaved and proved that we are definitely ready to move on to Primary 2! We were scientists in the classrroom and nature detectives in the school garden!
Have a loveley weekend from Miss Diamond and P1D!
I hope the boys and girls enjoy Chloe’s birthday party this afternoon, they are all SUPER excited!
Hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. As it is a short week homework will be a different format.
I am asking everyone to re-read one of their chapters in their class book or read onto the next chapter (don’t read any further than one extra chapter so the group can stay together).
Tomorrow in class there will be a Summary sheet for you take home as your homework.
Due to the fact you are not being issued this piece until a Wednesday it will not be due in until Tuesday, 31st May. Feel free to hand it in earlier than this if you would like to.
If you would like extra practise on Maths concepts try out this web page which has links to a wide variety of games, you could blog a comment as to which game you chose and if you thought it helped you.

A huge big thank you to Mr McCurdy for organising the week, all the activities were great fun!
Enjoy the long weekend, I’m away to have a long sleep!!!!! See you on Tuesday.
Wow what an even busier week than usual in Nursery. We have been taking part in lots of activities during Health week. These included football, yoga, the Daily Mile, playground games with the buddies and dance clips on the Smartboard. We have been discussing what we need to do and eat to stay healthy and building on teamwork and working together.
The children in both sessions also visited the local library and enjoyed listening to a story about a baby kangaroo called, ” No room for Roo,” which was then followed by a talk about Australia using animal puppets. The children all enjoyed this fantastic opportunity to visit the library and we have planned three more visits which take place on Mondays starting with Monday 30th May.
Next week our transition programme continues with the children who are starting school in August joining the Primary 1 pupils for 10 minutes to experience playtime in the playground. This will involve both sessions. This will be outwith the normal playtime hours so it’s not too busy for them for their initial experience. We would appreciate it if the children could bring a small snack with them which they can eat during the playtime. The nursery children will also be joining the Primary 1 children for a shared learning experience which will be Science based. There will be a lesson in the classroom and one in the Outdoor area. We are sure they will all enjoy this collaborative learning. The nursery children will also be asked to choose their lunch for the following week as they will be able to have the experience of joining the school at lunchtime in the dinner hall. More details of this will be given out next week.
Also next week we are planning a Polish breakfast on Wednesday 25th May and Nathan and Leons’dad has very kindly offered to come in and help us with this. All AM children are welcome to come to this when Nursery opens at 805am.
Just a wee reminder that Nursery is on holiday on Monday. We look forward to seeing all the children back on Tuesday. If you haven’t received a time for our Parental consultations on Wednesday and Thursday and would like one please contact the school office and they will be happy to give you a time slot.
We hope the children have all enjoyed Health week and we are sure they would be very tired. The Nursery Team certainly were! Please check out our Nursery Parents Facebook page for more photos of Health Week.
As we have not had our homework diaries home this week some children have asked if I could blog the criteria for our presentation homework due on Tuesday 24th. Please see below.
