Friday 27.03.2020

Good Morning Primary 5. I hope you are having a good week and are staying safe at home. Here are Friday’s lessons.

Please do what you can boys and girls. There is no expectation to complete all tasks or to ‘hand them in’ on Microsoft Teams.  Work can be completed in jotters, on paper or class notebook so don’t worry if you are unable to print the sheets.

Mathematics

Our second lesson of the day is maths / numeracy

Big Maths – ‘Beat That’

Type your answers into the boxes on the word document. Try and time yourself, if you can, to see how quickly you can answer the questions! If you would prefer you can use your jotter / paper and ask an adult at home to check your answers.

You can also access your Friday ‘Beat That’ below.

Health and Wellbeing

Our third lesson of the day is health and wellbeing.

The Leader in Me – The 7 Habits

At school we would normally have an assembly before break time on a Friday. If you have one of the ‘Leader In Me’ workbooks provided please complete a task relating to one of the habits we have already covered. If you were not able to get one of these workbooks please write down ways in which you can follow the habits we have already covered while you are doing your home learning.

The habits we have covered so far:

Be Proactive

Begin with the end in mind

Put first things first

Spelling

Our fourth lesson of the day is spelling.

Practise your spelling words in any way you like.

You can practise them using a spelling task such as rainbow writing or pyramid words or you can play games on www.spellingtraining.com.

If possible, after you have practised them, can you ask an adult to test you on your spelling words? This could be done verbally or by writing them down.

The spelling lists can be found below.

Activity Time Challenge

It’s time to play but first there is a challenge! Can you create your own board game which you can play with someone at home? Be creative! Here are some things to think about:

What are you going to use as the ‘board’ for your game?

E.g. cardboard / paper / blank jotter

What shape are you going to make your board?

Circle / rectangle / square / another shape?

How many spaces are you going to have? Which direction do you go in? Can you only go one way or lots of ways?

What happens when you land on certain spaces in your game? Do you miss turns or get asked a question? You could include maths and spelling questions. What happens when someone gets a question right / wrong?

How do you win the game? What is your game called? What could you use for counters?

It’s up to you how to play and make your game. You may wish to use items you can find at home. Always ask an adult’s permission first. Remember it could be as simple as drawing out your board game on a piece of paper.

You may also wish to write out instructions to explain to others how to play.

We hope you have a good weekend. We’ll be back on Microsoft teams on Monday. Take care everyone.

Thursday 26.03.2020

Good Morning Primary 5! I hope you are all doing well and are ready for Thursday’s lessons!

Just a reminder that Joe Wicks is live on his you tube channel at 9am but you can still access his P.E. videos later in the day if you miss it!

Please do what you can boys and girls. There is no expectation to complete all tasks or to ‘hand them in’ on Microsoft Teams.  Work can be completed in jotters, on paper or class notebook so don’t worry if you are unable to print the sheets.

Writing

Our writing lesson today is to write a description of a character from a film or book. Choose a character that you know well and would be able to write in a lot of detail about. Think of adjectives to describe their appearance (what they look like), unique traits (what makes them special) where they live and anything else that you can think of that is interesting.

This lesson is in two parts.

Part 1

First you must plan your writing using the planning sheet as a guide to help you. Please use your jotter / paper / notebook for planning. Take notes for each part of your writing, write down good adjectives, interesting phrases and words you would like to use.

Remember when you are writing a description you need to structure your work. You need to include: a title, introduction , characteristics of your character and an evaluation.

Your planning sheet can be found below.

There is an example provided for you to look at for help, guidance and ideas. Click the link below to access the example.

Harry Potter

Part 2

Once you have planned your writing you can get started. You can write on paper, lined jotter or type your writing onto a word document.

Mathematics

Mathematics

Your weekly CLIC can be found below.

CLIC Session P5 T3 W1 (1)

Practise your times tables in different ways.

Write down the times tables that you need most practise with and recite them. Ask an adult / older sibling to test you. If you know all your tables well practise division facts for your tables instead. For example, instead of practising the 8 times table as 8×7=56, try and work out 56÷8 =?

Use ‘Hit the Button’ to practise your tables. Once again if you feel confident with your tables, try the division facts.

Lastly have a go at the daily 10 on the Topmarks website. You can choose which times tables you would like to practise. If you like a challenge, reduce the amount of seconds you have to answer the question and see how quick you can be!

After completing ‘Hit the Button’ and ‘Daily 10’ log onto your Mathletics account and have a go at any tasks set, or use live Mathletics.
