Artist Study in P4
As part of our IDL topic of Europe we will look at some famous people from across Europe. This week we started with France and the famous painter Claude Monet. We learned he was born in Paris and was an artist from a young age. He is famous for his impressionist style and we started to study his techniques. We focused on watercolours and we learned 4 techniques which can be used with watercolour paint. Next week we will use those techniques to create a ‘Water Lillies’ picture just like Claude Monet.
Maths week in P4
To celebrate maths week we have been having some fun with numbers. We have enjoyed playing Sumdog and completing the challenges. We went on a litter pick and as we collected the litter we completed a tally mark sheet to record the different types of litter we found. We then added up each total to see which type of litter was the most common. It was great to see how maths can be used in practical every day situations and tasks.
Learning about Robert Burns in P3
~ ROBERT BURNS ~
Robert Burns was a Scottish poet and song writer. He is known around the world as Scotland’s national poet. Burns Night is celebrated every year on 25th January, Robert Burns’ birthday. Robert Burns was born on 25th January 1759 in the village of Alloway in Ayrshire, Scotland. Burns had a very humble start to life. He was the eldest of seven children and his father was a tenant farmer so the family often struggled for money. From a young age, Burns worked as a farmer but his father knew education was important so he taught his children how to read and write. Some of Burns’ poems were based on the things he saw whilst he was out ploughing the fields. He wrote ‘To a Mouse’ after he turned over a field mouse’s nest with his plough. He wrote his first love song at the age of 15 but it wasn’t until the age of 27 that his poems were published. Burns died on 21st July 1796 at the age of 37. One of Burns’ most famous poems is Auld Lang Syne. It is sung all over the world on 31st December.

Rocco – His house is a museum now.
Stella – I liked doing a fact file about him.
Jessica – We made Burns cards. There are lots of statues of him around the world.
Damon – We listened to Auld Lang Syne and sang it.
Cooking Club’s BACK!!!!
It was our first week back in Cooking Club today and we made Bonfire Pizzas!!
We made our dough from scratch using plain flour, warm water, yeast and a pinch of salt – everyone did so well mixing all the ingredients together and shaping their dough into balls to flatten into pizza shapes.
We got to choose our toppings to make ‘fireworks’ and the options were Red Leicester Cheddar (orange), Mature Cheddar (white), Mozzarella (white), Yellow Pepper, Red Pepper, Red Onion and Pepperoni.
Massive well done to everyone on week 1!!!
