Craft and construction club started last week and we are enjoying the freedom to be creative. We started with a Lent theme last week and moved onto Spring this week. We enjoy playing with the train track, Lego and blocks and we have enjoyed colouring and creating craft pictures. This week we made some Spring trees with blossoms. They will be beautiful when completed.
Primary 6 & 7 hosted a super Burns Supper in the dining hall today for parents and carers. After a welcome from the House Captains we kicked off with a song from P6 and poems from P7.
Next we enjoyed some live music and some pipes and drums before we addressed the haggis. After a feast of haggis, neeps and tatties followed by Irn Bru and shortbread, we heard poems from P6 and finished with the P7 song.
On display were our Robbie Burns information reports and portraits, as well as our tartan kilts.
It was a great turnout – thank you to all parents and careers who came along. Special thanks to Mrs Blair for playing the piano and to kitchen staff for making the afternoon possible by preparing such a lovely feast.
At St Mary’s we are very proud of Karlie, Jaxon, Bonnie and Jessica who made the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday. It was a lovely service with Mass celebrated by Father Marcin. It was a very special night for the children and their families.

This week we have been using our concrete materials and blending our maths and engineering skills to revise our knowledge on place value by building the best castle using our dean’s materials. We then counted our materials to reach the total amount used.
We have finished our WW1 topic this week by completing our own projects on a specific area of WW1 (The Treaty of Versailles, Kaiser Wilhelm II, The Battle of Marne and The Battle of the Somme). We then created a lesson to teach the rest of the class about our topic and planned a short activity to assess the rest of the class of what we had taught them. Our activities included 2 truths and a lie, a Kahoot, an interactive board game and a quiz. We were surprised how much we enjoyed hosting a lesson.
We had the pleasure of working with Primary 2 this week where we learned all about Chinese New Year which takes place on Saturday 10th February. As this year is the year of the dragons we worked together to create our own colourful dragons. We had a great time doing this. Don’t you think they are amazing? We do! We can wait to come back and work with Primary 2 again, thanks for having us Primary 2!

Well done to Aine in P6 who won the Scots Poetry Competition with her recital of The Puddock by John M. Caie. Aine won the shield and was awarded with it by the Robert Sorbie’s daughters who were the guest judges. The standard was incredibly high and everyone who made the final did a great job! It was a very enjoyable event!
This week we had the opportunity to use our problem solving and coding skills with the Bee-Bots. We gave our Bee-Bot a sequence of instructions to navigate around the classroom. We had to be confident with left and right and work out directions for the Bee-Bot to follow.
Once we were confident with the basic coding instructions we then used maps where we could navigate the Bee-Bots around the roads.
We have really enjoyed learning about famous artists this year. As our IDL topic is a Scottish focus we wanted to learn about a famous Scottish artist. We learned about Gillian Kyle who is a textile designer. She is greatly inspired by all things Scottish. We learned that she was born in Renfrewshire and studied at the Glasgow School of Art. She creates designs for products such as aprons, cushions and table mats. She takes her influence from lots of Scottish products such as Tunnocks Teacakes, Caramel Wafers, Irn Bru and haggis. We used Scottish products and looked at the design of their packaging and then created a piece of art in the style of Gillian Kyle.
