Dear Readers,

We hope you have had a great week.

As Term 1 has finished, we had to say goodbye to our much well loved topic of the Vikings and were all very sorry for that! So sorry that the class have asked to watch Vicky the Viking for story time, which is very much fun and continues to teach us many things about them.

Next week we will hopefully introduce our new topic, which will not be spoiled now but will hopefully be very interesting and fun.

The highlights this week were:

• Spelling wordsearch and different spelling activities.
• Working more and more on telling the time to become true experts! Some of our boys and girls can even read the time shown in the class’ clock, to the minute!
• Going to the Woodlands, for the first time in Primary 3, to read and listen to Halloween poems.
• Weekly spelling assessment.
• Reconciliation lesson during which we have discussed how we all belong to a Family, Class, School, Parish, Community and how we are loved within those groups to which we belong.😊
• Learning about the importance of the UN Convention of the rights of the Child and start working towards helping the school being awarded the Gold medal recognition for being an excellent Rights Respecting School. As always, in Primary 3A we believe that: Team work makes the dream work!😃👍

We would now like to congratulate our new Hot Chocolate of the week, John!🥇Well done, John!👍😃

And to our new Kindness Champions, Ollie, Zosia and Aiden, many congratulations as well! We are very proud of you🥇🥈🥉🥳! The total of kindness notes, awarded to pupils when they are caught being good and never when they say they have been good, was 41! Super kind class!

Dear Parents,

We can’t believe another fun week has flown by!

During literacy this week, we focused on learning about and using onomatopoeia. On Tuesday, we played a really fun game of onomatopoeia charades with Mrs Callaghan and then applied our knowledge to create some fantastic fireworks night poetry. We also played lots of fun games on Monday to practice our Wordboost spelling words.

Throughout maths we have primarily been focusing on money and budgeting. We worked really hard on solving some tricky 2-step word problems and adding lots of different coins together. Using our knowledge of this, we had lots of fun in our budgeting lessons. We were all allocated £15 to spend in a restaurant or cafe of our choice and we were challenged to buy a main meal, a side and a drink with this budget. We looked at some online menus and found that in some restaurants it was much easier to stick to our set budget than others! On Thursday, we were set another exciting budget challenge. We had to create a plan of purchases for a classroom revamp! We all had different budgets and discussed the importance of differentiating between a need and a want when planning for purchases within a set budget. We did extremely well and Miss Ventisei now has an extremely long shopping list!

This week we have been extremely busy getting ready for our sustainable Christmas Enterprise! We have all finalised our ideas and are now starting to create our products. Super collaboration, communication and problem-solving skills have been displayed by all pupils throughout this project- well done P5A!

During R.E. we have been learning about Diwali. We discussed how and why people celebrate Diwali within different religions and cultures and also some celebrations specific to Scotland. It was also really lovely to hear the personal experiences and beliefs from children within the class who celebrate this special festival. Through this, we learned about Rangoli art and even created some of our own to display in the school! We loved looking at all of the beautiful colours and patterns used to create this special type of art.

Another highlight of the week was Outdoor Learning. We had a challenge to work collaboratively to make a broomstick using only 1 piece of string and natural materials. This proved to be lots of fun but also built upon so many wonderful problem-solving and communication skills.

On Friday, we were lucky enough to have a special visitor- Dallas- to help us with preparing for our handball festival in November. We had so much fun playing lots of interesting games and learning how to play a new sport.

Leo: “My favourite thing this week was doing the crafts during IDL!”

Max: “I loved learning about our child rights this week and also singing the rights song!”

Bentley: “I liked learning about Diwali and making my own Rangoli pattern”

Jacob: “I loved ERIC and learning the 25 times table this week!”

Olivia: “I loved P.E!”

Weronika: “I loved learning the 25 times table with the counting stick!”

Eilidh: “I liked P.E.!”

Madeleine and Emili: “Our favourite part of the week was Outdoor Learning when we worked in teams to build a broomstick from natural resources!”

Our Hot Chocolate winner for this week was Jacob! He worked exceptionally hard to show super listening, kindness and respect to all those in his class. Well done Jacob!

Here is our learning for term 2.

What a busy week in P1B.  This week we have been learning the sounds n and t.  We created a night time scene and made toast.  We have been working very hard on the formation of these sounds and we are now learning to blend our sounds together to make words.  Our teachers are very proud of us.

In writing we read the story ‘Room on the Broom’ and we drew a picture and wrote a sentence about what was on our broom.  We read the Magical Muddle and turned ourselves into a creature.  We drew a picture and wrote a sentence about our picture.

Maths this week we have been learning all about numbers 12 and 13 and how to form them.  We have been adding numbers within 10 and learning about number families.

We investigated pumpkins, we read the story ‘Christopher Pumpkin’  and had the opportunity to help carve some pumpkins.  We then counted how many seeds in each pumpkin.

This week we were very excited to meet with our Buddies and create Halloween decorations we had lots of fun.  We made pumpkin paper plates and designed Halloween costumes.

In Health and Well Being we have been learning about how to keep safe when out Trick or Treating and in the dark weather.

This week we have been learning the sound ‘t’ and ‘n’. We also learned the word ‘my’. We have been using the magnet letters and the Alphablock tiles to make words. We are getting really good at spelling our words. In writing, we used Room on the Broom to help us write a sentence. We wrote what was on our broom and we used our sounds to help us spell out the words.

In maths, we have been learning about number 11 and 12. We have been using our finger patterns to help us add. We are also practising numbers before and after to 20. We used a number line to help us.

We have had lots of Halloween activities in the classroom. The potion lab has been very popular. We have also been creating our own pumpkin designs in the Creative Zone.

On Friday, we had a visit from our Buddies. We made pumpkin pictures to decorate the area for our Halloween Joining the Learning Day on Monday.

Some of our personal highlights this week are

Vedansh – I liked reading.

Eve – I liked colouring.

Olga – I liked writing.

Vasilisa – I liked drawing the love hearts.

Connor – My favourite thing was learning the Word Boost words.

Miss Stebbing – I am very proud of everyone counting all the way to 50 and backwards from 20.

Dear Parents,

Lots going on this week in Primary 7! Miss Davis, our student teacher, has been leading lots of interesting lessons and Mr McGurn is still around helping out too.

In maths, we have continued our work on addition and subtraction and enjoyed an ‘Escape Room’ on Tuesday. Luckily we escaped on time and got out of the class in time for lunch.

We have been writing limericks and especially enjoyed hearing some of Edward Lear’s famous funny Limericks. We’ll post some of our finished ones next Friday.

In HWB we learned about Article 24 of the Rights of a Child and have been discussing the dangers of alcohol. We also had some special coaches in for this week’s PE for football.

We have started our Sustainability and Renewable Energy topic and were learning about the Beatitudes in RME.

On Friday we got to meet up with our buddies to do some Halloween art.

Chiedochie’s was, “We were working with our buddies, learning addition and subtraction. We were also doing a maths word problems escape room.”

Tanvi said, “I liked our buddies because it was fun and I got to know my buddy more.”

Pupil Highlights:

Alex: We were revising how to multiply a number by 10,100 and 1000. The numbers move to the left. It depends on how much you are multiplying the number. If it is 10, the numbers move once in their place to the left. If you multiply by 100, the numbers move along two places.

‘Every number has a place and every place has a value’ thank you Mr Pentland for this useful place value phrase.

Rupert: We have been collecting our words of the day and encountered vocab.

Kieran: When we are given our word of the day, we use the ipads and go on word hippo or nifty word and search the meaning of the word.

Debbie: We have to identify the number of syllables, the word class, synonyms, antonyms , prefix and suffix.

Hanna: We also have to provide an example sentence to show how the word can be used.

Caiden: Our words in context this week have been :

‘The library has a diversity of books.’

‘The Clyde Side had a diversity of boats.’

‘The police man deprived the prisoner of their phone.’

Rebecca: ‘ I am sleep deprived.’

Hannah: We went into working groups with primary six to learn and test each other on maths vocabulary.

Rupert: We had to ascertain the definitions of maths vocabulary.
