P5A Weekly Update: W.c. 12th September 2022

Hello everyone!

This week P5A have enjoyed another action packed week! We have been busy learning about King John Balliol and his contributions towards the Scottish Wars of Independence and Miss Ventisei was so impressed with the children’s highly knowledgeable and informed discussion surrounding life as a King in 1292 versus 2022! Miss Ventisei was also really proud of the quality of P5A’s writing this week- we were using our experience of baking an apple crumble to write a procedure! Well done P5A!  The children also loved learning about angles and 2D shapes with Mrs McLaughlin and were able to apply their knowledge to various real-life situations throughout the week .

Another highlight of the week was outdoor learning; we were planting daffodil bulbs in the school garden and working hard to find and clear all of the litter in the playground! It was wonderful to hear how passionate the children were about taking care of our environment.

Our focus for Health and Wellbeing this week was centred around the wellbeing indicator of Nurtured. We discussed collaboratively what this means to us and created some whole-class mindmaps to brainstorm ideas of what being nurtured feels like, sounds like and looks like. The children also voiced some fantastic ideas as to how pupils and adults can help to nurture each other in and around the school.

Wednesday was also a special day in P5A as we welcomed our families into our classroom for the Meet the Teacher event! Thank you so much to everyone who came along, it was lovely to meet everyone and share some of our upcoming learning.

Here is a copy of our learning for this term.

Thank you for another great week P5A! Have a lovely long weekend and see you all on Wednesday!

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 15th September 2022

This week we have been learning about the letter ‘c’. We also learned the word ‘can’. We wrote the letter ‘c’ using yellow pen and we drew pictures of words that have ‘c’ as the first sound.  In writing, we helped to write a sentence using ‘can’. We wrote about all the things that Ogilvie Bear can do.

We have been learning to take care of the toys and to work together with our friends. We know it is important to look after our friends.

This week we read the story about The Little Spot of Anger. We learned how to calm down when we are angry. We have to tap our fingers and breathe deeply.

In Maths, we have been learning about repeating patterns. We made our own patterns using the penguins and we completed a task on Seesaw where we had to finish the pattern.  We have been writing number 6 and 7 this week. We have tried very hard to write them the correct way.

During PE, we were learning to throw the ball, bounce the ball and pass the ball to our friend. Mrs Lafferty was very pleased with us.

Some of our personal highlights this week are

Eve – I liked bouncing the ball.

Harald – I enjoyed PE.

Kacper – I enjoyed PE.

Vendash – I liked learning about Ready Rosie and playing with my friends.

Olga – I enjoyed playing with my friends.

Tiya – I enjoyed colouring in the balloons that had ‘can’ written in them.

Miss Stebbing

Another fantastic week in P1A with everyone working hard on the ‘c’ sound and the word ‘can’. I was very impressed with everyone’s efforts to write ‘can’ in their own sentences. It was lovely to meet so many parents and carers at the Meet the Teacher evening.

Primary 4B Weekly Blog 15th September 2022

Blog:

In Primary 4B, we have been learning more about Children’s Rights and how this links to the wellbeing indicators (SHANARRI) and our school rules (Ready Respectful and Safe).  We have been working really hard to be more respectful towards each other and we have identified specific ways in which we can achieve this.  We are making great progress in the classroom and are now going to continue working on being more respectful during break and lunchtime too. We are also learning about different emotions and are building the vocabulary to describe different feelings to others.  We enjoyed working in pairs to consider why people may feel different emotions.  We were great at acting out these different emotions too!

In maths, we have shown a really good understanding of number lines and the rounding rules to be able to round to the nearest 10 and 100.  We really enjoy doing Big Maths Beat That! as well and are improving our rapid recall of number bonds.

In literacy, we have been working on the ll spelling rule and continued with our reading comprehension work.  Our handwriting skills are also coming on well and we really enjoy completing tasks to improve these.  We have applied our understanding of capital letters and punctuation by writing and editing a story about a hedgehog.  Mrs Brown has been extremely impressed with our stories!  We are now moving on to learning about procedures (instructions for how to do something or how to get somewhere).  We enjoyed thinking about where we find procedural texts in real life.

Here are some of our classmate’s highlights from this week:

Jude enjoyed rounding in maths, especially to the nearest 100.

Jonah liked doing hockey in PE and rounding to the nearest 10.

Emily, Zac and Ishani enjoyed completing artwork in Health and Wellbeing.

Stefi enjoyed writing her hedgehog story.

We have asked for homework books to be brought in next Wednesday and reading books for next Thursday please.  Teams information has been handed out now and homework can be uploaded there instead of handwritten in the homework book if preferred.

Have a lovely long weekend everybody and I look forward to seeing you again on Wednesday.

P7B Learning Highlights Week Beginning 5.9.22

This week we looked at several information reports and began to develop our note taking skills in preparation for our research into Scotland through the decades.

Congratulations to Riya, our Hot Chocolate Winner this week for becoming more confident in class and contributing such considered opinions when describing the purpose of an information report.

Our last two hot chocolate winners since we have been back at school have been Zac and Hannah for being being outstanding contributors and responsible young adults.

Pupil Highlights:

Alex: This week we were taking notes and on Monday we took notes on Newsround. Using our notes we put them in sentences to make them our own and then we made our own power points.

Anthony: We made posters about bullying and we discussed types of bullying and how it can affect the victim.

Kieran: We decorated photos of ourselves for our classroom door. We also looked at several information reports and what they are.

Debbie: We identified the structure, audience and purpose of an information report.

P2B Week Beginning 5th September 2022

Hello P2B families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Red Table:

Ollie really enjoyed going on a bug hunt in the woodlands and looking at them under a magnifying glass.  The class listened to a story from the Tweenies who went bug hunting, so they decided they wanted to go bug hunting too!  Up to the woods we went and searched under rocks and logs and under the wet leaves.  We found slugs, spiders, earwigs among others.  Mrs Devlin caught some (reluctantly) and if we chose to, examined them more closely.

Ishann loved being chosen for this week’s Lead Learner!  He has the important job of setting a target for the class to work on (something we could improve upon) of which Ishaan and his co-Lead Leader chose, ‘listening better on the carpet’.  Lead Learners also tell visitors what we are learning and they help give out the dinner tickets – a very responsible set of tasks!

Maya said the favourite part of her week was the Spanish lesson where we learned how to respond to the register in the mornings.  If we are present, then we say ‘Presente’ and if someone is off, we say ‘Ausente’.  One way we remember how to say ‘Ausente’ is by starting of saying ‘aaawwwwwhhhhhh’ because we are sad that person is not with us today, then we finish with ‘sente’.

Musa liked playing with the marble run this week during ‘Choosing our own Learning’ time.  He demonstrated super creativity in his construction!  Well done Musa!

Mrs Devlin’s highlight this week was the response the children had to a story we read about a whale that had died due to pollution.  This lesson grew arms and legs as the children endeavoured to make posters to put around the school to remind everyone to recycle.  They did super teamwork as they worked in teams.  We practised folding a crisp packet so it is less likely to be carried in the wind and end up in our oceans.  We also looked at some images of landfill sites and beaches filled with rubbish people did not take home and plastic bottles floating in the sea.  We saw a turtle about to eat a plastic bag and we saw a dead whale lying on a beach.  All very sad and all very preventable.  P2B will be helping to take care of God’s beautiful world!

Congratulations to Amariah-Grace, our Hot Chocolate award winner this week!

Primary 3B – Week Beginning 5/09/22

It has been another busy week in Primary 3B!

This week, children enjoyed making clocks in Maths; including the notation of numbers 1 – 12 and dividing the clock into two halves, to show minutes past and minutes to. Children also enjoyed taking part in spelling practice through word searches and ‘Look, Cover, Write, Check’. Some children have told me that they really enjoyed their spelling test!

In Numeracy, we ordered 2/3 digit numbers and discussed how the value of the digits help us to decide the order.

Furthermore, we have been working on our topic ‘The Vikings’. Children have told me that they already know that Vikings were brave, they liked fighting, they sailed on ships and some even suffered from seasickness! Children would like to find out how big the Viking ships were and how they managed to fit 60 people on one ship.

This week our star table is Table Cinco (5)! Well done to them for earning the most pebbles by working hard and following the school rules!

We would also like to congratulate Aaeryn – Leigh on being our Hot Chocolate Award Winner this week! Aaeryn – Leigh has been trying extremely hard this week in her Maths and Numeracy work!

P6B – WB 5th September

Dear P6B families,

Another great week in P6B! Miss MacGregor has been so impressed with all the fantastic work, everyone has been working so hard!
We continued our work on numbers within 100,00 and looked at the different ways we can represent numbers by challenging our friends.

We started our first writing genre topic for this term which is Narrative, so this week we got creative and wrote some great stories. Miss MacGregor has enjoyed reading all of them!

We have started our new Topic – Ancient Rome. We studied the entire Roman timeline to get an understanding of what happened. This was very exciting because we were allowed to write on the tables and use them as big whiteboards! (Pictures are below)

Our highlights for this week are:

  • We enjoyed exploring different maths learning sites on the IPads.
  • We thought creating the Roman Timeline was very fun and interesting.
  • We liked learning about the Global Goals and creating our own posters describing what they mean.

Well done to Gracie who was our Hot Chocolate winner. Gracie has been very resilient in her maths work and continues to always try hard – keep up the fantastic work Gracie!

Here are some picture highlights of the week and a copy of our learning overview for the term. Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Weekly update: 9th September 2022

Hello P5A families!

We have had yet another fantastic week in P5. We have been busy revising our knowledge of odd and even numbers in numeracy and continued with our class novel, Wonder. We have also been learning all about the solar system and the movement of planets- ask us about how we remember the order of planets closest to the sun! Our biggest project this week was baking our very own apple and plum crumble! We picked the fruit from the garden ourselves, cut and prepared the fruit and finally made the crumble. We also helped Miss Ventisei to measure and weigh out all of the ingredients we would need- Eilidh even wrote a shopping list! We enjoyed every step and were very excited to eat it on Friday morning!  Here are some of our favourite moments of the week:

Fahad: “I really loved maths this week!”

Lili: “My favourite moment of the week was baking the crumble!”

Weronika: “I loved EATING the crumble!”

Dawid: ” I loved learning all about the solar system this week.”

Eilidh: “I loved P.E. this week!”

Callie: “My favourite part of the week was designing our own crosses during R.E”

Our Hot Chocolate Friday winner for this week was Callie who demonstrated our school values of Ready, Respectful and Safe all week. We are all so proud of you Callie, well done!

We also managed to get lots and lots of names on our recognition board this week! Our focus for the week was on our school value of Respect. Well done P5A, Miss Ventisei is so proud of you all!

Miss Ventisei is also very much looking forward to welcoming all of our parents and families to the Meet the Teacher evening on Wednesday this coming week.

Here are some class pictures taken this week!

Have a lovely weekend! 🙂

P5B Weekly blog 9th September 2022

Monday – We made some space art and included the first letter of our first name.

Tuesday – We used ipads and netbooks to research facts about Edward I of England. He wanted to rule Scotland when Alexander III died.

Wednesday – We had assembly in the morning with Mrs McLaughlin.

We learned about Article 12 – Children and young people don’t have as much power as adults. They can’t vote, and they don’t have as much money. But Article 12 says we have the human right to have opinions and for these opinions to be heard and taken seriously. At school we share our ideas and opinions in class about our learning. We shared our ideas about ways to protect our planet.  We went outside and collected apples and plums to make crumble.

Thursday – Today we made apple crumble and ate it hot with ice cream. It was great fun. We wrote out the recipe in our writing lesson. In the afternoon we were finding out more information about planets in our Solar System.

Friday –  We chose new lead learners. They are Fatima K and Luke. Our Hot chocolate person is Emma. We worked in partners to practise our French Greetings. Maja shared her medal with the class. Congratulations and well done Maja.  Have a great weekend everyone
