Primary 4B weekly blog 21st October 2022

We’ve had a very short yet lovely and productive week this week!

We played Musical Corners in PE yesterday.  We love PE and this was a real highlight!

We are learning about time still in maths.  We have been converting between analogue and digital times (to the nearest minute) and we are becoming much more confident at doing this.  Mrs Brown has suggested we practise this at home with our families too, particularly when converting an analogue time that is ‘to’ the hour.  Today, we applied our understanding through learning about am and pm.  We enjoyed our discussions about midday and midnight.

In literacy, we are continuing with our procedures work and we are continuing to learn about inventors and inventions in topic.  Next week, we are going to design and construct our own invention.  We have been asked to bring in clean, recyclable objects to use for this (but nothing that has held strawberries, kiwis or nuts). If we have any spare pots, tubs, boxes etc, can we please have them to share in our ‘junk bank’.  Please can we bring these into school before Tuesday 25th October.  Thank you!

Here are some highlights of this week:

Emily- I enjoyed maths.

Daisy Dee- I enjoyed drawing when we compared the 1920’s to today.

Matteo- I really enjoyed doing the midday and midnight work.

Markuss: I liked learning about time.

Khael: I enjoyed writing and maths.

Ishani S and M: I liked doing PE because we got to do Halloween Corners.

Daniel M: I enjoyed Free Writing Friday.

Please can the children bring their reading books back on Monday if they haven’t done so already.  Please can they also bring in their homework books for Monday.  Spellings will be given out on Monday and the children should be writing these into their homework books.   Thank you.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.  I have loved seeing you all back at school again after the holidays and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

P1B 21st October 2022

It was lovely to see all our friends again this week after the October holiday. Although it was a short week, we have managed to squeeze a lot of good learning and play into our days in P1B.

We have been learning the letter and sound ‘a’ this week. We started to blend our learned sounds together to make words, we were all very excited that we could sound out, build and read words.

Cameron – I liked colouring in an apple.

Owen – I liked using m to make words.

We have been adding up to 10 this week and enjoyed using the Ipads to do our task on Seesaw.

Connor – I liked using the Ipads.

Martyna/Owen – I liked counting conkers.

Outdoor learning this week was based on the book ‘Leaf Man’ because we have been learning about seasons. We collected our own leaves and made a leaf man in the playground for the wind to blow away on an adventure. We all know what trees look like in the different seasons.

Faye – I liked making leaf man.

Rhain – I liked leaf man.

Azmeer – I like it when leaves fall off trees.

Owen – I like picking leaves off the ground.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 21st October 2022

This week we learned the sound ‘a’. We have been practising the vowel house story and we are getting good at remembering the sounds for each part. We were spelling out words and had to hit the sounds in the correct order. It was lots of fun!

In maths, we have been looking at facts for 5 and we were able to give lots of examples. We have also been looking at our dot patterns and had to say it quickly before it disappeared!

We have started our new Topic all about Space. We are looking forward to learning about the sun, the moon, the stars and the planets.

In Art, we made Autumn trees using paints and cotton buds. They look very beautiful. We also went outside and collected lots of leaves from the tree in the nursery garden. We then made our own leaf man and watched the wind take it away on an adventure.

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Joshua – I enjoyed playing with the cars.

Olga – I enjoyed writing.

Harald – I enjoyed playing with the trains.

Summer – I enjoyed hearing the Leaf Man story.

Vasilisa – I enjoyed drawing.

Alexander – I enjoyed making the Leaf Man and it did not blow away.

Miss Stebbing – I loved reading the Leaf Man story and seeing all the wonderful Leaf Men made with the leaves outside. I was also very impressed with how hard everyone tried to read and write words during Literacy Time.

P5B Weekly Blog 21st October 2022

On Wednesday P5B pupils came back to school ready for the new term and the new topic.

This term we will be working towards our Sustainable Christmas Enterprise Show in December. We will be making Christmas gifts, decorations and Christmas gift wrap. On the day of the show, we will welcome Parents and friends of the family to watch us perform some Christmas songs, Advertising jingles and sell our Christmas Creations. The children will then decide how best to use the profits of their enterprise.

As the theme is sustainability this year we are asking for donations, where possible, of

  • Old clothes, towels or sheets, which are ready for the bin as opposed to charity shop or clothing bank. To be recycled into Christmas sale items
  • Plastic shopping bags
  • Odds of wool, cardboard boxes (cereal packets etc)
  • Old, broken pieces of crayon
  • Used glass jars (jam, chocolate spread)

Your children have shared amazing ideas for things they want to make and this would provide the materials necessary for your children to carry out their Christmas Enterprise project .

P6A Update

We had a great week to finish term 1!

P6 have worked brilliantly this week! We reviewed decimals and fractions, created Halloween place value charts to use at home after the break and continued our work on narrative. The learners have been very creative. To continue our germ experiment we looked at ways we can keep ourselves and others safe – even creating great posters for the upper area of the school.

Myles and Olivier, enjoyed drama this week- making funny scenes to teach people about Ancient Rome! Patrick liked writing his narrative this week on the netbook!
Grant liked reviewing decimals and linking it to our place value work!

The whole class mentioned they loved creating their end of unit IDL poster to showcase their learning! They are fantastic!

P2B Week Beginning 3rd October 2022

Hello P2B families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Red and Green Tables:

Ollie said the best part of his week was when we were counting in twos during Maths.  He did a super job organising a pile of socks into pairs and counting in twos to find out how many there were altogether.  He discovered that counting in twos is quicker than counting in ones!

Ishaan absolutely loved watching a cartoon his grandparent may of watched called, ‘Morph’.  We then using the app ‘Stop Motion’ to create our very own Morph cartoons!  We manipulated playdoh to create different freeze frames that the app then put together to form a short film.  They were super!  Some children still need to make theirs as we ran out of time.

Maya liked playing ‘Green Light, Red Light’ during PE with Mrs Laffterty.

Olivia said the favourite part of her week was revising the ‘ch’ sound.  We discovered that ‘tch’ makes the same sound too and mostly comes after a vowel at the end of words.  She liked cutting coin shapes out and sticking them into a piggy bank that contained that sound.

Lewis loved our lesson about Capacity.  The children learned that the packaging of liquids tell you exactly how much liquid is in the bottle.  In P2 we focus on litres and half litres.  The children guessed the capacity of different sized containers and then compared their results withour findings after we actually filled them with a measuring jug that held one litre.

Evana said the best part of her week was watching the Morph cartoon.  They can be found on Youtube but the one we watched can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgeUu8pXDeY&t=453s

Safaa liked the game we played linked to our learning about the ‘tch’ sound.  We had to throw a ball or beanbag up into the air and catch it when we heard a word that ended with this sound.  Safaa was one of the winners!

Theo enjoyed the Autumn art we completed this week.  Look out for your child’s beautiful Autumn art on Seesaw over the weekend!

Amariah-Grace chose the House Group winners reward as her ‘best bit’ of the week as she was in the winning house, St Filan!  The winners enjoyed a movie in the Hall with snacks.

Mrs Devlin’s highlight was when we talked about the changes we see all around during the season of Autumn, Mrs Devlin’s favourite season.  We marvelled at the beauty of God’s world at this time of year.

Congratulations to TJ, our Hot Chocolate award winner this week!

I hope you all enjoy the break and I will see you all back to school on Wednesday 19th!  I cannot believe we are at the end of Term One already!  Before we know it, it will be Christmas!  How time flies when you are having fun!

P3A – WB 03.10.22

Dear Readers!

We can’t believe this is already the end of term 1! Wow!😄

We hope you have had a great week and are looking forward to having a bit of extra time together with your children!❤

Our highlights for the week were:

  • All the learning about the Vikings, including their longhouses, their clothes, their jewellery and other practical aspects of their lives.
  • Following the tutorial to draw our own versions of the Vikings longhouses.
  • In Maths, we have revised the Days of the week, Months and Seasons of the Year and have also learned how to tell the time to a quarter past and a quarter to. It would be really good to keep practising at home so that nobody forgets about this!😊
  • We have learned about all the situations in which we should use capital letters and have corrected the wrong punctuation in our tasks in a very successful way.
  • As always, we have enjoyed all the activities with the new weekly spelling words, particularly making our own wordsearches and swapping them with our friends so that they could find the words we had hidden.
  • We ended up the week with a special treat for the House Winners, the lucky St. Filan’s! Well done for all your hard work!
  • We would also like to congratulate Ben, our new Hot Chocolate of the week! 🥇Well done Ben, for trying your best to be Ready, Respectful and Safe!👏👏👏👏

  • We are very proud of our new Kindness Champions, Isabel, Julia and Kayla, for their many acts of kindness in class and for setting a lovely example for all! Well done, sweeties!😍🥇🥈🥉🥳

We wish you a very good weekend and holiday week ahead and would like to say goodbye for now!

Primary 5A Weekly Update: 7th October 2022

Dear families of P5A,

We can’t believe it is the end of our first term in primary 5! We have had a wonderful past couple of months and have achieved so much together. This week has been another fun-filled week.

Throughout literacy, we have enjoyed solving some tricky spelling anagram challenges and created some fantastic Wordboost spelling displays for our working wall. We have also really enjoyed putting a cosy fire on the smartboard and reading our class novel (Wonder) together. We have also been working hard on our procedural writing and this week managed to produce a final edit. We uplevelled our writing by including more WOW! words, including more detail in our steps and considering an appropriate layout for the reader. We did a fantastic job and Miss Ventisei was really proud! In preparation for our next writing focus of poetry, we recapped and furthered our knowledge of alliteration. We worked in partners to create our own examples of alliteration about different animals for all letters in the alphabet. Miss Ventisei was so impressed with some of our fantastic ideas. Lili and Jacob came up with ‘ a handsome hamster hilariously healed a heartbroken hyena’ which made us all laugh a lot!

Throughout IDL we have been connecting our learning of the Scottish Wars of Independence by creating a timeline of Scottish battles. Through this, we discussed the meaning of chronology and how we can use a timeline to understand when different events occurred. We also researched some more details about the Battle of Stirling Bridge, the Battle of Falkirk and the Battle of Bannockburn. Finally, we completed our battle shields by adding carboard to make them 3D, see the pictures below for some of our creations!

This week we have been applying our knowledge of estimating and rounding to some real-life contexts during maths. We solved lots of tricky problem-solving challenges related to money and we particularly enjoyed using the fake bank notes! We have also discovered a new class favourite maths game- rounding bingo! We have absolutely loved playing this to practice rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. On Thursday we continued our non-number maths topic of shape with Mrs Callaghan. We were learning about nets of 3D shapes and made our own! Some nets were quite challenging to construct, however we persevered and got there in the end! Well done P5A!

This week our Hot Chocolate winner was Fahad! Congratulations! It was recognised that Fahad went over and above all week by always helping his peers to tidy the classroom without being asked, even in areas he wasn’t working near! Thank you so much for all of your kindness and help Fahad!

Our favourite moments this week were:

Emily: I liked playing the spelling game where we had to unscramble the words.

Julia: I liked playing with the construction this week.

Jacob and Leo: Our favourite part of the week was coding!

Francesca: I loved playing Sumdog today!

Lili: I loved playing lots of fun games during P.E. today!

Weronika: I liked P.E. this week.

We hope everyone has a wonderful October holiday!

Lots of love from Primary 5A xxx
