P7B weekly Update

Another great week in P7B

Numeracy
this week in numeracy we had fun exploring ratios and what this means in a real life context. We are looking at measurement and have a great plan on how to use our new measurement knowledge next week.

Literacy

We had a great time this week with different activities everyday this week for world book week! We joined in a full school collaborative writing task, reading activities and making bookmarks for our P1 buddies.

Health and Wellbeing

We linked our whole school reading book ‘Bloom’ to emotions and kind words this week. We made really fantastic posters for display of the impact of positive and negative words.

IDL

This week we learned how to create texture in art. The children had to continue the other half of a animal. They did and are continuing to do a great job at this.

Some photo highlights this week!

P3A – WB 07.03.22

Dear Readers,

This week has been amazing!

It was Book Week and we have spent it doing lots of things related to them including reading, writing and illustrating!

All the classes of the school have read and explored the book ‘Bloom’ by Anne Both and have also completed activities related to it, including a big graph with the class’ favourite flowers!

Every day we have had to voto for one out of two books that we read and the big winner of the week was ‘Ninjabread man’, which left many of us very happy!

As the 10th of March is the feast day of our patron St. John Ogilvie, we have learned about his life and miracle and were all very impressed by them.

On Friday we had some very nice treats from the school to make snack time even yummier! Wow!

Also on Friday, our dress down day for SCIAF, we had to cover as many Malawi maps as possible with the coins we have brought from home and, believe it or not, we managed to cover 6 maps! Thank you very much to all of you for your support and for helping to improve the lifes of Malawi people by giving them the means to produce their own food, being independent and adapting to the changes and challenges that climate change brought them.

We hope you have enjoyed reading about some of the highlights of the week and wish you a lovely Sunday and a very good week!

P2B Week Beginning 7th March 2022

Hello P2B,

We have had a super week celebrating book week. We enjoyed reading lots of stories and voting on which one was the best – The Ninjabread Man was the winner!

We have been writing chapters of stories alongside the P1’s and P3’s. We were given the setting, character and an object and using our imagination, had to create part of the story. They are fabulous, we can’t wait to share them with you all.

The whole school have been reading the story ‘Bloom’ which has a wonderful message in it, ask your child to see if they can remember!

Today we had a dress down day for SCIAF and raised lots of money. Using the coins, we managed to cover 5 and a half maps of Malawi – Well done!

Highlights from the Red Table:

Aaeryn-Leigh – I really liked making the bookmarks because we got to colour them any way we wanted and give it to Primary 6s.

Matthias – I liked writing on the flowers for my friends to say you are beautiful or you are kind like in the Bloom book that we read.

Michael – I liked PE because we were doing forward rolls on the mat.

Amelia – I liked when we were doing maths and we had to see how much change the shop keeper needs to give.

Jayden – I liked doing forward rolls in PE on the mat because I am good at them. I do them on my trampoline at home.

Kacper – I liked listening to the book about penguins. I wanted it to win the vote but it didn’t.

Well done to Scott who won the Hot Chocolate Award.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence

Primary 7a Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

This week we had lots of fun and interesting activities revolving around World Book Day.

Throughout the week we were writing stories with a difference. Each day a new class had to continue a story from the day before written by another class. We contributed to 4 really interesting stories that will hopefully be shared with you soon.

We also had reading each day, and then voting for our favourite book until there was one winner between the 4 P6 and P7 classes. The eventual winner was ‘The Boy in the Orange Cape’, a lovely story about empathy and overcoming bullying.

We took part in a whole school study of the book ‘Bloom’ which was incorporated into lessons across the curriculum.

Some pupils had taken part in the Decorate a Spoon activity and brought them in to share with the class. Well done to everyone who managed to join in the fun.

Thursday was our Patron Saint’s Feast Day so Father Simon was in school to celebrate Mass with us and on Friday we had fun activities to mark the Feast Day of St. John Ogilvie.

P1B Learning Highlights 11th March 2022

What a busy week we have had!

This week we celebrated Book Week.  We had the opportunity to write our own stories working with P2B and P3B.  Each day we took turns to write a different part of the story and we even got to draw the pictures.  Every day we read two books from Epic Books and we had to vote for our favourite.  Today we found out the over all winning story was ‘The Ninjabread Man’.

We completed a mini project on the story ‘Bloom’ written by Anne Booth.  It was a lovely story about showing kindness to others and using kind words.  We drew pictures of flowers.  We made a class bar chart of our favourite flower in P1B (which was a rose) and we created our own ‘Grass Head’.  We gave our grass head a name and whispered kind words to it hoping that it will start to grow and flourish soon. We made bookmarks for our Buddies in Primary 7 and we received bookmarks from them today.  We made cards for our family to say ‘Thank You’ for all they do for us.

We brought our favourite book to school and showed off the wooden spoons we were given to create a character from a book.

On Thursday we celebrated St John Ogilvie Feast Day.  We learned about the life of John Ogilvie and we also shared in a whole school mass through Teams with Father Simon.  We loved learning the hymn ‘Lay your hands’ and Mrs Russell was very proud of us.

Today we got to wear our own clothes to school and we brought our loose change in to donate to SCIAF.  We filled lots of maps of Malawi with all our coins.

We were so excited to receive a cup cake and juice today as part of our Feast Day Celebrations.  They tasted delicious.  Thank you Mrs McKissack.

Congratulations to Sofia who was our Hot Chocolate Winner, Lilly who was our first Reading Champion and the Green Table who had the most table points this week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and we look forward to another busy and exciting week to come.

P4A Learning this week – 11th March

We have had a fantastic week.  Mrs Ross was with us on Monday and we began our collaborative story with her.  We had great ideas and made a creative start.   All week we have been working with P5, P6 and P7 to create books and can’t wait to read them all next week.   Eilidh said “this was the best part of the week.  I liked sharing my ideas and think the stories are going to be amazing!”

We have also enjoyed the story ‘Bloom’ by Anne Booth.  The story is all about a little girl, a flower and a grumpy old man.  It helped us to understand the impact of positive words and how they can help us to grow and ‘bloom’.  We are making a bloom garden for the area display and Max particularly enjoyed making the flowers and Fahad liked making the bugs and beasties for the garden.

Farrah said one of the best things this week was seeing the spoons that people had turned into characters from their favourite stories.  They were all fantastic!

Here are a selection of them.

In Spanish, we have been learning about ‘ma familia’ and are getting really good at being able to say the names of our family members.  To practice writing them we played a game of ‘100 Puntos’ and Francesca said this was her highlight of this week.  “I really enjoyed it because it was fun but we were practicing our Spanish at the same time!”

Callie enjoyed exploring Rangoli Patterns with Miss MacGregor while Mrs Callaghan worked with the boys and girls who are receiving First Holy Communion this year.

We have also been learning more about lent and the story of Jesus in the desert.

The highlight of the week was our celebration of St John Ogilvie’s feast day.  We had a beautiful mass on Thursday and on Friday we were given cupcakes and juice from Mrs McKissack and Mrs McLaughlin.  What a fantastic treat!

The first of our Reading Champions is ….   Madeleine.  Well done keep up your excellent effort with reading.

Our hot chocolate winner this week for his hard work and effort all week is …..    Leo!  Fantastic effort Leo – we are all proud of you!
