P4b weekly blog 27th January 2023

Wow!  I can’t believe that we’re almost at the end of January!  The children have worked very hard this week and I have been very impressed with some of the mature discussions we have had through our God’s Loving Plan learning.

We’ve been doing lots of writing this week to complete our narratives.  The children have thought hard about the structure of their texts, organising them into an orientation, a complication and a resolution.  They have been pushing themselves to include lots of description and interesting past tense verbs.

The children have also spent time completing a diagnostic assessment on Sumdog in school this week.  It was very important that this was completed independently, as with all Sumdog sessions, because the algorithms adapt the questioning to tailor to each individual’s need.  From now on, the children’s weekly numeracy homework will be set on Sumdog.  They are also encouraged to go on to complete additional tasks and games as it will support them with their learning in school.

Our highlights from this week:

Amelia and Khael: We enjoyed going on Sumdog.

Jude: I enjoyed doing basketball in PE because we were bouncing the balls.  We played a fun game where we had to take balls off other people.

Ishani M: I enjoyed writing my narrative because it was super fun.

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Mrs Brown

P5A Weekly Update 27th January 2023

Dear families of P5A!

We hope you are all doing well. Yet again we have had another busy and wonderful week!

Numeracy: This week we have been working really hard on multiplying and dividing decimals by 10! We started our week by creating our own place-value visual learning aids to help us when we are stuck and also had great fun playing a game of decimal multiplication catch! Miss Ventisei challenged us to complete a whole table of post-it note calculations in under 10 minutes and of course, we smashed it! Congrats P5!

Literacy: We have been working really hard on our reciprocal reading recently and we continue to demonstrate a fantastic level of ownership, responsibility and team-work when doing this. We will continue to uplevel our responses over the next term as we enjoy reading our next set of books! We have also continued with our writing genre of narrative and enjoyed writing an interesting story about a detective who finds a magical coin in an abandoned factory…

IDL: The weather this week was finally nice enough for us to venture outside for IDL! We had great fun completing lots of John Muir challenges outside in the woodland and of course, updating our John Muir Journals! It was wonderful to see lots of happy children exploring the outdoors again. We have also been learning about what a famous quote is and looked at some examples from John Muir himself. Our class favourite is:

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks. John Muir.

We are continuing our science topic of biodiversity throughout IDL and this week we looked at the anatomy and structure of a flower. We loved using scissors, tweezers and magnifying glasses to dissect and identify the internal parts of various flowers and then using technology to research each part’s unique job. Farrah said she could not believe what was underneath all of those petals!

R.E: Over the past week we have been reflecting upon our God-given gifts and how using these as Jesus demonstrates can develop our relationship with God. We have loved creating some thought-provoking mindmaps to display our ideas around this.

Thank you for reading and have a lovely weekend!

Miss Ventisei & P5A!

P6B 27.01.23

Wow, what a week we have had! As I am sure you can all imagine, a lot of this week was finalising the preparation for our Burns’ Supper and Class Assembly. We have been busy creating PowerPoints about the life and work of Robert Burns, making posters about famous Scots’, making Scottish dictionaries with all the news words we have learnt throughout the topic, creating highland ‘coo’ artwork on the Netbooks using 3D Paint and learning how to make tartan by weaving paper together. I hope you all enjoyed exploring the learning and discussing it with the children.

My definite highlight was the Burns’ performance – I am so incredibly proud of everyone (as we all are)! It was a beautiful performance by everybody! Thank you all so much who attended.

Well done to Zephaniah who won the hot chocolate. Zephaniah has been working really hard and trying to be focussed on his learning and following our rules.

Here are our some photo highlights – working hard to prepare for our events, doing some Narrative writing (in a relaxing setting!) and taking part in Number Talks.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and see you on Monday!

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 27th January 2022

This week in Literacy, we learned about ‘qu’ and ‘ng’. We used the Alphablocks to build the words with ‘ng’. We also had to write the letters correctly, we are trying hard to make sure the letters start in the right place.  In writing, we wrote our very own narrative stories. We had to remember to use finger spaces, a capital letter and a full stop that was on the line.

In maths, we have been learning about doubles. We had to make spots on the ladybirds to show the double. We are getting more confident in remembering the doubles and saying them quickly.

In topic work, we talked about different types of transport.  We talked about cars, bikes, helicopters, aeroplanes, walking and buses that we have seen in our local area. We also talked about how some transport can cause pollution and how we are trying to help the environment.

In RE, we spoke about Mary the mother of Jesus. We also drew pictures of our own mums.

We have a shop in our classroom and we have been buying different items with the money. Some people have been scanning the items and making announcements about the shop.

On Wednesday, we celebrated Burns’ Night by eating shortbread and drinking some Irn Bru. We have been learning scots words and we listened to the story of the Gruffalo in Scots. We learned about a Scottish Artist called Charles Rennie McIntosh and we drew a Glasgow Rose for our display.

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Joshua – I enjoyed playing with the cars.

Harald – I enjoyed learning to make words with the Alphablocks.

Summer Rose – I enjoyed learning about counting down numbers.

Lillian – I enjoyed learning about different kinds of money.

Vasilisa – I enjoyed learning about making a show.

Mohitha – I enjoyed learning about working together.

Miss Stebbing – I am very proud of how well everyone has done with their reading books in our groups this week.

Well done to Lillian who is our Reading Champion.

Congratulations to Eve who is our hot chocolate winner this week.

Our library got bigger. It’s nice to have new books ( SJO is trying to create a whole school libra

ry space so we are all trying to collect in different preloved books to have a good range of titles once the space is organised – Mrs Ross)

Numeracy Homework – we are being challenged to use SUMDOG as much as we can. Aiming for 20-30 mins a week.

Wee reminder

Can homework pack please be returned on Thursdays. We try to sort and organise on a Friday morning so it helps a lot to have the jotters and books back.

Primary 7A Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Here’s what P7A got up to this week in our learning journey:

We now have our roles for Reciprocal Reading of A Monster Calls, with 4 chapters to read for next Thursday where we will complete a task and then share and discuss with our group.

In Numeracy, we have finished up the Fractions part of F.D.P and will move onto Percentages next week. Homework is now through Sumdog which the school has now paid a Subcription for. There was a diagnostic to complete to begin with, where everyone did well, and a Fractions homework task. I have also put up a 100 question bonus task on F.D.P. as some extra practice before the end of topic assessment.

Tuesday was an exciting day with our first visit to St. Margaret’s, where the children got a chance to experience some high school lessons with secondary teachers and get a feel for the building. Everyone was very excited, a little bit nervous but all enjoyed the experience. We began with a swimming lesson, followed by maths and then business. A good start to our transition to high school.

On Wednesday, as part of Burns’ Day, we got the chance tot try some haggis or vegetarian haggis if we wanted to – overall it was a hit with those who tried it and there are some in the class who never want to even smell it again! We had also had two weeks to prepare a poem or song of Robert Burns to perform for the class and everyone did braw! We took videos of our recitals but unfortunately they are too big to upload here, if you send in a usb drive, we’ll send home a copy if your child wanted a video taken.

We have concluded our work on relationships and moral education in the God’s Loving Plan scheme, approaching lessons in a mature and responsible way.

Here are some pupil highlights of the week:

Liam Said, “We went swimming in St. Margaret’s for the first time ever and for a visit. We had haggis for Robert Burns Night and did poems as well.”

Ruqayyah said, “This week we had our first St. Margaret’s transition. We did games for swimming and maths also business. In maths we had to record our strategies for seeing how many ways we can button up a coat. In business we designed our P7 to S1 transition logos on the computers. We also practiced our Burns poems for Burns’ day and recited them in front of the class! I had an amazing week in P7A!”

Millan said, ” I liked when we went to high school and it was fun. We also performed poems on Robert Burns Day, everyone had haggis, neeps and tatties.”

Zahra said, ” I  loved playing Sumdog and doing the diagnostics. I also loved doing the Burns poems.”

This week’s Hot Chocolate at Home winner is…

Millan! Well done, Millan

Have a Great Weekend,

P5B Weekly Blog 27th January 2023

This week we wrote imaginative, narrative stories based on a film clip. Pupils came up with their own ideas about his feelings and activities. In Science we dissected flowers to investigate petals, stems, leaves etc. They glued them into their John Muir Journal as it also linked with John Muirs wonder at nature and how it works all around us. Pupils have been researching lots of different information about John Muir and his work so that they can create a powerpoint or short film which they share with you. Yesterday we enjoyed an orienteering session and look forward to parents taking part at our Assembly in a few weeks.

In Math we are continuing to learn about equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. In measurement we are finding the perimeter of shapes and knowing about decimals help us to add the measurements together. We hope everyone has a great weekend and are able to get out and explore the local area.
