P5A weekly update 9th June 2023

Hi everyone,

Callie and Max here!

This week in P5A we have been learning more about algebra. We have developed lots more skills and we have found that algebra has been really fun!

Here are P5A’s favourite parts of the week:

Vijval: I liked doing maths outside on Monday. We were using our knowledge of seconds and minutes to help us.

Bentley: I liked doing the house groups on Thursday because we decorated masks for a competition.

Ayden: I liked P.E. on Friday because we played the weakest gazelle!

Emili: I also liked P.E. on Friday because I got 2 flags over the line and my team won 5 out of 6 rounds!

Jacob: I liked R.E. this week. We were learning about prophets and the characteristics and qualities of a prophet.

Emily and Callie: I liked meeting my new teacher this week! We were so excited to see Miss MacGregor and we can’t wait to have her next year!  Some of us even had a sneaky visit to our new classroom and we are just so excited to be in P6!

Eilidh: I liked doing science outside on Wednesday! We were learning all about the nervous system and created our own life-size human body, with a brain, spinal chord and nerves (these all make up the nervous system).

Miss Ventisei: I loved planting during outdoor learning this week! We are *very nearly* finished planting all of the plants we received. We have all worked so, so hard to keep the plants alive and well!

This week our Hot Chocolate winner was Carina. She was spotted helping around the classroom lots and was very kind and caring towards younger pupils during our House Group time.

Thank you for another great week P5A! Enjoy the sunshine this weekend, but stay safe!

P4b weekly blog post 09.06.23

We’ve had another fun week learning about bees.  We learnt about the importance of pollination and how the process works.  We enjoyed making pipe-cleaner bees and making them fly from flower to flower, and seeing how different colour powder paints were transferred between each of them.

We finished capacity and moved on to angles in maths.  We learnt about right-angles, obtuse and acute angles, as well as the different points on the compass.  We linked our understanding to clocks, thinking about clockwise and anti-clockwise.

In Spanish, we learnt about La Familia.  We were very good at remembering all of the different vocabulary, including whether they were male or female.

Here are some of our highlights:

Layla: I enjoyed making the little bees and dipping them in the flowers.

Matteo: I enjoyed learning about angles (right angles, acute angles and obtuse angles).

Dhanvi: I enjoyed the pollination lesson because it was so fun.

Feranmi: I enjoyed voting in our houses and also enjoyed making the masks.

Well done to Ishani, our hot chocolate winner this week.

We’re all looking forward to our trip on Monday.  Please remember to wear your school jumper, and to bring a packed lunch, drink and snack.  It is forecast to be warm, so please also bring sun cream and a sunhat.  An extra bottle might also be a good option!  There is also the chance of rain, so a light anorak that can be stored in a backpack when not in use would be great too.

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Mrs Brown

P4a 9th June 2023

It has been a very busy week in P4a. Miss Kelly has been teaching us about poetry and we started writing a poem about Summer. We also talked about using money and coins. Miss Kelly gave us things to sell and coins to try to buy things. Mrs Ross was the bank manager of the Bank of P4.

We are learning about bees and how they are important to us. In the woodlands we pretended to be little bees and visited paper flowers for pollen. It helped us see how the pollen moves from one plant to another. We were pollinators.

The children who have made their First Holy Communion have been practising their prayers for the Thanksgiving Mass on Sunday.

It is also very exciting because we are going on our trip on Monday.

Mrs Ross wants us to remember to wear our school jumper if we can and bring a raincoat and a hat. We also need to remember to bring a packed lunch!

P6B – Friday 9th June

Dear P6B families,

It’s Miss MacGregor again for this weeks blog!

What an exciting week we have had with meeting our new teacher for P7 and presenting our house captain speeches. I am incredibly proud of everyone – they did a fantastic job after weeks and weeks of hard work and preparation.

Along side of all the exciting activities, we have been busy recapping some key skills from across the year. We have looked at symmetry and the Fibonacci Sequence in nature (I have included some pictures below of our findings!) Keep an eye out for what else you can see when you are out and about.

We also brushed up on our understanding of regular and irregular polygons and looked at applying our reading strategies for a visual text. For R.E, we explored ‘The Story of the Naming of the Animals’ in Genesis and then reflected upon the benefits of and our dependence on animals.

The new school captains for next year (Urwa and Patrick from 6A) got a taste of their new roles when they took over for P7 in the lunch hall and helped out Mrs Timmins. This was a lovely opportunity for them.

Well done to Siddharth for being the hot chocolate winner this week – Siddharth was very resilient when it came to presenting the house captain speeches.

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Miss MacGregor

P5B Blog 9th June 2023

This has been another very busy week. As part of our learning about Children’s Rights we focussed on child labour in its many forms around the world. Over 170 million children under 16 work full time and receive no education. We had interesting discussions and created posters opposing child labour.

Article 32 Child labour – Governments must protect children from economic exploitation and work that is dangerous or might harm their health, development or education. Governments must set a minimum age for children to work and ensure that work conditions are safe and appropriate.

Article 35 Prevention of sale and trafficking -Governments must protect children from being abducted, sold or moved illegally to a different place in or outside their country for the purpose of exploitation.

Global goal 8 (8.7) Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labour in all its forms.

The children finished their letters to their new teacher and on Thursday morning the children found out that their teacher next year was a lovely new teacher Ms Mushet and Mrs Callaghan. They were able to discuss things that concerned them and what they were looking forward to. We are hopeful that Ms Mushet will be able to come in and visit the class in a few weeks. Also on Thursday afternoon we had House Groups where the Primary 6 pupils presented their speeches to become House Captain or Vice Captain next year in Primary 7. They were all wonderful and we should hear the results soon.

Next week we are looking forward to having a fire in the woodlands to cook and eat our vegetables with some of the herbs we have been growing. I even heard a rumour there may be some marshmallows and hot chocolate. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

P3A – WB 29.05.23

Dear Readers,

We hope you have enjoyed your week and have been enjoying this sunny day as well.

It was a pleasure having had the opportunity to catch up with so many Parents and Carers during the week.

In P3A our highlights of the week were:

  • Our new spelling words of the week, their practice and our weekly spelling assessment.
  • The fabulous class recount about the P3 Assembly, where you can read about all the things that happened.

Here is a copy for you to take a look at, since we are very proud of it!

Recount P3A collective work

  • The Maths work on greater than, less than, equal to that we are going to make even more challenging next week by comparing fractions.
  • The outstanding work that is being developed about the Rights of the Child to be displayed in our school’s Rights Respecting Wall in a couple of weeks and that is already looking super!
  • In order to have things ready for Parents and Carers to see, we had to have many things handed out by our amazing class helpers and we also had to tidy up and organise our trays which is always very good!
  • The Music story Midsummer  Night’s Dream was the chosen one and we absolutely loved it!

Because we were too busy at the end of the day we didn’t have enough time to find the Winning House of the Week or the Hot Chocolate but will let you know about this next week, don’t worry!

Wishing you a lovely Sunday, we say goodbye for now.

Mrs Valente and P3A😘😘

P1B Learning Highlights 2nd June 2023

Another busy week in P1B.  This week we received a letter to tell us the Dragon’s favourite book was about huffing and puffing.  We guessed it was ‘The Three Little Pigs’.  We read the story and sequenced pictures in to the correct order.  We worked in groups of 4 and acted out the story.  We all worked well in our groups and confidently performed for the rest of the class.  We made our own masks as well.  In writing we wrote what happened in the story using picture cues and a word bank.  We are getting very good at writing sentences now.

We made our own house for the pigs using cocktail sticks and marshmallows then we tried to blow them down like the big bad wolf using a hairdryer.

to try and blow We also completed a huff and puff challenge left by the Dragon where we had objects and make them move.  We also read the story of The Three Little Wolves’.

In Numeracy and Maths we continued looking at sharing and division.  We were able to successfully share amounts.  We also had great fun using the Bee Bots.  We programmed in directions and made them move.

In Health and Well Being we discussed the effect exercise can have on the body and discussed how the three little pigs would have felt running away from the big bad wolf.

Our Learning Highlights

Rose ‘I liked doing group work’

Faye ‘I liked acting out the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’

Luca ‘I liked watching the three little wolves’

Martyna ‘I liked writing about the wolf and the pigs’

Khaleesi ‘I liked testing the houses’

Victoria ‘I liked reading books’

Azmeer ‘ I liked when the three little wolves built a cement house’.

Well done to Azmeer  our Hot Chocolate winner this week.

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine!

Primary 4b weekly blog post 02.06.23

Well, we’ve come to the end of yet another busy week!  It was lovely to see so many parents and carers on Tuesday and Thursday and to celebrate all of the brilliant progress the children have made this year.

We’ve been learning about bees this week, and everyone has been so very engaged and enthusiastic!  We’ve learnt about why bees are important, the different types of bees, the life cycle of bees and how bees make honey.  Everyone has had so many questions and been such curious learners!  We’ve presented our work beautifully and particularly enjoyed making mini books to show how honey is made.

We’ve been continuing with measurement in maths, specifically learning about mass and capacity.  We’ve done really well with this topic and are now much more confident at working out the intervals on different scales.

Highlights:

Amelia: I enjoyed doing the how bees make honey mini book because I love the gluing and my partner helped.

Jude: I enjoyed doing bulldog in PE and the bee mini book as well because I enjoyed learning about bees and I like bulldog.

Ishani M: I also enjoyed learning about bees because it was fun to make the books and to talk to different people about it.

Well done to Maeve, our hot chocolate winner.

Have a lovely weekend everybody!

P5A weekly update: 2nd June 2023

Hi everyone, Ayden and Lili here!

On Monday we all had fun with PE outside. We played capt

ure the flag.

On Tuesday we enjoyed Reciprocal Reading and stations for maths. We have been working on algebra and 24hr time this week!

On Wednesday, the whole class went outside for ERIC because it was really nice weather, we really liked that! We also worked in groups to design and paint our very own sustainability banner! We were so creative and worked really well collaboratively.

Our favourite moment of Thursday was planting for outdoor learning. Emily soaked Francesca (accidentally!) with her watering can! We prepared the ground and continued on with our planting from last week. The garden is looking so much better!

Today we worked hard on our Article of the week noticeboard art. It is our turn to transform the Rights Respecting Schools noticeboard and we were tasked with Article 29. This is the goals of education. This means that education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

At the end of the week we also reflected on how we were successful learners, responsible citizens, effective contributors and confident individuals this week. We put our answers in a form on the iPad.

We also went out to play a fun maths relay-race game in the sunshine.

Here are our favourite moments of the week:

Lili- My favourite part of the week was planting because we got to go outside in the hot air.

Ayden- My favourite part was PE because we got to play capture the flag.

Farrah and Emily- We enjoyed playing pull over the line and splat because it is really funny when you fall.

Bentley- My favourite part of the week was when we played football because my team won.

Nikola- I enjoyed ERIC outside because it was really nice weather and we got to have some fresh air.

Vijval and Tyler- We enjoyed planting because Max got his leg soaked.

Miss Ventisei- I enjoyed doing our 12 and 24hr time practice outside and seeing everyone so involved and happy when outside planting.

Here are some of our pics:
