P4a Update – 16.12.22

A busy week working in our topic groups. We have been learning about cooperation and compromise. Some have found it tricky to share all the tasks and everyone has had to be extra patient and try extra hard to listen to each other. The groups have done some wonderful work on their challenges. Choosing a group name, designing a shield, building model castles and working together to cut and put together  a card castle and its towers. We took some great photos of our work.

We have been painting some blocks of wood to create a surprise. (HM)

We finally finished our castles. It was great and I was relieved to finish it. My favourite part was creating the drawbridge. (IS)

We have been doing our Jesse Tree stories and we are almost finished them. My favourite is probably number 4. The story of Noah’s Ark. (MM)

The Jesse Tree tells us about Jesus’ ancestors and all about our history as God’s people. (SR)

Today we have had crazy hair day and I sprayed it with 2 colours. (SF)

On Tuesday we had christmas jumper day and had an excellent Christmas lunch. (SF)

Other Groups will be posted next week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

P7a Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

A busy week of National Assessments this week, all P7s in Scotland complete these standardised assessments, though at different times throughout the year, and they give some insight on how our children are progressing and any areas of development needed to work on before the transition to high school. When assessments are fully completed by the whole year group, I’ll share results with the pupils and look into the best way to share with parents.

After finishing our Reciprocal Reading Novel ‘Skellig’ by David Almond we watched the film and discussed similarities and differences between the film and book. The overall consensus was that the class enjoyed the movie more as it was easier to understand/follow than the book.

Christmas Lunch was on Tuesday this week and we had a Christmas themed murder mystery/problem solving activity in maths.

On Friday, we had a Class Advent Prayer Service after PE before we had a quiz with Miss Davis as it is her last day today. We have very much enjoyed learning with her over the last 10 weeks and will miss all of her help and exciting and interesting lessons.

This week’s Hot Chocolate at Home winner was…

Primary 5B weekly blog 16th December 2022

This week we explored Article 14 (freedom of thought, belief and religion) We discussed why it is important for every child to havethe right to think and believe what they choose and also to practise their religion. We also discussed why Governments must respect the rights and responsibilities of parents to guide their child as they grow up. We created interesting artwork to show our understanding.

In math we have been practising our numeracy strategies and working on our times tables knowledge. We have also been measuring different size angles using a protractor and compass.

This week we wrote an imaginative story about walking through a Magic Door.

In Science we have been learning about Electricity and building Electrical Circuits.  We investigated conductors and insulators, static electricity, drawing and building electrical circuits to light bulbs, create sound and movement. In art lessons we had good fun creating some winter sketches of snowmen and penguins. We practised some different Christmas songs this week.

P2B Week Beginning 5th December 2022

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Green Table:

Lewis loved our Christmas concert on Wednesday.  He was so happy that his parents were able to make it and enjoyed decorating the gingerbread men together and making the bauble.

Amariah-Grace liked writing about a raindrop’s adventure as it moved through the different stages of the water cycle.  We had some creative ideas involving a raindrop falling onto roof tops, puddles, children’s hair, dog’s noses….

Evana said the best part of her week was when Mrs McLaughlin put a Christmas movie on for the children to enjoy on Thursday afternoon.

Olivia  liked our Word Boost story ‘Owen and the Mountain’.  We will not have any new Word Boost stories now until the new year.

Theo said learning about words that have ‘ff’ at the end was what he remembered enjoying this week.

Mrs Devlin’s favourite part of the week was of course, like Lewis, our Christmas Concert.  The children did so well remembering all the words and actions.  I was so proud of everyone!

Congratulations to Ciara, our Hot Chocolate award winner this week!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.  I know we have a cold week ahead.  If you are sending in any hats, scarves and gloves, can you please label them with your child’s name to ensure they can be returned to them if they get misplaced.  Thank you.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 9th December 2022

We have been practising very hard for our Nativity show next week. We have been singing very loud! We even got to sing one of our songs at the Blessing of the Crib with Fr Simon.

In Science, we have been learning about Robots and we got to use the Beebots. We had to code them to get them to work. It was great fun watching the Beebots move across the floor.

Our new topic is all about Toys. We had to sort the toys into Indoor Toys and Outdoor Toys.

We learned the sounds ‘r’ and ‘v’ this week. In writing, we wrote about what we would do if we were stuck in a snowglobe.  We read the story ‘Snowmen at Night’ and we made our own snowmen pictures using paper. They were looking up into the sky to try to catch the snowflakes.  On Thursday when it started to snow, we went out into the playground to try to catch the snowflakes!

Some of our personal highlights this week are

Lillian – I enjoyed throwing the snowballs when it was the right sound. We even got to throw them at Miss Stebbing!

Summer Rose – I liked catching the snowflakes on my tongue.

Olga – I enjoyed throwing the snowballs at Literacy time.

Vasilisa – I enjoyed making the snowman.

Alexander – I enjoyed playing.

Connor – I liked throwing the snowball when I heard the sound ‘v’.

Miss Stebbing -I was very impressed with the snowman art that everyone made this week. Everyone listened well to the instructions and produced some great pictures.

Congratulations to this week’s Hot Chocolate Winner who is Eve!
