P2B Week Beginning 22nd May 2023

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Green Table:

Musa said that he liked making a skeleton in the woods.  The children worked in groups to build a skeleton.  This was part of our learning about the human body.  The success criteria was: 2 bones for each arm and leg, ribs, spine and skull.

Sofia loved making a stomach.  We have been learning about the digestive system this week and then made our own stomachs using a bag, crackers and juice (to represent stomach juices).   Lots of, “ewhhhh” filled our classroom that day.

Olivia really liked playing ‘Duck Duck Goose’.  We went outside on Thursday afternoon to take refuge in the shade from the trees to cool us down, as the classroom was very hot that day.  After finishing our classroom novel there, we had a quick game before home time.

Eli  felt proud when we used his candy idea for our phonics lesson.  Thank you to all the children who submitted an idea for their literacy homework.  We used 3 of them this week for our ‘oy’ sound and will use the other 4 next week for our ‘ear’ words.

Ishaan thought that our class novel, The Magic Finger, was his favourite part this week.  Reading this has also been my highlight Ishaan!  The children were horrified to learn that The Gregg family hunted ducks!

Congratulations to Olivia, our Hot Chocolate award winner for this week and to Ishaan, our Reading Champion!

I look forward to welcoming you to our Parent Consultations on Tuesday or Thursday of next week!

P3A – WB 15.05.23 and 22.05.23

Dear Readers,

We hope you are all very well.

These are the highlights of the last two weeks:

  • In order to be ready and amazing for our Endangered Animals Assembly, we have spent much time practising and practising! But it was definitely worth it, what a beautiful assembly it was! The whole school were very proud of P3s, well done!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍
  • We have had the opportunity to learn about the Ascension of Jesus and some of us went to Mass to celebrate it, which was very important!
  • Still regarding RE, we have learned about Our Lady of Fatima and the three little shepherds, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. All were delighted to watch a small clip with the story of the Miracle of the Dancing Sun, which happened the last time Our Lady of Fatima appeared and which was seen by around 70000 people at the time, on the 13th of May of 1917. When we finished, we also got to follow a tutorial to draw our own interpretations of the Miracle of the Sun and they are simply adorable!
  • Although we didn’t have a full week, we have restarted our routine the best we could with our new spelling words, spelling practice and, of course, weekly spelling assessment! Not the best week so we will need to work harder…😊
  • In maths, we have continued working with fractions, more specifically, placing fractions on a number line, and ended the week with an amazing timed interactive challenge where we had to place several sets of fractions in number lines in less than a minute! We loved it!😁
  • It was also very interesting answering to our Reading comprehension about our topic and learning even more about how to make a Recount.
  • The week ended with our Free Writing Friday and with Reward Time to all those who have been amazing at following the school rules of being Ready, Respectful and Safe all the time! It was great for them being taken to the area by Mrs Callaghan to play and have fun and we hope that next week many more of us will manage to go as well!🎉🎉🎉🎉
  • Many congratulations to Our dear Hot Chocolates, Miss Ella and Miss Zosia!🎈🎈🎈🎈🏆🏆🥇🥇They were both excellent and have set wonderful examples for all of how to follow the school rules at all times while having lots of fun! Well done to both!🥰👏👏👏👏

Supergirls!

Congratulations too to our Reading Champion of the Fortnight, our dear Mr David S!😀👏👏🥇📚

We also congratulate our winning house of the week, Ravenclaw, for their big efforts! Well done, Ravenclaw!👏👏👏🏆🎈

We say goodbye for now wishing you a lovely and sunny weekend!

Mrs Valente and P3A😘😘

P5A weekly update: 26th May 2023

Dear parents and families,

We have had yet another super week with lots of lovely sunshine!

Here are some of our class highlights from the week!

Ayden said that his favourite part of the week was going out to do the Daily Mile. It was lovely weather this week so we enjoyed running off some energy on the field! Miss Ventisei also loved racing P5A… she was (marginally!) beaten each time!

Weronika enjoyed learning about Article 15 as part of our Article of the Week. This article relates to freedom of association. We discussed what this means and arranged ourselves around the room to demonstrate our thoughts on the importance of children having plenty of opportunities to meet, spend time together and share ideas. Miss Ventisei was very impressed with the wonderful and insightful reflections offered.

Jacob said he enjoyed R.E. this week. As it is still the month of May we have continued to learn about Mary. This week, we finalised all of our discussions and learning from the month with a blether stations activity. We enjoyed working in pairs to find all of the different blether stations around the classroom.

Eilidh said she enjoyed writing this week. We finalised our exposition writing topic by choosing our favourite piece of writing from the month and typed a finalised edit with lots of uplevelled vocabulary and persuasive language. We did an excellent job!

Julia and Emili said they loved maths! We have been learning about data handling and how we might represent different types of data. We loved sharing some ideas about jobs that use data and charts on a daily basis (we discovered that even teachers use bar charts and tables!!) and created our own on an excel spreadsheet. To gather our data, we listened to a few chart songs and each chose our favourite- Harry Styles was the class winner! Emili said she loved continuing her learning within algebra. We have been solving tricky two-step problems to find ‘x’ and we have loved using games and our favourite ‘question spinning wheel’ on the iPads to help us! Some of us have even made up our own algebra question and answer sheets at home as voluntary additional homework! Well done P5A, I am so proud of you!

Leo said his favourite part of the week was science. We continued our research about the digestive system and we are now well on our way to finishing our information posters!

Lili and Farrah said that they enjoyed learning about the time in Spanish this week! We have been singing along to a very catchy song and rap to help us remember!

Vijval and Dawid enjoyed outdoor learning on Thursday. We worked really hard to prepare the soil and planted lots of wild flowers and plants in our school garden. We can’t wait to see our hard work come to life when the plants and seeds start to grow!

This week our Hot Chocolate winner was Jacob. He received lots and lots of class nominations as a pupil who was demonstrating lots of kindness and helpfulness throughout the week and Miss Ventisei noticed this too! Huge congratulations to Jacob and a big well done also to lots of other pupils who were nominated by their peers.

Thank you for another excellent week P5A, I am so proud of you. Have a lovely weekend (with hopefully more sunshine!).

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 26th May 2023

This week we have been reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We had to make a basket with lots of healthy food for Granny so that she could get better. For writing, we made Get Well Soon Cards to cheer Granny up.  The dragon left us a task to sort medicines and things that were not medicines. We had a great discussion about keeping safe with medicines. Our castle books are getting really full now!

In maths, we have been practising our subtraction and time to half past.  We learned about quarters and we made a jam sandwich that we cut into quarters. Then we had a picnic outside. The sandwiches were delicious.

P2B Week Beginning 15th May

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Red Table:

Reesa said the best part of her week was her visit to St Peter’s Church to celebrate ‘Ascension Thursday’, when Jesus ascended into Heaven.  She enjoyed the songs.

Amy has continued to enjoy learning her 5 Times Table.  The children have been learning to make links with division by 5 also.

Emily-Ann has loved art this week.  As part of our topic, Space, the children have been learning about the first moon landing.  We watched it on Youtube  and all pretended to be Neil Armstrong, saying (with an American accent), “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”  Afterwards, we created our own moon landing pictures.  We drew around a circle template, had the choice of using an oil or soft pastel to colour the moon and then using a printing technique, added craters.  Some children created their craters using scrunched up tinfoil and others using bubble wrap.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwZb2mqId0A

Georgia Rose liked learning body parts in Spanish.  We have been learning about different parts of the body and their functions this term.  The children said they would like to know the names of some body parts in Spanish.  One of these suggestions was ‘bladder’.  There was lots of giggles as they asked if they could go to the toilet to empty their ‘vejiga’ (va-he-ya).

Isabella recounted that she liked learning our new sound ‘ar’ and made links with the planet Mars.

Mrs Devlin’s favourite part of the week was when we walked home from Church.  The sun was shining and the children were singing hymns.  It was very peaceful!

Congratulations to Eli, our Hot Chocolate award winner for this week!
