P4B Weekly Highlights – 7th November 2025

Big hello to P4B families,

Our classroom has been full of creativity, collaboration and magic this week!

In literacy, we have started our learning of descriptive writing and were writing about the features of a castle. For spelling we focused on silent b and k words. To develop our comprehension work, we looked at how to write a good answer to questions by using the key words in the question.

In maths, we were jumping in 50s, 20s and 25s. In beyond number, we started our topic of money and made different amounts with a combination of different coins. We also created posters about ‘Building Thinking Classrooms’ approach to maths: why we do it and the skills we are developing.

Pupil Highlights:

Hameedah enjoyed creating stained glass windows during topic time.

Cemre loved created a portrait of the P4B queen (Miss Mushet) with a lovely glittery dress.

Abdul and Vedansh have enjoyed taking part in bench ball and capture the flag.

Miss Mushet’s Highlight:

I really enjoyed learning more about Building Thinking Classrooms on my course and sharing it with the class.

P1A Weekly Highlights 7th November 2025

Another busy week in P1A.  This week we learned the sounds k and ck we practised writing the sounds and could recall words that have the sound.  We also wrote a sentence using our sounds. We are continuing to learn all sounds and common words taught so far.

In maths we looked at facts to 5 and completed a fireworks addition sheet.  We also played a dice game to add dice together and colour the number.  We used the Numicon shapes to help us see the number facts within 5.  We also looked at the number 17 practising how to write it and what 17 actually looks like using cubes, ten frames and Numicon.

We read a story about Bonfire Night and spoke about how to be safe.  We sorted pictures into safe and not safe and also made a ‘Keep Back’ poster.  We used chalks and oil pastels to create firework pictures. They are displayed outside our classroom.

We learned about All Souls day and we decorated candles to remember our loved ones who have died.  They are displayed in our classroom.

We spoke about our new topic Transport – what we already know and what we would like to find out.  We sorted different Vehicles into road/air and water.

For Outdoor Learning we went into the playground with P1B. We learned how to make sparks with the flints. We all showed confidence and perseverance with this task and everyone said it was one of their highlights of the week.

P3 Week Beginning 3rd November 2025

Hello P3 families!

Here are this week’s learning highlights from The Red Pandas:

Leighton  and Daniel said they loved making the instructional drawing firework picture and choosing a sound word for the inside of their firework.  Some onomatopoeic words suggested were: boom, crack, fizz, pop, bang, zip….

Tyler T said the highlight of his learning this week was our work about the long u sound oo/ew/u_e.  The children drew pictures to match a story which had many of these long u sounds within it, looked up recipes for our own cookbooks and some children used blocks to recreate pews within a church!

Maja loved the story of  Zacchaeus as part of our learning about God’s forgiveness.  We acted out the story in groups.  We learned that when we ask for God’s forgiveness, we can change, like Zacchaeus did!

Dawid loved learning about Ancient Roman Numerals.  He won a prize for the neatest work!  We were very interested to learn why Kings and Queens still use Roman Numerals today as part of their title.  We researched this in non-fiction books and online and found out that it is to show their Royal lineage.

Nathan LOVED tasting honey today.  This experience will kick start our learning about honeybees next week as we study a descriptive piece on these important creatures.

Laaibah and Viaan enjoyed learning basic hockey skills.  The children held the bat correctly and manoeuvred the hockey ball between cones.

Amelia said the best part of her week was assembly about the important work the charity, Missio do; children helping children around the world.

My highlight this week was seeing how enthusiastic the children were when we were learning about Roman Numerals and the rich discussion we had about what the letters represented and the links to addition.  Some children recognised that they had clocks at home with Roman Numerals on them and how they couldn’t wait to tell their parents what these letters represented and why.

Just a reminder to respond to the message from the school regarding our new homework starting next week.  If you choose to ‘Opt-in’, be sure to look out for this new homework in your child’s homework pack on Tuesday.

I hope you enjoy the weekend.

Best wishes,

Mrs Brown

p5a Learning Highlights Week Beginning 3.11.25

Numeracy Highlights: We continued working in symmetry this week. We had to draw our initials on squared paper and draw the reflected image on a vertical and horizontal axis of symmetry.

We also had to find the missing numbers on a number line from 0 to 1,000,000.

Literacy : We have started our new writing unit – The Information Report. For our first task, we had to identify the audience, key facts , and the purpose of an information report. We had a great discussion about whom the audience might be for the examples of information reports we were using. Our audience was not going to be ‘ people’ or  just ‘ kids’. We came to understand that we had to be specific about the age of our audience and for these texts, our audience could also be teachers looking for good examples!

Pupil Highlights:

Grace – I liked doing enterprise it was so much fun, we got to work as a team it was so much fun.

Tiwa: I liked doing the clay beause it was so much fun to create stuff.

Deveena-symmetry because she loved doing symetry

Aadya loved doing information reports especially discussing whom the audience might be.

Hasika- liked doing the clay art thing because it was fun to test my creativity.

Teacher Highlights:

I am so proud of how committed every group is in creating their products for the enterprise. We are working so hard as a team, sharing resources and perseverance. It is a joy to have such a creative  and responsible class this year.

Primary 1B Learning Highlights 7th November 2025

This week we have been learning all about Bonfire Safety. We read the story ‘Firefighter Fred’s Bonfire Night Safety Show’ and then completed a quiz about what we had learned. We got all the answers correct! We then learned about stop, drop and roll and we all demonstrated this perfectly. We talked about phoning 999 in an emergency. We produced some beautiful digital art on Seesaw and make our own fireworks by cutting tissue paper.

In Literacy, we have been learning the ‘k’ and ‘ck’ sounds. We know that ‘ck’ comes at the end or the middle of a word and we practised spelling words with this sound on Seesaw. We made Bonfire Safety Posters in writing and produced some detailed drawings.

In Maths, we have been learning about addition. We have been focusing on number bonds of five and we are becoming more confident with this.

In RE, we learned about All Soul’s Day and made some beautiful candles for a display.

For Outdoor Learning we went into the playground with P1A. We learned how to make sparks with the flints. We all showed confidence and perseverance with this task.
