P6 – WB 22.09.25

Dear Readers:

We hope you are all well.

This week has been shorter but we have still worked very hard! Here are the highlights chosen by us:

  • Art and Craft activity about Vikings’ axes and throwing them in the Woodlands. This was an amazing collaboration between P3 and P6B. We helped them to build their axes on Tuesday and on Wednesday we all went to the woodlands to throw them and see how far they would go! It was lovely to see the way children worked together, helping each other and celebrating their achievement! Super! Everyone loved this! 😍
  • Writing session, where we had to write a narrative about a Rescue in the mountains, based on the model given of a Rescue at sea. Lots of inspiration!😊
  • Gardening – Our school’s garden is looking nicer and nicer thanks to our huge efforts and we feel very proud of our work to make our school even better! After removing thousands of weeds, we have even managed to start planting some new bulbs to bloom when Springtime arrives!🌿🌱
  • PE – we have been enjoying the presence of St. Margaret’s Sports Leaders to teach us football on Tuesdays and Thursdays! It’s been a lot of fun and we are going to miss them when they are gone, which will be from the 8th of  October.⚽⚽⚽🙁
  • The Upper Area Religious Service we had about St. Vincent de Paul and what we have learned about his life. Very surprised to find out that he changed into a kind, caring and selfless person after having been so selfish for such a long time. As the children said “People can change!”❤️
  • House Groups are always an opportunity to meet other children from school and since we are P6 we get to look after the younger ones and have been brilliant at that!😍
  • French  – We had a really interesting lesson where we had to apply our knowledge of the numbers up to 50 to solve maths sums! Super!😊
  • To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight we started our amazing posters and are looking forward to having them ready!🍌🍫
  • St. Peter’s children loved their double break for having won this week! Well done!🥇
  • Well done to our Hot Chocolate of the week, Vinayakarthik! Super duper good behaviour, always ready to learn and always ready to help! 🏆🥇
  • Another well done goes to Addison, our Reader Champion of the fortnight! 📚Just don’t forget to close the books when it is lesson time!😊
  • Last but not least, congratulations to The winning Table of the week for going over and above with cleanliness, tidiness and for trying to improve their behaviour! Super Sean, Super Adya, Super Anthony and Super Aadhya!🏆🥇🥇🥇🥇

That’s all for this week, we say goodbye wishing everyone a great week ahead!

P3 Week Beginning 22nd September 2025

Hello P3 families!  Here are our highlights this week from The Ferrets:

Eliza enjoyed House Groups this week.  Each child joined the rest of the school and broke up in to their House Group (St Peter, St Francis or St Teresa)This time, the groups were thinking about the different ways brains work and what can support us to learn i.e. some children identified that fidget toys help them to stay focused, some liked pictures to accompany instructions etc.  We discussed what an inclusive classroom looks like and what more could your teacher do to support you.

Sophia liked our phonics lesson this week, focusing on the long i sound.

Matteo said the learning he enjoyed most this week was when we finished our story writing of recounting the Viking myth of how Odin created the world.  We talked about the Describing Bubble and had the challenge of including as many describing words as we could.  The children did very well!

Ollie and Ellie have both picked our class novel, Thorfinn the Nicest Viking.  We heard how in the past, carrier pigeons used to carry messages from one place to another.  The children have expressed an interest in learning more about this.

Izhaan and Tyler T loved making Viking axes with our P6 helpers from Mrs Valente’s class and throwing them in the woods to practise their aim.

Joseph said his highlight was our nature walk where we collected moss, twigs, leaves and pebbles for the bug hotels that some of us made for taking care of God’s creation.

Vihaan loved it when we made our bug hotels and bird feeders.  I was so impressed with the creativity the class showed that we invited Mrs McLaughlin to see them before they went home.  She too was very impressed!  A big thank you to our pupil support worker, Mrs Garvin who was a big help supporting us.

My highlight matches Matteos!  Well done everyone for your efforts in story writing this week!  I am sure your parents are going to be impressed when they read it at our upcoming Parent Consultations.

A big congratulations to Oscar for being this fortnight’s Reading Champ!

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend, despite the rain.

This week in P1a

Another week of fabulous learning from P1A.

We continued our learning about our senses by focusing on smell. We had so much fun smelling different scents and trying to guess what they were. We listened to the story Pirate Pete and his Smelly Feet, discussing what happened at the beginning, in the middle and at the end, and sequenced pictures.

This story fitted in perfectly with our sound of the week ‘p’. We learned how to write p, thought of lots of words beginning with ‘p’ and focused on our cutting skills to make crafts for pigs, penguins and peacocks. We loved becoming pirates in P.E and playing lots of games thinking about using space and moving different ways.

In maths we continued practising formation of numbers and different ways to make numbers. We also recapped our learning on 2D shape, making a fantastic shape monster before learning about 3D shapes. We investigated whether 3D shapes could roll, slide and stack and also used playdough and cocktail sticks to make our own 3D shapes.

A highlight for most this week was walking to the local park with our buddies for outdoor learning. It was lots of fun.

Primary 1B Learning Highlights 26th September 2025

This week we have been taking part in Maths Week Scotland. We read the book ’10 Dogs’ and used sausages (not real ones!) to make the bonds of 10. The next day we read the book ‘The Perfect Fit’ and learned all about 2D shapes. We made our own shape monsters which was really fun.

In PE, we became Pirates and we had to run and pick up the treasure and put it in the correct treasure chest. We then had to run between the sharks (cones) and not get gobbled up!

In Literacy, we have been learning the sound ‘p’. We were able to think of lots of different things beginning with p and we have been practising writing the letter using the correct formation. We listened to the story of ‘Pirate Pete and his Smelly Feet’. We then had to order the pictures correctly to show the beginning, middle and end of the story.

We have been learning all about our sense of smell in Science. We discussed things we could and could not smell. Then we used the Silly Scent Pens to find scents that we liked or did not like. Miss Stebbing then told us what the scents were. There was one pen that was cheese scented! It was disgusting.

We spent some time with our Buddies on Thursday morning. We walked up to the park and had great fun exploring. We made sure that we didn’t lose any of the P7 Buddies and they all came back to school safely.

Here are some of our personal highlights from this week:

Aayat – I enjoyed making the shape monsters.

Lincoln – I enjoyed learning about the letter ‘p’.

Ignacy – I enjoyed playing with the blocks.

Grace – I enjoyed doing smelling in Science.

Victoria – I enjoyed smelling the pens.

Hanna – I enjoyed learning the common words.

Congratulations to Eloran who is our Hot Chocolate winner this week. He has been using all the Boost Words and trying hard to write letters correctly.

Our Reading Champion this fortnight is Hanna. She has been trying hard to read books during ERIC time.

P3 Week Beginning 15th September 2025

Hello P3 families!  Here are our highlights this week from The Polar Bears:

Maks said the best lesson of this week was PE.  We played a game were half the class sat in a circle with a hula hoop between each person (see photos below) while 2 children from the 2nd half ran around the outside of the circle to music.  When the music stopped, they had to manoeuvre their body through the nearest hula hoop and the first one to grab the cone in the middle, won!  The children really enjoyed this and are eager to play it again.  Next time, not only will they be running but complete different sequences of movements as they move around the circle.

Dawid’s highlight was learning about Viking Gods.  This week we compared our Christian belief of Creation with the Viking mythology of how their God, Odin created the world.  We then began to recount this myth and next week will finish it off.  Here is a link to a BBC video if your child wishes to watch it again: Odin creates the World | Primary English – Viking Saga Stories.

Oscar liked our handwriting lesson.  We have been revising formation of letters before we progress on to joined up letters and do so by grouping them together.  This week we revised those letters that begin with a downward movement.

Daisy loved when we went in to the woodland with magnifying glasses to search for bugs.  This was part of our learning about taking care of God’s world.  Just a reminder that we hope to make a bug hotel or bird feeder next week.  Thank you for your donations so far of the recyclable materials we will need for this (see Seesaw post for specifics).

Umeaz has been enjoying the new class novel, ‘Thorfin the Nicest Viking’.

Vikashni said her favourite lesson was music with Mrs Morrison were the children continued on their music adventure of Treasure Island.

My highlight this week was not only seeing all the children again after my absence (I had a throat infection) but seeing how well they worked as a team to come up with a new name for their reading group.  They were tasked with the challenge of having a Viking themed name.  The final decisions were: The Shields, Odin, The Longboats, Thor, The Vikings, The Axe Throwers, The Brain Crushers and The Settlers.  Look out for your child’s reading book in their homework pack on Tuesday next week (usually Mondays).  This book is for you to enjoy with your child, I will be hearing them read a more challenging book matched to their reading comprehension age in class.  Please return their book on a Friday.  Thank you.

I hope you enjoy the long weekend and I hope to see everyone on our return on Tuesday.

Primary 1B Learning Highlights 18th September 2025

On Monday, we celebrated International Dot Day which promotes creativity. We read the story The Dot and we then used lots of different art materials to create our own dots. We had great fun! We then put them up with the other classes in the infant area to create a display.

In Maths, we have been learning about the numbers 8 and 9. Ask us how we know if a ten frame has nine. We can do this very quickly!

In Literacy, we have been learning about the letter s. We made the letter using our playdough and practised writing it on the tablets. We wrote a sentence beginning with all our common words ‘I can see..’. We used a picture of a farm as inspiration to complete the sentence.

In RE, we have been learning all about the different liturgical colours.

During PE this week we have been learning about moving in different ways. We flew to the moon and became astronauts and we had to walk very slowly. If we fell in a crater we had to crawl and we learned three different crawls. Baby, bear and crab. Ask us to demonstrate these for you! We then did some team relay races using all the different things we had learned.

In Science, we have been learning about our sense of sight. We used our sense of sight to spot the differences in two pictures on Seesaw. We then played a game where 6 different items were on the floor, then  2 people went out of the classroom and Miss Stebbing hid one of the items. We had to look and see which item was missing. It was fun and we got them all right! We then learned about the role of an optometrist and we designed our own glasses.

Here are some of our personal highlights this week:

Freya – I enjoyed using the numicon.

Alfie- I enjoyed doing the letter s.

Tejasvi – I enjoyed making the glasses.

Mikayla – I enjoyed ERIC time.

Carson – I enjoyed making a plane.

Amelia – I enjoyed writing ‘I can see…’

Have a lovely holiday weekend everyone!

Visit of the relics of St Carlo Acutis

I was absolutely delighted to be able to attend the schools Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh with 2 of our P7 Leadership Team.  Each primary in the St Andrew’s and Edinburgh diocese was invited to attend.

Carlo Acutis was an Italian Catholic teenager. He was known for his devotion to the Eucharist and his use of digital media to promote Catholic devotion. Born in London, England, and raised in Milan, he developed an early interest in computers and video games, teaching himself programming and web design and assisting his parish and school with digital projects.  Carlos died at the age of 15 and was canonised on 7th September 2025 by Pope Leo XIV, he is the first millennial saint.

It was a beautiful Mass in the presence of the relics which we were able to pray to before the beginning of Mass.  Our P7 representatives were excellent ambassadors for the school and I am very proud of them.
