P4B

This week P4B worked hard on rounding numbers to the nearest 10 to estimate sums. They also continued their learning of using rulers, metre sticks and tape measures to measure lengths.

They continued to work on making inferences. Using a picture they answered literal and inferential questions with their learning partners. They also thought about Autumn and wrote a fantastic story.

This weeks challenge was to build a boat as another means of the Gingerbread man crossing the river. There was some great co-operative work going on and fantastic designs produced.

P6a Weekly News

P6a have had a very busy week.  Highlights of this week were being recorded by West Lothian Council singing Christmas songs and having our recording viewed by over 300 people on social media!  Also we really enjoyed using our teamwork skills to build models of space stations as part of our current topic.

We attended Blessing of the Crib this morning and sang for the P1, P2 and P3 children.

Next week we are looking forward to Christmas Lunch!

Week beginning 2nd December p3A

This week we have been learning how to sign different Christmas songs and about Christmas celebrations around the world. We have our school elf back for Advent, she is called Sparkle and she brought us some presents. In maths we have been dividing by 2,5 and 10. Ask us all about the strategies we used. Today we are going to the Blessing of the Crib with Fr Simon.

Here are some of our learning highlights.

Josh – I learned about dividing when I was playing the division divers game.

Daisy – I learned how to use the maths buzzers.

Emily – I learned the different signs when we were signing the Christmas songs. I also learned that Santa has 6 white kangaroos (the 6 white boomers) to lead the sleigh. The reindeers get a rest!

Patrick – I learned that some people in China don’t celebrate Christmas and some people in Australia have a picnic on the beach for Christmas dinner.

Aoife – I learned that in Australia Santa wears a T-shirt, shorts and flip flops.  Some people in Australia decorate their whole house and street with lights.

P4a Learning Highlights

Curriculum areas and subjects

In Maths, we were learning about doubling and halving numbers. We also looked at bar graphs and pictograms. We had to read the information on both graphs and answer questions.

In Literacy, we were learning how to use speech marks, commas, exclamation and question marks to show people speaking.

Interdisciplinary learning

We were learning about growth mind set, communication, collaboration and creativity. We know that these skills are important for work.

For our topic, we were learning about the different levels of the ocean.  The first is the Sunlight Zone, then the Twilight Zone, next is the Midnight Zone, then the Abyss Zone and finally the Trench Zone.

In Writing, we were learning how to write an explanation. We had to use paragraphs, instructions and headings. We wrote about how we are going to recycle crisp packets.

The ethos and life of the school

Ruqayyah and Zara asked Mrs McKissack if we could recycle crisp packets. She said yes! Jaagruti, Zahra, Tanvi, Chiedochie, Pardhu and Jakub went round each of the classes to explain how we are going to recycle crisp packets in the school.

Please bring your empty crisp packets in from home so we can recycle them too!

P3B Learning Highlights 29/11/19

This week in P3B we have been learning about St. Andrew to celebrate St. Andrew’s Day. We used what we learned to create a fact file about St. Andrew. We also designed our own tartan and made Scottish kilts for our puppets. In maths we were learning different strategies to do multiplication sums and started to learn about 3D shapes. We used our knowledge of 2D shapes to design a mitten with patterns on it.

Our Learning Highlights:

“I enjoyed doing the mitten. I drew shapes” – Akash

“We learned about St. Andrew and we made kilts. We designed the tartan” – Ali

“To multiply we can do step counting and arrays and we can do any sum at all” – Niamh

“I liked when we were doing the shape hunt. We were looking for 3D shapes around the class” – Urwa

“We were looking at animals that go to sleep in the day and they are awake at night” – Jude
