Hello families of P5B!
Here are our highlights this week as recorded by the Blue table:
Sean and Nicolas both enjoyed playing Halloween musical statues.
Georgia and Addison both liked decorating little oranges to look like spooky pumpkins!
Anthony and Flynn both said the best parts of their week were the 2 times they went to mass. On Wednesday the children received certificates at the church to acknowledge the Child Consecration journey they had participated in. On Friday, Catholic children attended the holy day of obligation, All Saints Day mass.
Scott liked the talk from the fire service about how to keep safe near fireworks.
Olek loved playing Word Boost Corners and won!
Ava said her learning highlight was a lesson about the Day of the Dead with Mrs Broadley.
David enjoyed continuing his learning about the Scottish Wars of Independence. The children had an introduction to the Battle of Falkirk with Mrs Broadley and will continue to learn more about this next week.
My highlight was when a group of Polish children, sang Happy Birthday in Polish to me! It was very special. Thank you boys!
Congratulations to our Michael our hot chocolate award winner and Addison, our reading champion!

Hello P3/2 families!
Here is a summary of our spooky and fantastic week:
P2 focused on suffixes ‘ing’, ‘ed’ and ‘er’ for spelling. P3 focused on the ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ sound. We also practiced our handwriting with the spelling sounds.
In writing, we looked at acrostic poems with Halloween/spooky words and we all did amazing at this!
We looked at halfway points between two numbers in maths using the ‘Building Thinking Classrooms’ strategy writing on whiteboards on the walls. This new approach to learning has sparked curiosity and problem-solving skills in the pupils.
We have begun our journey of preparation to make the sacrament of reconciliation in RE.
We learned about mummification during the Ancient Egyptian times and even got to practice this on one another! (Although the Egyptians would have used a better material than toilet paper). We also ordered the steps of mummification and gained an understanding of the importance of each step. We looked at the canopic jars (where organs were kept) and created these out of playdough during our IDL stations.
It was amazing to see the pupils dressed up spooky on Thursday for Halloween. In the afternoon, we joined the other infant classes to do a variety of different activities. Photos can be found under the blog title “Halloween Fun in P1, P2 and P3”.
I hope everyone had a fun Halloween if you participated!
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Mushet

We have had a very spooky week in Primary 2, with lots of fun Halloween activities taking place!
On Thursday, It was wonderful to see the children all dressed up in their Halloween costumes. We had a fantastic Halloween afternoon with the other infant classes and completed lots of fun activities. Look out for a separate Blog post with lots of photos showing the types of things we got up to.
For writing this week, the children wrote descriptions about their very own Witch. They used lots of adjectives to make their writing more interesting. Here are a few examples of their amazing work:

We have continued to work on addition within 30 in Maths and the children are coping very well with this. We carried out some group problem solving activities on Wednesday which allowed the children to put their addition skills to use.
Learning Highlights
I loved the Halloween colouring in – Matteo
Oscar – I had great fun dressing up for Halloween!
Joseph – I loved the Halloween activities. My favourite was dooking for apples
Rose – I loved writing about a Witch.
Big congratulations to our hot chocolate winner Joesph. Joseph is always hard working, helpful and kind towards others. Well done Joseph!

We found out today that a stopwatch of Mr Pentlands was used over 3025 minutes ago. We worked out that it was used on the last day P3. 126 days ago!
We learned about some Halloween traditions. I found out that pumpkins can be white, green or orange. (AB) we did some Halloween reading. (EAB)
I found it interesting that many years ago they used to dunk people into water to see if they were witches. (BC) We coloured pictures and wrote about Halloween. (CL) Mrs Ogunro taught us about the ‘Day of the Dead’ which is a celebration in Mexico and some Spanish countries. (CF)

This week has been a very exciting week!
We started the week by reading Room on the Broom and we set up different Halloween activities in the classroom. Our favourites have been the potion area and the little pumpkin baskets. We loved filling the baskets with lots of loose parts to pretend they were sweeties.
In literacy, we were learning all about the sound ‘i’. We used the magnetic boards to make words with all the sounds we know. In writing, we took photos pretending to ride on the broomstick and we had to write a sentence about what we had room for on our broom. We used our common words confidently and tried to sound out the words we knew.
In maths, we have continued our work on addition. We looked at the bonds for 7 and we got to write the sums on the teaching table.
In RE, we have learned all about All Saints Day and All Souls Day. We decorated candles to display on the RE wall to remember all the people who have died. We also read the story The Best Diwali Ever and made Rangoli patterns using paper plates and colourful shapes.
On Thursday for Halloween, we spent some time with our buddies and we designed a Halloween costume for Miss Stebbing. There were lots of creative ideas. In the afternoon, we went into group with the other P1, P2 and P3 children to take part in lots of different activities. We enjoyed dooking for apples, playing bingo, dancing, making a pumpkin or ghost craft and going on a scavenger hunt to find Halloween pictures.
Some of our personal highlights this week are:
Dawid – I enjoyed playing with the conkers.
Niamh – I enjoyed writing about Room on the Broom.
Miles – I enjoyed drawing.
Muhammad – I enjoyed reading books.
Vivaan – I enjoyed learning about the letter i.
Freddie – I enjoyed writing about Room on the Broom.
Congratulations to Harrison who is our Hot Chocolate winner this week for trying hard to write a super sentence. Our new Reading Champion is Niamh, who tries hard to read all the common words and reads lots of books during ERIC time. Well done Niamh!
