P6A Learning Highlights 24.1.20

Primary 6A have had a busy week as we continue to get ready for our upcoming Burns Supper next week.

Curriculum Areas & Subjects

In Maths, we completed an assessment to check our knowledge of co-ordinates and angles.  We have also been working on decimals, where we have been introduced to thousandths.

Interdisciplinary Learning

As part of our learning about Robert Burns, we completed a comprehension activity.  We looked at tartan and had a go at designing our own.  We practiced in the hall for our Burns Supper.  In spelling we were learning some Scottish words.

Ethos & Life of the school

We took part in the senior Scottish assembly this morning where we sang “The World Must be Comin tae an end”.  Mrs Egan and Mrs McKissack performed the poem “A Dug a Dug” which was funny.  We liked hearing the performances of the other classes and enjoyed the shortbread that we had as a special treat.

Opportunities for Personal Achievement

Andrew attended Milkshake this week for going over and above in his learning.  Carla has been making clothes this week, and we might get a sneak preview at our Burns Supper.

P3B Learning Highlights 24/1/20

This week in P3B we learned our 3 times table and practiced our other times tables. We also learned to do addition with carrying.

We have been learning our Scots poem The Sare Finger and we learned how to say different body parts in Scots. We performed our poem and signed along to the song “I’m On My Way” by The Proclaimers. We were fantastic!

Our preparation for our Reconciliation has begun. We have all learned about Baptism and our Reconciliation group have started to learn the prayers they will need to know for the Sacrament.

In PE we played chaos tig and played a game where we had to make different letters with our body.

We have been reading Gangsta Granny. It is really funny and gross.

Our Learning Highlights:

“I liked at assembly when we did our signing to I’m On My Way and I was the Granny for the poem” – Niamh

“I am enjoying reading Gangsta Granny. It is really funny and a bit sad.” – Rabail

“When we were doing the 3 times table, at choosing I got to go with Mrs Garvin to practice, it was really fun” – Vivien

“I liked chaos tig during PE and I enjoyed doing the letters” – Naman

“We made puppets at Nurture Group. It was a turtle” – Alex

P1B Post

Week Beginning 13.1.20

P1B highlights:

Reyansh – “Popping bubbles and hitting the balloons in the air was fun.” We welcome our new pupil Reyansh to our St John Ogilvie family and hope he is very happy here and settles in well.  The children were learning about the sound ‘b’ this week.  Each time they popped a bubble they had to say the ‘b’ sound.  We then had a balloon party just for the fun of it!  (Thank you Mrs Lafferty for supplying the balloons!)

Freya – “I liked making boats using 2D shapes.”  The boys and girls have been learning to recognise 2D shapes and their proprieties this week.  We then made boats (linking our phonics) using these shapes.  We could draw them freely, draw around shape templates our use our cutting skills and cut shapes out (or a combination of all).

Matteo – “I liked using sticks in the woods to do our sums.”  On Thursday when we were in the woodlands, we took up some dice, white boards and markers.  We rolled the dice and using natural materials, created sums.  Unfortunately the rain started and began to rub out our create work so we had to abandon this activity and move on to our free play.

Jonah – “Designing dens was good.”  This week P1B have been learning about what it means to be safe.  The children had so many ideas and we put them into a spider diagram.  Next we went into groups and designed dens (cosy and makes us feel safe inside) and presented our ideas to the class.  Great teamwork P1B!

Mrs Devlin’s Highlight – My highlight has to be linked to Jonahs.  The children worked well together and included their groups’ ideas.  We had bunting, plant pots, pillows, ladders and all sorts of imaginative features in our dens.  I was impressed how the children encouraged one another when presenting back to the class.

P1a’s Highlights week beginning 13/1/20

Primary one met the f and the b sound this week and were working hard at counting numbers up to 20, grouping 10 first and then counting the rest. The pupils all listened really well during our number talks and we practised saying how we reached our answer. Sam amazed his teacher by remembering that ‘ feart’ meant scared when we were practising our song for the Scottish assembly coming up.

Highlights from the children:

Hannah: ‘My favourite part of the week was making boats with our buddies’.

Julia: ‘ I liked playing with the blocks’.

Caelan: ‘ I liked playing in the area, playing dogs with Ailsa’.

Aaron: ‘ I liked doing the f and b task today  because Miss Smith was pleased with me because I did it all by myself’.

Ignacy: ‘ I liked practising our Donald Wheres Your Trooser”s’ song.

Sophia: ‘ I liked making the paper boats.’

Ben : ‘ I tidied up so much and actually Miss Smith gave me points for doing that so well.’.

Lily: ‘ I liked playing in the kitchen’.

Mason: ‘  I liked playing with the books outside’.

Pixie: ‘ I liked playing in the house’.

We have been learning about the moon when we read the story “The Man on The Moon – A Day in the Life of Bob”.  We went on an adventure in our imaginations where we put on our spacesuits and explored the moon.  We looked at the character Bob and what he wears, likes and does in his job.

This term, we are using money in our maths lessons and began identifying different coins.

For science, we looked at pushing and pulling as part of a Forces Study.   We sort items into different groups depending on whether they can be pushed or pulled.

We have been looking at the Wellbeing Indicators for our topic and this week looked at how we can stay Healthy.  We have also been practicing for our assembly about this and look forward to sharing with our families.
