Microsoft Teams

There appears to be an issue with Teams this morning.  This is not just for St John Ogilvie.  Please refer to the home learning grids which are stuck into the jotters given out last week.  I will also post these here.

P1 Post 23.3.20

Good morning my lovely boys and girls.  I hope you are all well and have had a nice weekend.  Here is a copy of the learning grid that is in the inside of your school closure jotter to get you started on some learning (some children’s jotters are still at school as they were off).  Will post again at lunchtime.  Hope you have a good day! 🙂

PE Week 1 Primary 1-3

Early Level Fitness Cards PE Circuit Recording Sheet

Hi boys and girls,

I have attached fitness cards which show you how to complete some different exercises.  I would like you to complete this circuit Monday-Friday of this week.  Your challenge is to try to beat your score for each exercise each day however if you cannot beat your score do not worry, it is just a little bit of fun.  If you would really like to set yourself a challenge you can also think about exercising for a longer time for example instead of 30 seconds work for 40 seconds.  Try to set yourself a challenge.  Use the sheet to keep a track of how many of each exercise you can do.

Good Luck!

Mrs Lafferty

P3 Learning Highlights 20th March 2020

This week we have been making Mother’s Day things (shhhhhh!!  It’s a secret!) We made our names in Hieroglyphics on a Cartouche.  Joshua brought in some papyrus and a cat ornament from Egypt to show us.  At PE we played musical corners and Niamh and Myles were the winners.  We watched Go-Jetters episodes about Ancient Egypt and learned some new facts.  Some of the facts we already knew.  We did a maths treasure hunt to find bunny paws with sums written on them.

Some of our personal learning highlights are:

Josh – I learned about Ancient Egypt from the Go-Jetters.

Daisy – I learned how to write my name in hieroglyphics.

Naman – I learned to play musical corners in PE.

Aoife – I had fun making the things for Mother’s Day.

Declan – We worked together as one P3 class this week.

Patrick – We had a party outside at break time.

P1 Visit Deep Sea World

P1 had a super day today at Deep Sea World! The children were fascinated in the tunnel each time a shark swam fast and we sang “Baby Shark” to them. We learned that a star fish has an eye at the end of each of it’s arms and had the opportunity to touch one during our workshop called ‘Plastic, the Sea and Me’. We learned how important it is for us to reuse our plastic water bottles and bags for shopping. We heard sad stories of sea creatures who have died from eating plastic that has found its way into the ocean! The important message was to make sure we recycle all plastic!  The highlight of our visit was watching the turtle and seals get fed.  I hope you enjoy our photos.

P4a Learning Highlights

Curriculum areas and subjects

In Maths, we went over the 3 times table. Some groups continued to use the formal method to multiply. Another group used the formal method to multiply by 6. We also had the opportunity to play a dividing and multiplying game on the laptop (hit the button on Topmarks).

In Music, we learnt another song. We also learnt how to write different rhythms then we had the opportunity to create some with a partner.

The ethos and life of the school

On Friday we had house groups. We were learning about our rights, for example, I have the right to learn. We had to design a person to look like us then write a right beside it.

Opportunities for Personal Achievements

On Friday, we did our class assembly in front of P5, P6 and our siblings. Jaagruti and Zak did a quiz and they did a great job! We sang some songs and shared information about Fairtrade. We were fantastic!

P6A Learning Highlights

P6a have continued with our learning about the human body.    In Numeracy and Maths, we have been learning about percentages with Mrs Morrison and area with Mrs Egan.  We have worked really hard on presentation of our work and Mrs Egan is impressed with the standard of our jotters!

Today, we have been thinking about music to wash our hands to.  We have selected our favourite songs or a well known tune and re-written the lyrics to reflect the importance of washing hands thoroughly.  The highlight was when some of us chose to perform our songs to the class!

P3A Learning Highlights 13th February 2020

This week we learned more about the Egyptians and we listened to how mummies talked.  We learned about what was inside the pyramid so that we can write a story about being inside the Pyramid of Giza.  In art we made ourselves into Egyptian Pharaohs, we used our photograph and oil pastels.  We learned that the nose and beard of the Sphinx fell off and they are now in museums in England and France.  In maths we learned the 4 times table. We learned about the blue cog in emotion works.  We now know this shows ways for us to calm back down.  We learned how to play a new game to help us learn about past, present and future tense.  We practised our spelling skills using a coconut game.  Here is the link.

Some of our personal learning highlights are:

Ronan – I learned about the Egyptian Pharaohs and I liked doing this artwork.

Myles – I liked learning about how the mummies talked.

Adam – I learned that the Sphinx does not have a nose or a beard.

Amelia – I learned how to do the 4 times table.  My strategy is to count up in fours.

Emily – I learned what was inside the pyramid.

Patrick – I learned about how the Egyptians all put make up on.  Their favourite was eye liner.

Aoife – I learned how to play the new Brain Box game.

Elizabete – I learned what was inside the pyramid.

Grant – I liked learning about how the mummies talked.

Sam – I learned that in the Pyramid of Giza there was an unfinished room and I liked learning about the Egyptians.

P7B Weekly Update

This week P7B have been working hard across the curriculum.

As part of our topic, WWII, Mrs Liddell from Museum Services visited both P7 classes and shared lots of stories of what it would have been like during the war.  She passed round artifacts collected from the time of the war and it was really interesting to get to physically interact with items from the past (we had to wear white gloves so the oils from our hands wouldn’t damage them).

Eve said, “It helped me learn more about World War Two.”

“It was fun to find out about what people could eat during rationing,” said Molly.

In maths we have been learning about scale and ratio and making accurate scale drawings.  It has been challenging but linking to fractions and multiplication and division has helped us find success. We have also continued with the RLPS app which helps to put the uses of maths in a real life context.

“We learned about the melting points of metals in Real Life Problem Solving,” said Andrew.

In literacy, we reached a really exciting part of our class novel where the main Character gets into a fight with his nemesis from school.  Using this part of The Machine Gunners, we also completed a HWB task using the Emotion Works cogs which helped us to better understand our own thoughts and feelings – in this case a stressful situation.  We revisited direct speech and will try to apply our learning more consistently when using speech marks in writing lessons.  Our writing lesson this week was a report and we looked at the pros and cons of Evacuation and we had to give our opinion on whether it was a good or bad thing.

“I enjoyed writing the report but found it sad to find out that so many children had bed experiences when they were evacuated,” said Emilia.

P2 Learning

This week P2 have been watching our bread experiment and Lili says “she cant believe there are that many germs growing on the bread”.  The table and floor have the most mould, closely followed by our unwashed hands.

We really enjoyed attending St John Ogilive Feast Day Mass and particularly liked singing the “How great is our God” hymn, which we were very enthusiastic about.

For our house groups, we have been talking about Childrens Rights and were able to say some of the things that we have the right to.  Bentley said “it was really fun and I like working with the bigger boys and girls.

We have been learning the story of Noah’s Ark and made our own arks using paper plates and our cutting skills.

Another busy week next week with lots more learning!
