P4B Wednesday 22nd April

Wednesday 22nd April 2020

Good Morning P4! I hope you all had a relaxing Easter break with your families and you are all safe and well.

Here are some tasks for you to work through this morning:

Mental Challenge

My answer is 47. What could my questions be?
List 8 questions (Using +, -, x and /)

Literacy

Today, we are going to look at Rhyme. A rhyme is when words have a same or similar ending sound, such as boat, moat, throat and coat. When you are trying to figure out if two words rhyme, say it to yourself to see if they sound the same.

-Read the poem ‘Children of the World Today’. What two things do you notice about the poem? Write a list of rhyming word pairs.

-Draw 4 ‘rhyming trees’ each with 5 branches. Using the words home, work, play and eat can you fill each branch with a rhyming word. Try and do this yourself, however if you struggle to think of your own, use Google to look up some ideas. You will use these rhyming trees tomorrow for your writing task, so keep them somewhere safe.

Maths

This term we are going to be learning about Money. Today I want us to think about the use of decimal points when talking about pounds. Look at the Money PPT and complete the ‘Convert Pence to Pound’ sheet. You can complete this in a jotter or on paper.

Remember if you would like me to see your work and to provide feedback, you will need to upload it onto your Personal Learning Blog.

P2 Morning Post – 22.4.20

Good Morning Primary 2,

I hope you are all well and have been managing to enjoy some time outside in the beautiful sunshine.  We have been watching all the little birds in the garden this morning.   We have seen robins, bluetits, magpies, starlings and pigeons.  You should have a look and see what wildlife you can see.  If you open your window or door, you might even be able to hear the birdsong.

Here are your tasks for today:

Primary 7 Wedneaday 22nd April AM

Good morning P7, we hope you have been taking advantage of the nice weather while following the instructions for staying safe.

Today we have a piece of writing to complete.  You have a map which will hopefully give you some ideas as you write a chapter of a book.  Choose one of the titles and use that location as the inspiration for your story.  There is a planning page to help you decide who and what will be in your story.  Try to make it exciting, have a beginning, middle and end. Introduce the characters and location, have a problem occur and then find a solution to it.  Remember VCOP – use ambitious Vocabulary, Connectives other than just and, vary your Openers and don’t forget punctuation! Adding in the 5 senses also help you to add deatil and helps you boost your word count. These mats will help you with different aspects of your story.

Remember, we are looking for paragraphs and the length of your story should be about 1 full page of A4 or about 250 words.

In maths, can you beat your score from the last two days? Lots of improvements being made and some fantastic scores!

We continue with negative numbers, remember that having a number line beside you can be really helpful – if you can print one out that’s great but you can copy one into your jotter too. Remember if you are counting using the number line, you don’t count the number you start from.

Today I’d like you to do some spelling and a maths task.  We will use the spelling challenge cards we use in class and I’ll attach the whole set.  Choose three activities and write/type your words out. You could even be adventurous and try some outside or make up your own activity. I’ll also put a reminder of your group on teams.

Good morning everyone! It was great to see some of your fantastic art work and research posted on your profiles yesterday. You really are becoming independent learners. This morning we are going to do some numeracy and writing activities !

Imaginative writing task.

Look at the images in the writing power point and choose the one which you find interesting as a stimulus for your imaginative story. Think of an appropriate title and try to write an exciting story paying attention to the success criteria outlined below. Let your imagination run wild!  It might be good idea to type your story straight onto your profile as this will make it easier to mark. I am looking forward to reading your completed work.

Success Criteria

  • Use paragraphs.
  • Have a beginning, middle and end to your story.
  • Accurate punctuation
  • Ambitious vocabulary
  • Add enough detail to interest the reader.

Numeracy

The number of the day is   19 877!  There is a mild, spicy or hot activity for numeracy which requires you to use your strategies for addition and subtraction.  Remember to print out the worksheets if possible or neatly copy the calculations into your home learning journal. The answers will be posted in the afternoon, allowing you to check your own answers.

Enjoy your morning!
