P4a- Thursday 7th May- Afternoon Activities

Good afternoon P4a. Here are your afternoon activities.

Task 1 World Fair Trade Day

World Fair Trade Day is on Saturday 9 May 2020. This day is a time to say a big
thank you to all of the farmers and workers who produce our food and drink!

Here is a story you can read: Thank you for the chocolate story. The story will take you on a journey to meet everybody involved in bringing chocolate to our shops, right from the very start of the process in the forests of West Africa.

Your Home Learning Challenge is to design and send a Thank You card to the
farmers and workers who are working hard to provide us with our food and drink at
this time. You can send a picture of your Thank You card to schools@fairtrade.org.uk and it will be digitally sent to Fairtrade organisations across the world!

Task 2 Roman Music

Romans enjoyed listening to and making music. Between banquet courses music may have been played as entertainment for guests.

Your task is to make some shakers.  Use different materials inside the shaker to explore the different types of sounds. Do they make sounds that are high/low loud/soft short/long?

Watch the video clip to learn how to make a shaker https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2Gkf_HFrMM.

Can you make different rhythms with your shaker? Can you listen to a song and play your shaker in time with the beat? You can record yourself playing your shaker and upload it on to your Personal Learning Blog.

Here are the answers to the comprehension task Humpback whales answers and the Maths task Converting 12-24 hour time answers from this morning.

I hope you enjoy the tasks.

Good morning P4!

This morning’s tasks are:

Challenge

Today’s challenge involves following clues to work out the cost of Mrs Meikles shopping.

Money challenge

Writing

Watch the story ‘Out of Sight’ https://vimeo.com/14768689. It is about a little girl who enters an unknown world and unfolds a magical adventure depending on senses other than vision and her imagination.

  1. Write about your own imaginary world, what would it be like? How would you use your senses?
I am looking for – Correct Sentence structure
    A beginning, middle and end
    Ambitious vocabulary
    Use of connectives
  2. Draw a picture of your imaginary world.

Maths

A couple of weeks ago we looked at using a decimal point when making amounts in pounds. Today we are going to use that knowledge to work out amounts of money using a calculator.

It looks like it’s going to be a lovely day so if you would rather spend the day in the sunshine than doing work that’s ok! The weather forecast is for it to get cold and wet again by the weekend so you could make the most of the sunshine while it’s here, just make sure you are wearing sun cream and a sun hat 🙂

Whatever you do, have fun!
