Primary 6 morning post 06-05-20

Good morning everyone!

We hope you had a lovely long weekend spending time with your families and getting lots of fresh air.

This week has a special anniversary in it.  Friday will be the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day which was the start of the process that ended the Second World War (VJ Day will be in August).  We will be learning about why this day was important during this week.

We will start with maths today.  The Number of the Day will be set on teams and we would like you to complete your usual tasks for that then go on to do this maths starter:

Maths Starter 06-05-20-2

There may be a few tricky things for you but we can chat about these on teams later.

Here are your main maths tasks:

Mild Maths Grid Method 6-5-20

Spicy Maths Grid Method 6-5-20

Hot Maths Grid Method 6-5-20

There are extensions included with each task and you can challenge yourself to do more than one if you’d like to.

Our reading comprehension task this week is all about VE Day.  You will learn lots of information through reading the passage carefully and answering the questions (in full sentences).  Choose the task you think will challenge you without being too difficult, maybe read more than one before you decide:

VE-Day-reading-comprehension-Spicy

We look forward to hearing from you on teams this morning but also seeing all the work you upload to your Personal Learning Blog later.

Remember, you do not need to print anything out and you can type on a word or similar document, straight into your PLB or in your home learning jotter and upload a photo if possible.

Marmaduke the Very Different Dragon – Read by Mrs Craig and Family

Good Morning Boys and Girls,

I hope you have all had a lovely holiday weekend!

Today, we are going to read you a story called ‘Marmaduke, the Very Different Dragon’, written and illustrated by Rachel Valentine and Ed Eaves.   It was a lovely, sunny day yesterday so we decided to read the story in the garden.  I hope you are all managing to enjoy some time outdoors too.

Here is the link to the story:

Once you have finished watching the video, maybe you could try to create your own dragon?  Brodie, Rosa and I would love to see them on your learning journals.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the sunshine.

Primary 7 Wednesday 6th May AM

Good morning P7, welcome back, we hope you are ready to jump straight back into your learning.

Today’s Literacy Work:

We are going to continue working on persuasive writing. This will remind you what persuasive writing is.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD9arWXIddM

Today you need to come up with a piece of writing which will persuade your family to give you twice as much pocket money.

You need to use clear arguments, statements of fact, rhetorical questions.  If you don’t get pocket money you are trying to persuade your family that you should. Maybe you can offer to do more to earn it, maybe you do loads already so think you deserve more.  Maybe you’ve just turned 12 so need more cash!  Use the planner and check the resources below – they will help you if you use them.

The PowerPoint below will give you an idea of what kind of language to use in a persuasive text and the Super Sentence Starters will give you an idea of how to start your idea off. There is also a persuasive writing frame that will give you an idea of how to lay out each section of you letter.

Remember to keep up with your ‘White Fang’ reading

White Fang PDF version of the book

White Fang pages and film letter This tells you which chapters to read for this week

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

This is an online audio book if you need a bit more support with the reading.  You log in using the ‘My Class Login’ button using these details:

Username: sjo primary 7
Password: White Fang            Capital W and F and space between words – sometimes easier to copy and paste

Continue taking notes: Who are the main characters? Where is the novel set? What are the main events of the story?  This will help you write a book review at the end of the novel. This can be in your Home Learning Jotter or using a template like below (or if you find your own that’s fine too).

Notes Template PDF

Today’s Maths Work:

Let’s keep going with Big Maths Beat Thats – a great way to work on tables and number bonds and building up your speed.  Why not make it interesting this week by challenging a parent or sibling- who can score the most? Share on your PLBs.

BMBT Learn Its Week 3
