Primary 6 Afternoon Learning 07-05-20

Hello everyone,

This afternoon all our activities are going to help us to find out more about VE Day.  The 75th anniversary of this very special day is tomorrow, 8th May.

There is an information powerpoint:

VE-Day-in-Scotland

A worksheet to help you reflect on what the day was all about:

VE Day Worksheet

Some Morse Code puzzles to solve and set:

Morse Code 4

‘Code-Cracking for Beginners’ Morse Code Worksheet

A BBC clip for moe information:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/history-ks2-ve-day/z7xtmfr

(You might need to copy and paste that one)

A special song to listen to and learn more about all the women who stepped in to do many jobs that had only ever been done by men before the Second World War.  This song was written specially for the 75th anniversary commemorations:

Maybe you could search for other music that was popular during the 1940s.  Can you find out about the artists, singers, and bands that were listened to?  Do you know anyone who was alive in the 1940s?  Could you phone or email them to say hello and ask about what they remember about the time?

Enjoy your afternoon everyone,

P7 Afternoon Post 7.5.20

Good Afternoon Primary 7,

I hope you are all well and have managed to enjoy some sunshine over the past few days.

It was lovely to see some of your Emily Carr inspired artwork last week.  I was very impressed with the level of creativity and detail.  Some of you will soon have your own little gallery in your bedroom!

This week we are going to look at another Scottish artist.  You may have heard of him.  In fact, some of you might even have prints of his work around your house. His name is Steven Brown and he is a modern Scottish artist who is particularly famous for his colourful paintings of animals.  His most famous being the highland cow.

Here is the link to a very short powerpoint where you can find out a little more about him and his work:

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/cfe2-a-37-scottish-artist-steven-brown-information-powerpoint

Your task this afternoon is to create a piece of art that includes an animal of your choice.  You might want to use Steven Brown as your inspiration and make a colourful piece in his style or you might want to do something entirely different, it’s up to you.  I have attached the link to a worksheet that shows you step by step how to create a highland cow.  You can print the sheet and do it at the bottom or you can draw it in your jotter/on a piece of paper.  Once you have finished your drawing, please add some bright colours too.

How to Draw a Highland Cow Worksheet

I can’t wait to see your finished art work.  Remember to post them to your blog so we can see your wonderful work!

I have also put below the answers to your morning maths tasks:

Patterns Mild 3Rs Answers

Patterns Spicy 3Rs Answers

Have a great afternoon!

P4a- Thursday 7th May- Afternoon Activities

Good afternoon P4a. Here are your afternoon activities.

Task 1 World Fair Trade Day

World Fair Trade Day is on Saturday 9 May 2020. This day is a time to say a big
thank you to all of the farmers and workers who produce our food and drink!

Here is a story you can read: Thank you for the chocolate story. The story will take you on a journey to meet everybody involved in bringing chocolate to our shops, right from the very start of the process in the forests of West Africa.

Your Home Learning Challenge is to design and send a Thank You card to the
farmers and workers who are working hard to provide us with our food and drink at
this time. You can send a picture of your Thank You card to schools@fairtrade.org.uk and it will be digitally sent to Fairtrade organisations across the world!

Task 2 Roman Music

Romans enjoyed listening to and making music. Between banquet courses music may have been played as entertainment for guests.

Your task is to make some shakers.  Use different materials inside the shaker to explore the different types of sounds. Do they make sounds that are high/low loud/soft short/long?

Watch the video clip to learn how to make a shaker https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2Gkf_HFrMM.

Can you make different rhythms with your shaker? Can you listen to a song and play your shaker in time with the beat? You can record yourself playing your shaker and upload it on to your Personal Learning Blog.

Here are the answers to the comprehension task Humpback whales answers and the Maths task Converting 12-24 hour time answers from this morning.

I hope you enjoy the tasks.
