This afternoon we want to keep learning about Canada and Scotland.  We’d like you to find out more about the native wildlife that you can find in each country.  There are 2 PowerPoints to look at and from these choose one animal per country and research information on them.  It’s up to you how you want to present your research but we have included an animal factfile template that you can use if you wish.

We’re looking forward to finding out all about a range of interesting animals.

Resilience is the ability to recover from difficulties and not let things get you down. We all face problems, make mistakes and get things wrong but it is important to bounce back as best we can and show bounce-back-ability!

Your task is to have a look at the PowerPoint and then try filling each sticky note in the worksheet with an idea of how we can all be more resilient. Circle your favourite one and see if you can achieve that over the next week.

We’ve also been asked if you can complete the Primary School Meals Survey to feed back your opinions on school lunches.

Primary 6 Afternoon Tasks 11-5-20

Good afternoon, I hope you have enjoyed your learning and that some of you managed to complete the extension tasks! This afternoon we are going to do some RME and Health and Wellbeing.

Health and Wellbeing

Task 1 Health and Wellbeing – School Lunch Menu Review

Our cook has asked us for some help.  She would like to introduce a new red tray option (meat based) and a new blue tray option (vegetarian) to try and encourage our P1 children to eat more of their lunch and to try and include more vegetables if possible.  Your task is to come up with these meals.  Use your knowledge of the Eatwell plate to help you plan this.   You can use the template here or record this in your own way.

Extension Task -Weekly Menu  Planner.

Design a timetable with a new weekly menu for Primary 1 children. You can use any format you want to design your menus. Think about how our  St John Ogilvie school menu is  organised as a starting point. Remember to include all the food groups.

School Meal Planner

Task 2 – RME

Last week we learned about the Holy Trinity.  Today  I want you to think about why it was important to have God on Earth in human form (Jesus).  Your task is to create a poster about Jesus, highlighting what his job was here on Earth.  Here are some of the things that he did:

  •  Teaching humans to love each other
  • Leading mankind
  • Teaching people about loving God
  • Being the “middle man” between God and mankind

Think also about the qualities that he showed and which made him so good at his “job”:  bravery; caring; loving; forgiving; a good leader.

You can create your poster using any media that you have (or use a computer design programme).  Don’t forget to upload your work to your Personal Learning blog.

Have a great afternoon.

P6A AM Tasks – Monday 11th May

Good morning P6a!  I hope that everyone had a good weekend.  Here are this morning’s tasks:

Task 1 Mathematics

We are continuing with our work on function machines today.  Complete the TJ pages either in your jotter or on a typed document and upload your work to your Personal Learning blog.

Function Machines TJ Maths

Task 2 Writing

Watch the video clip  https://www.literacyshed.com/catchit.html

Write the story of what happened as if you are either one of the meerkats or the vulture.  You will need to use descriptive language to share with the reader what happened from the viewpoint of one of these main characters.  If you choose to write as a meerkat, you might begin like this:

It was a normal hot day in the savannah.  We got up and checked on our dewberry fruit, this was the first thing that we did every day.  The fruit is the most precious possession of our mob and we cherished it.”

Have a look at the 2nd level writing targets to help you.

Primary 7 Monday 11th May AM

Good morning P7, we hope you had a restful weekend.

Here is today’s Literacy Work:

There are many different characters in White Fang; your task today is to do a character study on 2 of them. In the centre of your page write the name of your chosen character, around the outside you must include information about the character – this can be physical traits, looks, personality etc. Write what you know about the character so far and use direct quotes from the book to support what you are saying.

Keep up to date with your ‘White Fang’ reading

White Fang PDF version of the book

White Fang pages and film letter This tells you which chapters to read each week

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

This is an online audio book if you need a bit more support with the reading.  You log in using the ‘My Class Login’ button using these details:

Username: sjo primary 7
Password: White Fang            Capital W and F and space between words – sometimes easier to copy and paste

Continue taking notes: Who are the main characters? Where is the novel set? What are the main events of the story?  This will help you write a book review at the end of the novel. This can be in your Home Learning Jotter or using a template like below (or if you find your own that’s fine too).

Notes Template PDF

Today’s Maths Work:

For mental maths we continue with Hopefully you can improve on your score each day or if you are finishing ALL 72 correctly, try and beat your time each day.  Post your scores/times to Your Personal Learning Blog.

BMBT Learn Its Week 4

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/stjohnogilvieprimary/files/2020/04/BM100second.mp3

Today we are going to look at quite an advanced piece of maths, the calculations involved in working out Speed, Distance and Time. It’s something we need to learn a bit about before the move to high school, don’t worry if you find it tricky to start with, you’ll learn more about it at secondary.

Start by looking at this PowerPoint which will explain the concept.

Time Distance and Speed PPT

There’s a little online starter mental game:

You have the choice of 2 levels today, work from book 2b or from 3a – Try your best and you are allowed to use a calculator today.
