P4B AM Wednesday 13th May

Good Morning P4!

This morning’s tasks are:

Challenge

Let’s start this lovely Wednesday morning with a ‘Number of the Day’. Complete in your jotter or on paper.  https://mathsstarters.net/numoftheday/

Literacy

Today, we are going to learn about Similes and Metaphors. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zfkk7ty/articles/z9tkxfr

A Simile is when we compare one thing to something else e.g. Zak is as brave as a Lion. It tends to use ‘as’ and ‘like’.

A Metaphor is when you describe something as being another thing e.g. Sophie thinks books are the key to your imagination.

  1. Look at the Similes and Metaphors PPT Simile_or_metaphor PPT
  2. Read the phrases and sort under the headings of metaphors and similes. Similes and metaphor sorting
  3. Can you finish the Similes and Metaphors. Finish the Simile and Metaphor

Play a game to complete the similes https://www.englishclub.com/esl-games/vocabulary/matching-similes-9.htm

Maths

Today, we are going to think about adding and subtracting money amounts.

When we add and subtract money we use exactly the same strategies we would use when adding and subtracting any number. The main difference is that our pound amounts will have a decimal point. It is very important you remember your decimal point within your sum and that all your numbers are lined up.

Primary 7 Wednesday 13th May AM

Good morning P7, hope you are all staying safe and well.

Today’s Literacy Work:

The last few weeks we have been looking at persuasive writing, where we share our points about one side of the argument. Today is slightly trickier as we are going to be creating a piece of discursive writing, this is where you must share both sides of the argument, even though you might not agree with one.

The PowerPoint will give you an explanation of what a discursive piece of writing looks like, and will give step by step examples. The planning sheet will give you some space to write out some of the points you are going to make it your writing – try to come up with 3 or 4 bullet points for each side of the argument. The template will tell you exactly how to lay out your writing and the super sentence starters are just some ideas of persuasive language that we have used before. Remember you can complete these in your jotter or on a piece of technology.

This week you are arguing both sides of the question ‘Should kids be banned from buying junk food?’ It will be tough when you have to write about both sides but this is great preparation for high school.

Today’s Maths Work:

How are your scores this week? Last chance to improve them today.

BMBT Learn Its Week 4

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/stjohnogilvieprimary/files/2020/04/BM100second.mp3

We continue our work with Speed, Distance and Time.  Remember to look at the info in the textbook which explains what to do or revisit the website from Tuesday or the PowerPoint from Monday for advice and examples of what to do.

Book 2a are now working on Speed calculations.  What is the name of the Speed, Distance, Time relationship ...That means you are dividing distance by time today.

Remember that units would be in mph (miles per hour) kmph (kilometers per hour) m/s (meters per second) etc.

2b SDT Speed

Book 3a have a mix of SDT today but also have work on dealing with time and decimals.  0.5 on a calculator is 30 mins not 50.  0.25 is 15 mins not 25.

3a Time-Distance-Speed 4

Remember to post your work to your Personal Learning Blogs, we look forward to seeing your excellent work and reading today’s writing.

Primary 6B Morning Tasks 13-5-20

Good morning everyone! I really enjoyed seeing your fantastic work yesterday! Today we are going to start with Numeracy and Writing!

Numeracy

Starter  Look at the starter slide and try to answer the questions. They should get you thinking ready for your division calculations.

Division Task  Look at the Division PowerPoint and it explains what a remainder means. When you have looked at all the slides carefully and  think you understand what to do, then choose a mild, spicy or hot task to complete. Remember to show all your working for each calculation and lay your work out neatly !

Extension Task – Create your own word problems using division and remainders for a family member to complete. ( Sarah bought 18 squidges online from Amazon during the lockdown. She shared them equally among four  friends, put them into individual boxes and sent them through the Royal Mail to their  home address. How many squidges did each of her friends get and how many were left over ? )

Spicy Division Sheet 1

Hot Division Sheet 1

Hot division Sheet2.

Writing

Your task today is to design a school for Ninjas ! Watch the YouTube clip which creates a mind- map of ideas to include in your story.  Consider the following questions. What would they wear ? What gadgets would they use? What subjects would they study ? What would the teachers be like? What would the building be like ? etc  Write your story as a diary entry , telling the story as a child who has just arrived at the Ninja school !  Use  the diary entry checklist to help you. Let your imagination go wild and post your fantastic writing on your PLP. I can’t wait to see your finished work!
