To continue with the theme of nurses from Tuesday, I thought we could do a bit of writing today about Florence Nightingale and her story.

Here is a powerpoint to remind you and hopefully you watched the video on Tuesday, which will also help you. Florence Nightingale PP

You can use these pages as a planning sheet. Remember to think about what you want to include in the story. You can also write this as The story of Florence Nightingale or as a report about her. It’s up to you. Florence Nightingale writing prompt

However, please remember;

  • proper sentences, descriptive language
  • vary sentence openers
  • capitals and full stops
  • a suitable length

Primary 6 Afternoon Post 13-05-20

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you have had a great morning.

Our afternoon tasks today are our Novel Study and STEM.

I need to to think about the different ways stories start; Once upon a time…; straight into the main part; looking back on the story from the end; setting the scene; etc.  Our story starts in the present day but doesn’t continue in the present, it moves back into the past.  Read it here:

The_Last_Wolf_-_Michael_Morpurgo-1

Think about why Miya calls her Grandpa an ostrich.  What type of language is this?  Why is it written in capital letters?  Try this activity:

The-Last-Wolf_TP-11-12-2

What is going to happen next?  Do you think Robbie McLeod is a relative of Grandpa and Miya? Why?

STEM:

The challenge today is to make a paper plane that can carry cargo!  Your plane can carry coins, lego, small items (unbreakable!!) that you can attach to it.  Here’s a link with some ideas to help (you may need to copy and paste the link into your browser):

Paper Airplane Instructions for Multiple Designs

There’s instructions on how to fold a paper aeroplane but you can also use your own design.  Upload pictures or a video to your blog, can’t wait to see them!  Enjoy!

School comparison

Your second task today is your first official Yearbook Task (yes it is the time already!!) It is going to be a bit trickier to make a yearbook this year so we need everyone to get involved, encourage each other to take part in our Yearbook Tasks because we can’t have anyone missing out!  It is a nice straightforward task today, complete the following questions:

Three things about me

What I am looking forward to at Secondary School….

My favourite memory of St John Ogilvie…
