P5B Week Beginning 9th June 2025

Dear P5B Families,

I cannot believe we only have 2 weeks of term left!  I hope we manage to squeeze in lots of memories and learning experiences before then.

Your child took home a letter this week inviting donations of unopened, shop bought food from a given country.  If you are unable to provide a donation of food from that country, any donation will be welcome from the countries we are learning about: Poland, India, Slovakia and Bulgaria.

Here are the learning highlights from the Blue Table:

David and Aaeryn-Leigh have been enjoying learning about equivalent fractions.  Next week we will move on to mixed fractions.

Nicolas, Addison and Nathan have loved researching about a given country.  Some topics have included: the language, location, currency, traditional food, music and dress and any other subject the children wanted to learn about.  Each group will then present their findings to the class on Thursday.  We are all looking forward to this very much!  Some other interesting things some groups have included have been: famous landmarks, football teams and the president/ruler.

Amelia said she enjoyed PE where the children used measuring tapes to measure how far they were able to jump (following on from Miss Howe’s teaching of the Long Jump).  I witnessed super team work, as each child was involved in holding the mats, marking with chalk, measuring and recording the lengths jumped.

Olivia and Ellie-May recount how the learning highlight of the week for them was listening to our class novel in the woods.

Adya S liked learning about The Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary.  So far the children have learned about the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries.  Next week we will move on to the Luminous Mysteries.

Flynn loved the movie and popcorn reward for all the hard work the children did for their Climate Smart schools.  Unfortunately, due to the cyber attack, we were having some difficultly hot spotting via my phone and did not get to finish the movie.  Hopefully we can watch the ending during the final week of term.

Sean (and my) highlight has been the narrative story the class wrote together and then moved on to writing their individual narratives, following the features of: orientation, complication and resolution.  So far, the children have written their own orientations which all sound so captivating!  I look forward to seeing how each story progresses!

Congratulations to Nicolas our hot chocolate award winner this week and a big thank you to David and Anthony for the pic collages.

We are experiencing some technical difficulties uploading photographs.  I will add them as soon as this is possible.  Watch this space!

Primary 2/1 Learning Highlights 13th June 2025

This week the Friendly Dragon left us the story of Aladdin. We made our own magic carpets on card and then we used magnets to make them fly across the scene we had drawn on a piece of paper. It was great fun! We also decorated our own magic lamp and wrote the three wishes we would ask the Genie for. Lots of us were hoping that the Friendly Dragon would grant our wishes but Miss Stebbing explained that might be a bit difficult for it!

In Maths, we have been practising our doubles facts and addition skills. We played a new game on the smartboard where we had to hit the button with the correct answer. We got some great scores!

In PE, we have been practising for Sports Day and we even got to have a little competition with the P2s in Mrs Craig’s class. We are looking forward to Sports Day next week.

We all agreed that our favourite thing this week was making the magic carpets!

Well done to Martha, who is our Hot Chocolate winner this week. She wrote fantastic sentences for writing and made sure her work was well presented.

P1 Weekly Learning Highlights 6th June 2025

We are now in the final month of P1 and what another busy week we have had.

This week the Dragon sent us the story of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’, we read the story together and the Dragon set us a challenge, we had to try and make a bridge using loose parts and junk materials for the goats to cross over.  We all successfully completed this task.  We also made Billy Goat and Troll masks.  We practised our sounds and completed some dictation sentences about the Billy Goat Gruff.

In maths we practised addition and subtraction and quick mental recall.  We also practised counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In Religion we listened to the story of Pentecost and learned how the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirt.

In Gym we practised the activities we will complete on Sports Day.

Today we have our Fairyland Showcase Assembly.  It was a great success and our teachers were very proud of us.  It was great fun having a family member in school to complete Fairyland tasks with us.

After break time we received a letter from the Dragon to say well done on our amazing Assembly.  As a treat we got to watch the CBebbies Pantomime Hansel and Gretel and also got a bag of popcorn to eat.

We all had a wonderful week and everyone agreed our Assembly was the best part.

Well done to Sourya our Hot Chocolate Winner and Franek our Reading Champion.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Primary 2/1 Learning Highlights 6th June 2025

This week the Friendly Dragon brought us the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We had to build a bridge using the loose parts. We even used the loose parts to make a troll to be under the bridge. We then used the little goat teddy to walk across the bridge.

For writing, we wrote all about the Troll and used lots of great adjectives to describe it. We also had to draw pictures of the troll and these were very good.

On Friday, we had our Fairyland Showcase and we got to wear the crowns we made. We told the adults all about the learning we have done during our topic. We sang our Fee Fi Fo Fum song and everyone gave us a huge round of applause. We then did some activities with our adults. We had to design a shield, make a fire breathing dragon and went on a treasure hunt in the playground. We also got to show our Castle Books to our adults. Mrs McKissack said we all did a fantastic job at the assembly.

When we came back in after playtime the Friendly Dragon had left us a letter and a present. The Dragon had been watching us at the assembly and told us we had been fantastic. It also said as a special treat we could watch Hansel and Gretel CBeebies Pantomime. Inside the gift was popcorn for us!

We all agreed our favourite part of the week was our Assembly!

Well done to Dawid who is our Hot Chocolate Winner this week. He has shown great skills in completing addition and subtraction sums.

Primary 3 Learning Highlights 6th June

Happy Friday primary 3 and families!

This week has been great and fun-filled in primary 3. We started off our week with our literacy and we are continuing to practice our common words and reading our books. We started planning our dear future teacher letters by thinking about our goals for next year, highlighting our strengths and next steps for primary 4.

We have been focussing on fractions in numeracy and began to explore fractions of an amount. In beyond number, we have been looking at weight, focussing on heavier and lighter.

In health and well-being this week, we have began to think about transitioning to primary 4, we talked about some of the changes which will be happening, as well as things which will stay the same. We also had time to think about and write out our thoughts on what we are looking forward to and excited for in primary 4.

Topic has been really interesting this week, we got to look at the first moon landing and talked about what we would say if we were the first person to step foot on the moon. We designed our own rockets and then made our own planets with materials from the woodlands during outdoor learning.

We learned about Pentecost Sunday and what this celebration is for. We drew pictures of Jesus’ disciples after they had been blessed with the Holy Spirit by fire.

We had lots of fun practicing our sports day events with Primary 7 during PE and joining Miss Mushet’s class for music this week.

Well done to all of our winners this week.

Have a lovely weekend and I will see you all next week.

Primary 6A Learning Highlights 30/5/25

Dear Parents and Carers,

Primary 6 have been working hard on their House Captain speeches.  Some of the primary 7 captains came to our class and outlined what the role involved. They were really motivating and enthusiastic! They also gave us advice on what to include in our speeches!

On Ascension Thursday, some of our class attended mass at St Peters. Primary 6 learned why the day is so special and why it is important in the Catholic faith. Our class discussion was really interesting with lots of valuable contributions.

We have been designing tiles with pictures of wildlife for St John Ogilvie outdoor garden. Some of the designs look amazing!

We continued our peace and conflict topic. After a class discussion about the impact of current conflict in Ukraine, we created our own mind maps.

Our class novel still proves to be exciting and we are enjoying making predictions , discussing the meaning of difficult vocabulary and characters within the story.

Primary 6 continued to add detail to their peace and conflict posters which will be used for our class display!

During PE, we played rounders. Many of us did not know the rules so we had to learn them! It was great fun even on a windy day !!

In numeracy, we continued to learn more about equivalent fractions and some of us challenged ourselves with word problems.

Congratulations to Mason on being nominated for our hot chocolate award this week.

Have a super weekend !

P1 Weekly Learning Highlights 30th May 2025

This week the Friendly Dragon left us the Story of Hansel and Gretel. The dragon asked us to design a healthy lunchbox for them as they had been eating too many sweets. We learned all about the different food groups and foods we should have a lot of, some and only a little of. We drew lots of lovely food in the lunchboxes for Hansel and Gretel and shared our lunchboxes with the class.

We completed a sequencing of the story of Hansel and Gretel.

On Thursday, the Dragon asked us to teach Hansel and Gretel about keeping their teeth healthy. We discussed the importance of brushing our teeth correctly and we practised brushing on so model teeth.

The Dragon was impressed with our learning about healthy eating so it left us some fruit to taste. We enjoyed tasting raspberries, blueberries, melon, mango and pomegranate. Everyone had a different favourite fruit.

We have been practising for our Fairyland Assembly next week and we can’t wait to share our learning with our adults.

We joined up with P2/1 for our outdoor learning session today.  We used the bikes and scooters in the muga and played on the pirate ship.  We explored the loose parts and played tennis and skipping.

Primary 2/1 Learning Highlights 30th May 2025

This week the Friendly Dragon brought us the story of Hansel and Gretel. The dragon asked us to design a healthy lunchbox for them as they had been eating too many sweets. We learned all about the different food groups and foods we should have a lot of, some and only a little of. We drew lots of lovely food in the lunchboxes for Hansel and Gretel and labelled them correctly.

In Maths, we learned about Venn Diagrams and sorted different sweets into these. We were very confident in showing our understanding.

On Thursday, the Dragon asked us to teach Hansel and Gretel about keeping their teeth healthy. We discussed which foods were good and bad for our teeth. Some people made toothbrushes during play using the junk modelling material and some people wrote letters to help Hansel and Gretel and posted them in the post box.

Mrs Meikle handed us in a giant toothbrush to use with the model teeth and we decided it was the perfect size for the Giant. We left it out for him and he sent us a letter to say thank you. It was even his favourite colour!

The Dragon was impressed with our learning about healthy eating so it left us some fruit to taste. We enjoyed tasting raspberries, blueberries, melon, mango and pomegranate. There was nothing left at the end!

We have been practising for our Fairyland Assembly next week and we can’t wait to share our learning with our adults.

Here are some of our personal learning highlights this week:

Martha – I enjoyed doing fruit tasting.

Amariah – I enjoyed reading the letter from the giant.

Zenith – I enjoyed doing good and bad for your teeth.

Dhawan – I enjoyed making the lunchbox.

Elsie – I enjoyed doing the lunchboxes.

Danvith – I enjoyed the fruit tasting.

Primary 3 Learning Highlights 23rd and 30th May

What a fantastic two weeks in P3!

We have been working hard in our literacy focussing on common words again and practicing them using our active strategies! We are still flying through our books each week. We started recount writing last week, we planned our writing last week and did our written piece this week.

In numeracy we finished up our division last week by looking at the formal written method, and are now focussing on fractions. This week we have been focussing mainly on a half with a little bit of thirds and quarters too. Our beyond number as had a measure focus, last week we explored centimetres and meters and this week we measured objects and noted down sizes.

Outdoor learning over the last two weeks has been so much fun! We have been learning how to start a fire using a flint and steel. Lots of us managed to get a piece of cotton wool on fire but some of us didn’t manage it! Despite that we all tried super hard and gave it our best shot! On Monday, we had a visit from Rob with Kids Gone Wild and his lovely dog Jax. They led an outdoor learning session in the woodlands where we got to go on a rope swing and relax in hammocks.

Our space topic has been a big hit! We designed lots of planets and stars last week and this week we have been learning about the sun and moon.

We have been continuing to say a decade of the rosary in class over the last two weeks.  We designed a little card about a hope we have for the future for our Jubilee of Hope day and these are now on a shield which is displayed for everyone to see. We learned about the feast of the ascension and why we celebrate it.

Well done to all of our winners over the last 2 weeks.

Have a lovely weekend everyone! I will see you all on Monday.
