P3 Week Beginning 15th September 2025

Hello P3 families!  Here are our highlights this week from The Polar Bears:

Maks said the best lesson of this week was PE.  We played a game were half the class sat in a circle with a hula hoop between each person (see photos below) while 2 children from the 2nd half ran around the outside of the circle to music.  When the music stopped, they had to manoeuvre their body through the nearest hula hoop and the first one to grab the cone in the middle, won!  The children really enjoyed this and are eager to play it again.  Next time, not only will they be running but complete different sequences of movements as they move around the circle.

Dawid’s highlight was learning about Viking Gods.  This week we compared our Christian belief of Creation with the Viking mythology of how their God, Odin created the world.  We then began to recount this myth and next week will finish it off.  Here is a link to a BBC video if your child wishes to watch it again: Odin creates the World | Primary English – Viking Saga Stories.

Oscar liked our handwriting lesson.  We have been revising formation of letters before we progress on to joined up letters and do so by grouping them together.  This week we revised those letters that begin with a downward movement.

Daisy loved when we went in to the woodland with magnifying glasses to search for bugs.  This was part of our learning about taking care of God’s world.  Just a reminder that we hope to make a bug hotel or bird feeder next week.  Thank you for your donations so far of the recyclable materials we will need for this (see Seesaw post for specifics).

Umeaz has been enjoying the new class novel, ‘Thorfin the Nicest Viking’.

Vikashni said her favourite lesson was music with Mrs Morrison were the children continued on their music adventure of Treasure Island.

My highlight this week was not only seeing all the children again after my absence (I had a throat infection) but seeing how well they worked as a team to come up with a new name for their reading group.  They were tasked with the challenge of having a Viking themed name.  The final decisions were: The Shields, Odin, The Longboats, Thor, The Vikings, The Axe Throwers, The Brain Crushers and The Settlers.  Look out for your child’s reading book in their homework pack on Tuesday next week (usually Mondays).  This book is for you to enjoy with your child, I will be hearing them read a more challenging book matched to their reading comprehension age in class.  Please return their book on a Friday.  Thank you.

I hope you enjoy the long weekend and I hope to see everyone on our return on Tuesday.

Primary 1B Learning Highlights 18th September 2025

On Monday, we celebrated International Dot Day which promotes creativity. We read the story The Dot and we then used lots of different art materials to create our own dots. We had great fun! We then put them up with the other classes in the infant area to create a display.

In Maths, we have been learning about the numbers 8 and 9. Ask us how we know if a ten frame has nine. We can do this very quickly!

In Literacy, we have been learning about the letter s. We made the letter using our playdough and practised writing it on the tablets. We wrote a sentence beginning with all our common words ‘I can see..’. We used a picture of a farm as inspiration to complete the sentence.

In RE, we have been learning all about the different liturgical colours.

During PE this week we have been learning about moving in different ways. We flew to the moon and became astronauts and we had to walk very slowly. If we fell in a crater we had to crawl and we learned three different crawls. Baby, bear and crab. Ask us to demonstrate these for you! We then did some team relay races using all the different things we had learned.

In Science, we have been learning about our sense of sight. We used our sense of sight to spot the differences in two pictures on Seesaw. We then played a game where 6 different items were on the floor, then  2 people went out of the classroom and Miss Stebbing hid one of the items. We had to look and see which item was missing. It was fun and we got them all right! We then learned about the role of an optometrist and we designed our own glasses.

Here are some of our personal highlights this week:

Freya – I enjoyed using the numicon.

Alfie- I enjoyed doing the letter s.

Tejasvi – I enjoyed making the glasses.

Mikayla – I enjoyed ERIC time.

Carson – I enjoyed making a plane.

Amelia – I enjoyed writing ‘I can see…’

Have a lovely holiday weekend everyone!

Visit of the relics of St Carlo Acutis

I was absolutely delighted to be able to attend the schools Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh with 2 of our P7 Leadership Team.  Each primary in the St Andrew’s and Edinburgh diocese was invited to attend.

Carlo Acutis was an Italian Catholic teenager. He was known for his devotion to the Eucharist and his use of digital media to promote Catholic devotion. Born in London, England, and raised in Milan, he developed an early interest in computers and video games, teaching himself programming and web design and assisting his parish and school with digital projects.  Carlos died at the age of 15 and was canonised on 7th September 2025 by Pope Leo XIV, he is the first millennial saint.

It was a beautiful Mass in the presence of the relics which we were able to pray to before the beginning of Mass.  Our P7 representatives were excellent ambassadors for the school and I am very proud of them.

Primary 6B – WB 08.09.25

Dear Readers,

Welcome to our blog!

We hope you are all having a great weekend. This week has been a busy one for P6B, as usual!😂

The following highlights of the week have been chosen by the children and they don’t reflect everything that we have done but the things they have enjoyed the most and that they could still remember, since they tend to forget a lot about what happens throughout the week and remember mostly what they have done in the final two days of the week, which is when they are asked about the highlights for the blog.

Here are the highlights of our week in P6B, according to P6B:

  • All the activities with the Spelling Words of the Week, including looking up for the meanings in the dictionary, sentences with more than one of the spelling words in the same sentence, word families, root words exercises, rainbow writing and finally, on Friday, the Weekly Spelling Assessment, to check who is going to get 14 out of 14!
  • Maths adding with whole numbers to a million and decimal numbers to the thousandths, although some still need a lot more practice to feel confident doing it!
  • Big Maths, Beat That! on Friday, to check who managed to beat their last week’s score and, in some cases, move on to the next level! They love to dance to the sound of Big Maths, Beat That!🤣🤣💃🕺
  • Learning about what a Narrative is and the features needed to write good quality narratives. We have used a Mountain to exemplify the different parts of the Narrative: Opening, Build-up, Dilemma/Problem, Resolution and Closing. They felt this made sense and have planned their narratives which they will write this coming week during our writing session.
  • Participating in the Upper Area Service to honour the Holy Name of Mary with P6A, P7A and P7B and colouring in the pictures of Mary to participate in an Area challenge where the five best from each class will be displayed in the Area’s RE display during the month of October, one of the months that we dedicate to Our Lady.
  • Gardening in the school grounds, which was hard work but left many feeling very proud of themselves!🌱🌿
  • The whole class seemed to have enjoyed a lot accessing the Pixton.com app to create their avatars and become part of our avatar class! It is very funny and when everyone joins in, something that hasn’t been possible yet due to technical issues, we will be able to make stories with the children as characters, which we all think will be amazing! We got the idea from P6A and Mr. Pentland, to whom we thank a lot!😊
  • On Friday we have had the football trials and almost everyone from the class participated, so good luck to all!
  • Finally, we would like to congratulate the Hot Chocolate of the first three weeks of school:
  • Miss Olivia! 🥇Well done! Super behaviour and lovely attitude towards learning!😍
  • Miss Georgia ! 🥇Well done! Always willing to help with a beautiful smile!😍
  • Mr David! 🥇Well done! A sweet ‘gentleman’ always kind and willing to do the best he can!😍

We would also like to congratulate the winning tables of the last three weeks and remind all boys and girls to keep up with the good work, tidiness and good behaviour!

We say goodbye for now wishing everyone a super weekend with their loved ones!

Mrs Valente and P6B😘😘

P4A Weekly Update – 12.9.25

First of all we would like to thank everyone who came along to watch our class assembly this morning.  We think you will all agree that the children were amazing!  They have been working really hard over the past few weeks to learn about famous inventors and their inventions, and they were very excited to share their knowledge with you.

We have had a really busy week getting ready for the assembly but we also managed to fit in lots of hard work too.

In Literacy, we learned about ‘bossy e’ and practised spelling lots of words with this spelling pattern e.g. bike, time etc.  We also continued to read our class novel ‘The BFG’.  We found some words that we didn’t know the meaning off and looked them up in the dictionary.

In Maths, we have been working on place value up to 1,000 and we have also been learning more about the properties of 3D shapes.  We made some fantastic posters to demonstrate our work.

Since we have been learning about Scottish inventors, we thought it might be a good idea to learn about some famous Scottish artists.  We have been looking at the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and created some water colour pictures in his style.

Huge congratulations to Cameron who was our hot chocolate winner this week.  Cameron has been working very hard all week and has been kind and helpful to others.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Primary 1B Learning Highlights 12th September 2025

This week we have been learning all about the numbers 6 and 7 in Numeracy and Maths. We have been practising forming the numbers by rolling dice and looking at the pattern. We also sorted different pictures to show 5,6 and 7.

In Literacy, we have been learning all about the ‘c’ sound and the common word ‘can’. We had to sort picture cards and feed them to the monkey if they had m at the beginning or the cat if they had c. We also completed a worksheet to show which pictures began with m or c. In writing, we wrote a sentence with I can. We were all able to find and write the two common words correctly. We have been learning about putting a full stop at the end of the sentence and we tried to remember to put this at the end of our sentence. We have started ERIC time after lunch and we have been very good at getting a book and reading it quietly.

In RE, we have been learning about the sign of the cross and how to do this correctly. We are getting very good at remembering our daily prayers.

In Science, we have been learning all about our sense of hearing. We looked at what the inside of our ears look like and how they work. We then completed a Seesaw task to match the sound with the correct picture.

In PE, we had the hula hoops out again and we were pretending they were bubbles. We had to move round the room carefully so that we didn’t burst any bubbles. We then had to put different parts of our bodies in the hoop and try to keep our balance.

For Outdoor Learning this week we were in the playground. We got to use the different equipment during choosing our own learning time. We made bridges with the planks, snakes with the skipping ropes and enjoyed playing with the giant connect four. After break, we met up with our P7 Buddies and completed a listening walk. We drew different pictures of what we could hear inside and outside. It was great fun!

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Oliver – I enjoyed doing the writing.

Mikayla – I enjoyed drawing.

Alfie – I enjoyed doing the letter ‘c’.

Eloran – I enjoyed learning about ears.

Ignacy – I enjoyed reading the books.

Aayat – I enjoyed playing with the numbers.

Well done to this week’s Hot Chocolate Winner Niall. He has been working very hard in maths and completed the task with his buddy really well.

P1A Weekly Learning Highlights 12th September 2025

This week we have had a super week of learning.

In Literacy we were learning the sound ‘c’ we know it is a yellow, short, bouncy sound.  We were able to recall words that have the ‘c’ sound at the start of the word.  We also practised the formation of ‘c’ and made cats and caterpillars.  We differentiated between m and c.  This week we looked at the common word can and we tried to write it in a sentence.

In maths we looked at the numbers 6 and 7.  We used numicon to order numbers and then show different ways to make a number – for example 6 can be made by adding 2 + 4 and 3 +3.  We were introduced to 5/10 frames and made different amounts remembering to fill the top line first.

In Health and WellBeing we finished learning about the zones of regulation and looked at the colour yellow and the words worried and silly.  We discussed what makes us worried and what we can do to try and not worry.  We also made silly scribbles.

For our sense of hearing we listened to noises/sounds and we had to guess what they were.  We listened outside and drew pictures of the wind, the leaves rustling, an aeroplane and a seagull.  We played guess the instrument game and also made our own shakers.

Everyone agreed this week our learning highlight was playing out in the Woodlands.  We discussed risk assessment at ground, eye and high level and how to keep ourselves safe.  We took a tour of the woodlands discussing the boundaries of where we can play.  We got to pracitse entering and exiting the firepit safely.  We listened for sounds and drew what we heard.  Then we had time to choose our own learning.  We were so excited to find a fairydoor on a tree but we didnt see any fairies.

Well done to St Francis our winning house this week and congratulations to  Amelia  our Hot Chocolate winner this week.  Amelia works very hard and always tries her best.

We look forward to a shorter week next week full of fun and learning.
