P4B AM Thursday 28th May

Good morning P4! Another hot and sunny day today, make sure you have plenty of brain breaks and fresh air. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and wear sun cream to protect your skin!

This morning’s tasks are:

Challenge

Let’s start this lovely Thursday morning with a ‘Number of the Day’. Complete in your jotter or on paper.  https://mathsstarters.net/numoftheday/

Writing

Listen to the story ‘Flat Stanley’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzUKcbkbww0

Stanley is as flat as a pancake. He went on an adventure and posted himself to America to visit his friend. Imagine you were flat, what adventure would you go on?
Write an imaginative story titled ‘Flat ______’ e.g. Flat Olly. Remember to use what you learned yesterday about paragraphs and include descriptive vocabulary to add plenty of detail. Use these questions to help you but remember….this is a story, so there must be flow, we do not want it to read as if you are answering questions.

WHO is the character, what do they look like, what is their personality like?
WHEN does the adventure take place?
WHERE  is the character? where is the adventure to, remembering to use your senses to set the scene.
WHY do you decide to go on an adventure?
WHAT happens on the adventure? remember to build your story up the mountain to the peak and to the problem.
HOW do you overcome the problem?
WHAT happens at the end?

Maths

For Virtual Sports Fortnight our afternoons will give you the opportunity to complete the PE tasks set by Mrs Lafferty and share your results to help your House win.

Your other HWB task for today is to create a healthy recipe.  You’ll need a list of ingredients and instructions of how to make it.  Remember instructions have to be clear and use bossy verbs.  If your parent will let you, you could even make it for dinner (*safety in the kitchen*)- it doesn’t have to be tonight if you need to get some ingredients.  Ross in P7B made a fantastic looking Lasagne on Monday so all he has to do is write up the ingredients and instructions (unless he wants to make something else) so if you’ve made something healthy recently, you can just write about that if you don’t have time to make something.

Here is a web site with some ideas to get you started – you could take one of these and adapt it to ingredients you have available.

Remember to share work to your PLB.

Primary 6 Afternoon Post 27-05-20

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope you manage to get outside for a wee while this afternoon to make the most of the sunshine and to “catch” some vitamin D!

This afternoon we have a STEM activity and our virtual Sports’ Day task from Mrs Lafferty.

Here’s the link to Mrs Lafferty’s post: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/stjohnogilvieprimary/2020/05/27/virtual-sports-fortnight-day-3/

Remember to send her your videos and scores.

Your STEM task is to build a boat.  It can’t be too big as it needs to float either in your bath or sink or, if you have a garden, you could use a bucket or basin of water outside.  Your boat must be able to float AND carry cargo.  It might carry pennies or coins or passengers (lego figures, LOL dolls, etc.), or any other cargo you find that won’t be damaged by getting wet if your boat accidentally capsizes.  You can construct your boat from any materials you can find in your home or garden (do check you aren’t using something that belongs to someone else that they may need).  You may wish to add a sail to assist your boat to move but that isn’t a necessity.  We’d like to see photos and videos (if you can) of your boats floating with their cargo on board.

Here are some design ideas to get you started but you don’t need to copy any of these if you have a different or better idea.

Have fun everybody!
