VIRTUAL SPORTS FORTNIGHT DAY 4

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you have all been out enjoying the sunshine safely and with sun cream on! I am so happy with the number of pupils that have managed to complete and send me their videos of them taking part in our Virtual Sports Fortnight.

Today’s challenge is the egg & spoon, for this challenge you might want to boil your egg first so that if it does fall off your spoon you will not make a mess.  If you do not have any eggs in the house you can use something else that you have lying around that is in a ball shape e.g. small orange, golf ball or a pair of balled up socks.

Day 4 Instructions – Egg and Spoon Race

I know that some of you have been struggling to send your videos to the school e-mail as the video is too large, along with today’s blog post I have attached a score sheet that I would like you to fill out for everyday that you take part in the Virtual Sports Fortnight.  You do not need to print this out you can simply save and edit the document on your computer before sending it back.  I would still like you to video your attempts at the challenges however by also completing the worksheet this will allow me to make sure that I am able to add up all of your scores for all of the events and will not miss out on any vital house points being awarded.

*IMPORTANT* Please DO NOT send this sheet to the school e-mail until you have completed the challenge on Friday 5th June.

Score Sheet

Good luck, have fun and stay safe

Primary 7 Thursday 28th AM

Good Morning Primary 7, we hope you took advantage of the nice weather yesterday but remembered to use sunscreen!

Today’s Literacy Work:

Last week we had a grammar focus on the use of metaphors to add colour to our writing.  Another literary technique we use for this is similes.  They compare things using as or like and there are some very famous ones that you will know and probably even use in conversation; as fast as lightning, like a bear with a sore head etc.

Here’s a pdf that explains the differences between similes and metaphors.

similes and metaphors

Try this online game and see how many you recognise.

https://www.englishclub.com/esl-games/vocabulary/matching-similes-15.htm

If you click next game (bottom right of the page) you will find more to test yourself on.

Now you have the Similes PowerPoint which has a range of activities for you to complete in your jotter or a Word document.

Similes

Today’s Mathematics Work:

Here is this week’s BMBT CLIC test.  These are useful as they challenge you to remember on a range of basic numeracy work like fact families, place value and the 4 number operations.  3 levels of challenge to choose from.

BMBT CLIC Mild

BMBT CLIC Spicy

BMBT CLIC Hot

We continue with revision but not number work today – Perimeter and Area.  Here is a pdf reminder of how to calculate perimeter and area.

How to find area and perimeter

There are a few games on this site which will help warm up your brains, ready for the main task.

https://www.splashlearn.com/area-and-perimeter-games

Now it is time to get started.  Today’s task is a challenge, you need to read the pages carefully and follow the instructions.  Everything you need to know is id the pdf but you do have to read it. This is a task where we are looking to see that you can be an independent learner. It should be fun but it will take a bit of time – we don’t want a rush job.

Design Your Own Zoo – read the checklist on Page 1 and follow all of the instructions which are laid out for you. Page 6 shows an example of what is expected.

Zoo Project

Remember to share your work via your Personal Learning Blogs.
