Primary 1A Week Beginning 25th September 2020

This week we have been learning how to write number 8 correctly.  We met Amazing Eight who is a spider in the Number Zoo.

We have been practising the ‘m’, ‘c’ and the ‘s’ sounds this week.  We played Bingo with Mrs Newall.  Miss Stebbing’s group had the cat boards to put the sound in the right place and we also jumped in the hoop to show the colour of the sound.  In writing, we wrote by ourselves and used our sounds.  We practised writing our names on our special sheets as our morning activity.

On Thursday we had the chance to use the big wooden blocks.  We drew our designs on squared paper and then created them with the blocks.  We had great fun!

Today we met our P7 Buddies, we were very excited!  We made them a special heart and they made us a heart with a special message.  It was great to ‘see’ our buddies on the board using Teams.

P2B Week Beginning 21.9.20

Despite being a short week, P2B have managed to squeeze in lots of learning!   Here are our ‘best bits’ according to your lovely children:

Stefi liked learning about our lungs as part of our topic learning ‘The Body’.  This week we have explored the lungs and how they fill with air when we breathe in.  We made our own lungs using small plastic bags and straws.  We watched a show were Dr Ranj had a patient who found it a bit tricky to breathe.  We heard how this can be called Asthma.  We had a look at an inhaler and discovered that the special medicine inside can help lungs to work better.  Next week we will learn about the digestive system!

Maeve enjoyed revising money.  We role played being in a shop and used 1ps to pay for items.  Next week we are going to use 2ps, 5ps and 10ps to pay also.  We are going to use our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to help us to do this.

Mariam loved Free Writing Friday today.  Mrs Devlin got just the right twinkly lights now for our Author’s Chair so it was very special to sit and read our stories out today.  Mariam wrote a super story where the setting (our focus this week) was a swimming pool.

Amelia loved music and drama with Mrs Morrison this week where the children were repeating clapping patterns.

Mrs Devlin’s ‘best bit’ was welcoming our friends from P1B into our classroom again.  I can’t believe we have been back to school for 7 weeks already!  Where has that time gone?

Please check out our virtual classroom for weekly updates and homework.  Thank you.

Primary 7B Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Just a short week to update you on today.

We’ve been consolidating our work on addition and have now started working on subtraction, we’re doing well but some extra mental maths involving number bonds to 10 and 20 would always help us with quick recall.

Today we have started a National Sumdog Competition – thousands of classes have entered from across the UK and Mr McGurn always likes to reward any Top 10 Students or if his class wins Class of the Day.

We visited our woodlands area on Thursday with some clay! We created some fantastic tree faces/rock faces using found materials from the woods to give added details.

Lily, one of our Lead Learners, had this to say, “I liked being Lead Learner because it was fun and cool.  I got to take lots of photos in the woodlands and write on the board what we were doing each day.”

Primary 5 B – WB 14.09.20

Dear readers,

We invite you to read our blog of the week.

To start the week, we have been to the Woodlands for the first time in Primary 5. When we were there, some of us decided to surprise Mrs Valente by spelling her name with wood sticks and at the end of her name we have placed a lovely love heart shaped rock! We will try to attach the clip with that to share it with you here!

One of the reasons for us to start going to the Woodlands is the fact that our topic is The Secret Garden. While we were there, Mrs Valente has divided us into pairs and gave us challenge cards that we had to complete. We have really enjoyed that!

This week in Maths we’ve learned how to round to the nearest thousand and we got really good scores! We have also learned about the Compass and the Cardinal and Intercardinal points and we were using them to follow instructions on how to move from one place to the other. We also tried to give instructions to other people on how to go from a place to another.

We have started reading The Secret Garden and felt very shocked at the events from chapter 1. Our reading comprehension was about Chapter 2 from The Secret Garden and we got to make Mary Lennox in cardboard, which was particularly fun since she is very grumpy! Our writing was a detailed character description of Mary and we congratulate our star writers of the week for their achievement!

For Art, we have been doing our own watercolour trees but we will only start the water colouring part next week.😊 We hope to show them to you in our next blog.

In Religious and Catholic Education, we have learned how to locate a given scripture in the Bible after learning how it is organised.

Since we have worked really hard, we are looking forward to a nice, sunny, calm weekend and we send our love to all of you!

See you all next week!😘😘😘😘

This week in P1B

We have had another great week of learning in P1B.

In maths we have been working on our formation of the numbers 6 and 7. We have also been looking at different combinations of numbers that add together to make numbers to 7.

For literacy, we have been learning the ‘s’ sound. We were able to identify words that begin with ‘s’ and practised really hard to write it the correct way round.  We enjoyed reading the story ‘Rex’s Specs’ for book talk and made our own specs to wear home. Also, Ogilvie Bear shared pictures with us of an adventure that he had on a train. We helped him make sentences about his adventure and we all remembered a sentence needs a full stop at the end. Next week we are going to try to write our own sentence.

This week we have started to learn about our senses and focused on sight. We all had great fun playing in our class role play opticians and loved going into the woods on a sight scavenger hunt. We also did a task where we had to try and draw a picture with the clipboard on our heads so we couldn’t see. We all found this really tricky.

Scott – I liked people playing with me outside.

Sean – I liked going outside to play.

Jayden – I liked playing on the trim track.

Addison – I liked learning.

Alek – I liked going into the woods.

Alex – I liked listening to stories.

We hope you have a fantastic September weekend and look forward to seeing you all again on Wednesday.

P2/1 Week Beginning 14.9.20

P2/1 have had a super week! We have been enjoying the lovely weather too and because it was dry we went up to the woodlands. We noticed we are starting to see signs of Autumn! Here are our highlights:

Zac liked it when we revisited our learning about Holy Water and practised blessing ourselves with real Holy Water.

Aaeryn-Leigh loved writing the letters she learned so far with chalk outside while the P2s wrote ‘oa’ words they had been learning. Mrs Devlin was very impressed because the children had to join the ‘o’ and the ‘a’ up and did very well!

Alexa reported that she enjoyed learning about our heart this week as part of our topic, ‘The Body’. We felt for our heart beat and compared how it felt before (resting) and after exercise. We learned how to keep our heart healthy by eating fruit and vegetables and then drew a still life of some fruit during art. Mrs Devlin was pleased to see how some boys and girls brought in healthy heart food for their snack!

Markuss enjoyed Free Writing Friday this week. We heard some fantastic stories! We know that we need to speak in a big loud voice so our friends can hear our work. Mrs Devlin’s fairy lights could not be seen among the tinsel as they were too small so we look forward to bigger ones next Friday.

Mrs Devlin’s highlight was when the children got really excited about a game for our learning to read the ‘ai’ word ‘aim’. The kids tried their best to aim a ball and throw it through some circular spaces on something I had in the classroom that I picked up in IKEA but hadn’t quite decided what to use it for yet. They loved it so much they wanted to play it during their Choosing Time for the rest of the week.

Remember next week we return to school on Wednesday.  See you then!  Remember to look out for updates on our Virtual Classroom on Wednesday too!

Still having some difficulty uploading photos.  These one made it into the Blog this week.
