Well, that’s the first term of Primary 7 complete. The children have been fantastic and have settled in incredibly well.
This week has once again been a busy one. There has been lots of learning and lots of fun. The highlight for the children was definitely our visit to the woodlands, where we lit a fire and roasted marshmallows.  This was thanks to our wonderful janitor Mr Montgomery who had it all set up for us arriving. Thankfully, Miss Bett was also on hand to help keep the fire lit. It was a great opportunity to reward the children for all their hard work this term.
 
In writing, the children completed a piece of work for assessment. This will allow us to plan our focus for writing lessons for next term and let us identify next steps for individual children.  We also finished our rainforest leaflets from last week. We are proud to report that they produced some fantastic work, I am sure you will agree.
Every week, we have two ‘Writers of the Week’. This week Viktoria and Amelia took the honour for their fabulous work.

The children have all updated their blogs with pieces of work they are particularly proud of this term.  Ask them to show you.

Another excellent week of learning in primary 6!

The children have worked hard and have lots to share with their families.

Health and Well-being: HWB continues to be one of our main areas of focus in our learning and the children have been discussing their emotions through the  ‘Emotion works’ lessons.

Literacy: This week we were using description bubbles to help us improve our writing. We created description bubbles about two of the main characters in Gangsta Granny.

Maths: We have continued to work on adding and subtracting decimals. We played a decimals game with a partner and also played some math games on Sumdog and Prodigy. We have also been identifying types of angles and created Autumn pictures using angles.

IDL: We have been learning about the design of buildings and what makes them strong. We took part in a design challenge and designed buildings that would be earthquake proof. We then used spaghetti and mini marshmallows to put our buildings to the test. We also created posters to show how to be safe during an earthquake (drop, cover and hold)

Art: We used the painting ‘The Great wave’ by the artist Hokusai as inspiration for our Tsunami pictures and used oil pastels and paint to create our own versions. We also made NHS thank you cards to show our appreciation for their continued support.

Over and above: Well done to our over and above winners this week. Jagoda and William, you have worked extremely hard in all areas of your learning. Keep up the hard work!

We would also like to wish Ava and Lena all the best at their new schools. We will miss you both but we know you will continue to be awesome no matter where you are learning.

This week we have been learning the sound ‘a’.  We have been writing ‘a’ and Miss Stebbing said that we did really well.  In writing, we were writing about things we could smell.  We used some of our common words and our sounds.

In maths we have been learning about 3D shapes. We now know all the names.  We were building towers with the shapes and knocking them down, this was great fun!

We read the book Pirate Pete and his Smelly Feet. It was a very funny book. At our morning activities we have been trying to find the common words in our books. ‘The’ was the winner this week!

Joe – I liked playing with the lego.

Nathan – I enjoyed playing with toys.

David – I enjoyed eating snack.

Aiden S – I enjoyed apple activity time.

Minny – I enjoyed playing.

Rebekah – I enjoyed playing with the penguins.

Dear readers,

As usual, this has been a very busy week for us!😃

We are always working and that can be very exhausting!😂

During this week we have improved even more our mental addition skills by using a new strategy: partitioning. We have learned to use partitioning when we first started Primary 5 and have now learned how to use it to make our mental addition even easier and quicker. Also in Maths, we have learned about really tricky 3d shapes and their properties and had to be able to describe them in order to get some more of our so much loved house points!😂😂😂

in Literacy, our Spelling words keep on getting more and more complex and we think we are going to be amazing with our spelling in the future because of how much we have been working hard now! In fact, some boys an girls work so, so hard that when it is time for the spelling test, on the Fridays, they don’t even need for Mrs Valente to dictate the words to them because they already know them by heart! This is hard work, no doubt!

Reading comprehension is always a very important task because we then have the opportunity to really look in depth to the extract of the chapter we’re reading and understand it properly. Mrs Valente says we are getting better at ‘reading between the lines’ and she always says that it is very important.

For grammar, we have had lots of fun learning about contractions and have realised that we didn’t know why we used apostrophes lots of times and that was why we sometimes put them in the wrong place. We are hopefully getting better at it now!

In Big Maths, Beat that, the amount of boys and girls practising throughout the week after having finished their tasks is impressive and Mrs Valente is super proud!😍

We have started to draw our elephants which relate to the Topic of the Secret Garden, since the main character, Mary Lennox was born and brought up in India and we have learned how important these animals are in the Indian culture. Unfortunately we have not finished them yet and so you will only be able to have a look at them when we come back after this break, sorry!

Dear Parents, here’s what’s been going on in P7B this week.

In maths, we have been continuing our work on subtraction but are now ready to move onto multiplication after the holidays – some times tables at home will help us be prepared for this.  We continue to enjoy the Real Life Problem Solving App – ask us about this week’s profit calculating activity. And we revisted tellling the time using analogue clock faces – it was pretty tough for some of us.

In literacy we wrote some excellent pieces of Personal Writing and it was good to think back to different times in our lives.

In HWB we have been using God’ Loving Plan to learn about changes that we experience when we grow up and having a chat with us about this will help us feel more confident.

We built dens outside in the woodlands using tarps, poles, rope and things we could find around the woods. It w.as a lot of fun and we all took different approaches to building.

Here is an update from this week’s Lead Learners:

This week P7B has been doing lots of subtraction with large numbers in maths, in topic we were finishing pictures made of different materials for our rainforest display. In PE we have also doing some orienteering with Mrs Lafferty. Plus making fun dens in outdoor learning on Thursday.

In spelling we have been working on different fun spelling cards with challenges like pyramid writing, bubble writing and more. Also in RE we have been reading some verses out of the bible and discussing what’s happening in them, and we having been reading more of our class novel ‘The Explorer’.

We have had another busy and productive week in P1B.

We have been learning the letter and sound p.  We picked apples from our school apple tree and made apple prints.

We have been practising writing our sounds and common words.

We played a game of sound splat to see if we could identify our sounds and then begin to blend our sounds to make cvc words.

In writing we wrote a sentence about what we can smell.  We worked hard to use finger spaces between our words and a full stop at the end of our sentence to show we were finished.
