Primary 1A Weekly Update 2nd October 2020

This week we have been learning about being respectful and safe. We sorted out cards for friendly and unfriendly.  We have been trying hard to be gentle with our friends.

In science, we have been learning about our sense of taste.  We made popcorn, it was great fun.

We have been learning all about the letter ‘p’.

During Outdoor Learning we were looking at the trees because the leaves are changing colours.  We saw yellow, green, brown, orange and red leaves.  We played with the outdoor learning toys.  Some people even tried to build a den.

We’ve practised writing our numbers all the way from 0 up to 10.

Some of our personal highlights were:

Kyle – I liked doing maths.

Minny – I liked learning how to write ‘p’.

Ben – I liked outdoor learning.

Rebekah – I liked playing with the fire engine.

Zosia – I liked when we played with the parachute and writing the letter ‘p’.

Julia – I liked playing with the other boys and girls.

Ella – I liked playing with my friends.

We all loved making the popcorn, it was a bit loud but it tasted yummy!!

Primary 4B Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

This week’s update for what we have been learning in P4B .

We have been working very hard this week with our maths. We have been taking part in the Scotland-wide Sumdog competition. This will help us prepare for the West Lothian competition which starts in November. We have also been learning more about 3D shapes finding faces, edges, vertices and vertex.

We have continued to practise our daily spelling. We are using describing bubbles in class to try and write Primary 4 level sentences. This has helped us writing interesting stories. This week we worked in trios or pairs to  investigate a famous Scottish Inventor. We then started to write a report about him, when our reports are finished we will share them with you on our personal learning blog.

In Science we have been investigating how an electrical circuit works by building our own circuits and lighting a light bulb and a sound box.

During our Outdoor Learning we collected autumn leaves to create artwork which will be posted on our learning blogs next week.

On Friday morning we all watched Primary 7 Kindness Assembly on Teams. They encouraged us all “To be the reason someone smiles today.”

Some of remembered to post our homework to share with Mrs Miller.

Next week is the final week of our first term in Primary 4.

P2B Week Beginning 28.9.20

Here are this week’s highlights according to your special children:

Zac loved his time in the woodlands.  As you can see from our photos this week, we went up to the woodlands for our handwriting lesson and used the natural materials to form the letters.  Zac also enjoyed the free play afterwards where he climbed some trees.  We have started to notice more signs of Autumn!  This is Mrs Devlin’s favourite season!

Reyansh enjoyed engaging in our lesson about the digestive system this week.  You will know that the children took ‘stomachs’ home that they made this week (some were so grossed out by them they put them in the bin).  We learned how our food goes on a journey through our body.  It starts in our mouth where our teeth break it down mixed with our saliva, travels down our oesophagus into our stomach where it gets tossed around and mixed with digestive stomach juices, then it makes its way into our intestines before any food the body is unable to digest to use for energy goes into the toilet (cue lots of giggles).  We watched what happened to some crackers when they got mixed with stomach juices (fizzy lemonade).  “Cool” was the word used a lot to describe what they could see happening.

Aiden shared how he has liked going over the sounds ‘ng’ and ‘sh’ learned during Home Learning.  You will find videos on Seesaw next week where your child can further revise these at home.

Mia liked writing a letter to the school nurse this week.  The children received their flu vaccinations this week and as part of our learning about keeping safe from the spread of germs, we wrote a letter to the school nurse telling her all we do to keep safe.  Some of these included: washing our hands, putting tissues we have used for our nose in a special bin with a lid, keeping a 2m distance from adults, coughing or sneezing into our elbow if we do not have a tissue and using our own belongings from our own pack in class.  We were also able to use the common word we were learning this week ‘from’ at the end of our letter.

Mrs Devlin’s highlight has to be receiving all the fantastic Seesaw tasks!  Each day we have looked at the new posts on the Smartboard.  The children were so excited to hear that sometimes Mrs Devlin will write feedback and sometimes she will speak.
Remember that all homework will now be posted there.  If you are experiencing any difficulties accessing Seesaw then please let the school office know.

Primary 7B Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Here’s this week’s update for what’s been going on in P7B .

We have been working very hard this week completing various assessments in literacy and numeracy, which give us useful information of what we are doing well and what we should work on next.

We have been taking part in the Scotland-wide Sumdog competition but will really be setting our sites on winning a prize in the West Lothian competition which starts in mid November. A special metion goes to Anya and Zain who both manged to finish ALL 1000 questions!!!

We continue to enjoy our outdoor learning experiences and found measuring and calculating the volume of air in the MUGA a fun and challenging maths lesson.

Finally, here’s a review of the week from this week’s (very efficient) Lead Learners.

Dear parents,

This week we have been doing a lot of tests on Maths, English and grammar and with Mrs McLaughlin we have been doing a bit on R.M.E.. In Topic we’ve been learning about Rainforest food chains and have created our own Rainforest stories as well as our collages in art. In P.E. we had to change from basketball to co-ordinates (Because of COVID-19). We have joined the UK Sumdog competition of 2020 and enjoyed it very much almost as much as we loved eating brambles and making bird nests in the woodlands.

Primary 5 B – WB 28.09.20

Dear readers,

We hope you have had a really good week!

This week we have been learning more about The Secret Garden and we are now at the end of Chapter 4. In Literacy, we have done lots of work with our new Spelling words, which were particularly tricky this week.

In Maths, we have been doing Mental addition to help us find the best strategies to be really good and quick at our sums.

In Science, we have learned about the different parts of a plant and also about the different parts of a flower.

On the 1st of October, we found out about our new call back which is : ‘Hands on top!’ – ‘That means stop!’

For reading comprehension we have worked very hard on understanding Chapter 3 and answering with full sentences to our questions.

On Monday we went to the woodlands and have been given the task of creating our own Secret gardens with nature’s own resources from the woodlands.

Today, we watched the very first ever virtual Class assembly presented by Primary 7A and we think they have been absolutely amazing!!!!!!!

As always, we also finished off our week with Big Maths, beat that and our Weekly spelling assessment and Mrs Valente is looking forward to checking them and see how much we have improved!

Yesterday, to say goodbye to our lovely Mrs Green, who is going to be retiring, we have drawn beautiful flowers and made a giant card to give her with the most amazing flower in the front! She absolutely loved it and thanked us all so much for it! We also had a whole school assembly to have everyone saying thank you to Mrs Green for her spectacular work throughout her career as a teacher.

We have been given new ‘ Free time jotters’ where we can write, draw, take notes, practise spelling, maths or do other things we like, but only when we are finished with our tasks and still have a bit of time.😊

We hope you have enjoyed reading about our week and send you lots of love!❤

Week beginning 28.9.20 p4a

Learning Highlights:

Daisy: I enjoyed making a mind map from our notes on electricity

Grant:  I enjoyed doing cross country in the rain.

Myles: I enjoyed doing the tesselation pattern in Maths.

Josh : I liked rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.

Samyuthka: We did our rounding to make the sum easier for us to do.

Olivier: I liked adding and  taking away 2 digit numbers and telling Mrs Broadley how I got my answer.

Miss Smith and Mrs Broadley : We have found choosing the hot ‘chocolate at home’ reward particularly difficult this week. The attitude of the pupils towards their learning has been fantastic. We are so pleased that the pupils enjoyed using the non-fiction texts  to find information and to answer their comprehension questions.
