It has been another busy week in P1B

The sound of the week this week was ‘i’,  We practiced writing and forming ‘i’ correctly and we made igloos using cotton wool.  We are now beginning to write words blending the sounds we have learned together.  We also enjoy practicing writing a sentence using our knowledge of sounds.

Our story this week was ‘Room on the Broom’ we enjoyed retelling the story and sequencing pictures into the correct order.  We drew pictures of all the characters sitting on the broom.  In writing we wrote what animals there was room for on our broom.

In Maths we looked at patterns and repeated patterns.  We made our own Halloween patterns and made patterns using the coloured blocks and elephants.  We also worked on using number lines to find the number before and the number after.

We made pumpkin crafts and a spider hat.

We read the story ‘A Magical Muddle’ and drew what animal the spell would make us turn into and we decorated our own muddle spell biscuit.

We danced to some Halloween songs creating our own spooky dance moves.

We met our P7 Buddies through Teams and we were delighted to receive a Halloween card and little chocolate treat from them.

We made a Halloween pumpkin card to give to our buddy.

This week we have been learning about how to keep safe at Halloween and different rules to follow.

We hope you are all very well and have been managing to keep safe!😃

As always, this has been a super busy week in Primary 5B! Let’s see if we can remember about everything we did.

We started with our new super duper tricky spelling words and Mrs Valente is really looking forward to see how well we’ve done in our weekly spelling assessment!🤔

In maths, we have been solving huge addition sums using the written method and we enjoy a lot doing it. We have also improved our measuring skills by learning how to use a ruler with centimetres and millimetres to measure our classroom objects, but only after having estimated their measures before.

Our reading comprehension was on Chapter 5 of the Secret Garden and because we have finished our Secret Garden topic, but not our book, we got to watch The Secret Garden with popcorn brought by Mrs Valente! 🥳

Of course we only got to do this after our Spelling assessment and our Big maths because we are all completely crazy about our weekly scores and didn’t want to miss a week of them!😂

Our grammar lesson this week was about adverbs and we have learned not only what the word means  but also what they do and how to use and identify them.

The writing session of the week was about the Secret Garden and we have been asked to pretend to be Mary Lennox writing a letter to her Ayah to let her know about the way she has been feeling since she left India and also how much she has changed since. It was very interesting and we would like to congratulate all who worked hard on this, particularly our star writers of the week, for their brilliant work: Hanna, Monique and Sam!🥇🥇🥇

Going to the woodlands was super fun and we have collected the most beautiful leaves ever to make our Autumn wreaths, that we hope will be amazing.

And these were only some of the many things we did during this week! You can imagine how tired we are, of course, and in need of a restful, cosy and sweet ( with treats) weekend!🎃🎃🎃

Dear Parents and Friends,

Another busy week in P7B, with learning right across the curriculum.

In literacy we have continued with our class novel about 4 children lost in the Amazon rainforest eating grubs and cocoa beans to survive – this gave me an idea to try some very strong dark chocolate – 70%, 78%, 85% and 99% cocoa! There were a range of reactions from loving it to spitting it out but Oskar’s reaction to the 99% cocoa looked like this…

In Numeracy we have been working on multiplication – multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 (and multiples of), doubling and halving and 4 digit numbers by a single digit.  There is some decent challenge within this but it is made so much easier when we have quick recall of tables facts.  Any extra support you can give us with times tables will really help.

We have started our new topic, Japan, and are excited to find out all about the geography, culture and history of this exciting country.

On Friday, as a special treat because the current situation has meant that for the safety of all Halloween guising has had to be called off, we spent a bit more time on Halloween than we normally do in P7.  We had some treats but had to tell a joke to get them and those that chose to, were allowed to dook for an apple.  We all had our own individual containers of water and towels and were socially distant from other when we took our turns.  Not quite normal but still good fun and safe!

We have had a busy week in P6B!  We (Mrs Egan!) forgot to choose new lead learners on Monday so our round up this week is a whole class reflection.

Adam: I enjoyed learning to tell the time, quarter to  and half past.

Connor : I enjoyed playing a word board game where I had to read the words. I read 24 words.

Olivier – I liked doing the telephone drawing using charcoal.

Myles – I liked practising my spelling words.

Marriyah – I liked enjoying identifying the body sensations of Ahmet in our class story.

Joshua D – I liked listening to our class story and especially when Ahmet fought back against Brendan the Bully in the story.

Josh N – I liked revising our Spanish numbers.

Another excellent week of learning in primary 6!

The children have worked hard and have lots to share with their families.

Health and Well-being: HWB continues to be one of our main areas of focus in our learning and the children have been discussing their emotions through the  ‘Emotion works’ lessons.

Literacy: This week we were using description bubbles and our character description criteria to create interesting characters.  We also used this to describe characters from our class novel. We have started ‘Free Writing Friday’, a time where the class can be creative with their writing and put their ideas (any and all) on paper. This is the reverse of our ERIC time. We have been using the quote “reading is like breathing in and writing is like breathing out” to inspire us.

Numeracy/Maths: We have continued to work on decimals. We have been extending our place value knowledge to decimal place value. From this we have been looking at rounding and ordering decimals. We have also been identifying types of angles with Mrs Morrison.

IDL –  We have been learning about the design of buildings and what makes them strong. We took part in a design challenge and designed buildings that would be earthquake proof. We then used spaghetti and mini marshmallows to put our buildings to the test.
