P1B Virtual Classroom 30th November

Have a look at our Virtual Classroom. Here you will see the sounds, high frequency words and numbers we are working on in class.

It is very important that we practise these for 5-10 minutes every day.

  1. Can you identify our learned sounds m, c, k, s, p, a, t, i, n, o, e and write the letters? Can you make any CVC words using these letters? e.g. c-a-t, p-i-t. How many can you make?

  2. Make flashcards for our learned high frequency words. Can you read these and try to write them by yourself?

  3. Can you write the numbers 0-10 using correct formation and in the right order? Post any photos of you carrying out this work.

Primary 5B – WB 23.11.20

Dear readers,

Apologies for being late, but I have been having some technical issues that will hopefully be sorted now.😊

We hope you are all very well and that you have had a good week.😃

Congratulations to our Hot Chocolate at home girl, for always setting an amazing example of good behaviour and hard work to our class:

Well done, Tanya!!!!!!👍🥇

We also congratulate Zak, Hanna and Liam for having shown how Ready, Respectful, Safe and helpful they are!

This week we have continued learning a lot about the Wars of Independence between Scotland and England and have done beautiful art work for our new class display. We would really like to show it to you but due to the technical issues, we have not been able to upload the pictures! We have also completed our second timelines about it and they are looking really good!

In Literacy, we have used for the first time the tool we had learned about last week, the Descriptive Bubble, to write sentences that describe a very famous and beautiful wave, the Wave of Kanagawa. Also in Literacy, we have learned about Similes and got to write our own sentences with similes, which was quite interesting.

In Maths, we have had a week full of multiplication, times tables and also money, since it is very important to know how to manage it very well!

As we will be continuing our intensive work with multiplication it would be great if you could practise your 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 tables up to times 10. Next week will hopefully finish off with our Big Maths, Beat That and also with our tables challenge and we would really like it if everyone knew theirs well! Practice, practice, practice is the recipe for perfection! And remember the strategies we have learned in class if you don’t know them to start off with: multiplication is repeated addition so we keep on adding and will get to our answer, it’s easy! Just takes practice, and hard work, of course! Also, no excuses! That should be independent work and you only need yourselves to do it! And to be true masters at it!

In P.E., Mrs Lafferty has, as always, been making sure we keep fit… and tired! 🤣🤣🤣

Mrs Morrison said that she has been having amazing demonstrations of good rhythm and seemed very proud of our class’ work!🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵

We have also spent the whole week practising our new spelling words and the results have been even better than last week, which is always very good to see! Once again, let’s wait to find out about this week’s score on Monday!😃

Every day we watch Newsround and after that, to demonstrate how good our listening skill are, we have to answer to questions from Mrs Valente, so that we can get points or Recognition board sticky notes when we get them right. This week we have learned a lot about the meaning of Thanksgiving in the USA and Mrs Valente was explaining a lot of what happened in the old days and why they started celebrating it.

We hope you have had a really nice time reading about some of the things we have done this week and also that you have a happy, peaceful and safe weekend!

Love from Primary 5B and Mrs Valente!❤❤❤

Primary 1A Learning Update 27th November 2020

Another great week in P1A and lots of hard work going on!

This week we have been learning a new sound, it is the sound ‘e’.  We learned to write the letter and we have been writing words with ‘e’.  We are getting really good at sounding out and blending the words.

We read the book ‘Robot Rumpus’ and then we drew our own helpful robot.  We had to write about our robot and say what it did.  We learned new word boost words, ask us what they are and what they mean.

In maths we have been making stories for 6, 7 and 8. On Thursday we played a game outside to help us practice our number stories.  Some of our classmates held up big Uno cards and when Miss Stebbing shouted out a sum we had to run to the right number.  We have also been learning about money.  Next week we are going to have a shop in our classroom.

This week we started to learn our songs for the Christmas Assembly.  We are not singing the songs we are doing sign language and we are going to act out a special version of the Nativity Story.  Miss Stebbing is very impressed with how well we can copy the signs.

Remember to post a photo of your Robot on Seesaw.  You will be talking to your classmates next week about your Robots so a photograph will help you.

Have a lovely weekend!

Primary 7A – Weekly Update

It’s been a technology filled week in Primary 7a!  The children have been focusing on improving their digital skills and our visitor Miss Gibson, very kindly worked with them on how to use One Note, which will be particularly helpful when they go to high school.  The children also had the opportunity to carry out some coding.  They thoroughly enjoyed it and we hope to build on these skills in the coming weeks.

Literacy

We completed our writing for the nature writing competition this week.  Mrs Craig has sent of our entries, so keep your fingers and toes crossed that we might have a winner from the class!  Although, all of the children worked so hard and produced such wonderful work, that they are all winners in our eyes.

Maths

We continued to work on perimeter and area, investigating the relationship between the two and finding the area and perimeter of compound shapes.  We also continued our work on multiplying and dividing decimals.

Here are a few pictures of us drawing and measuring compound shapes in the playground.

Topic

The children’s  Japan personal projects are progressing well and we look forward to hearing their presentations in the coming weeks.  They also spent some time comparing Japan and the UK, with a particular focus on cleanliness.

Lead Learners and Writers of the Week

We all could not believe it when our lead learners and our writers of the week were the same two people – Luke L and Dawid.  Both boys produced excellent pieces of writing and have worked hard to improve their writing skills.  They have also been doing a fantastic job of leading the class in their learning and helping them to meet the targets set.  We are only 6 marbles away from receiving our class reward so keep it up P7A!

Daily Mile

We continue to add up the miles for Father Simon’s challenge.  The children are really challenging themselves to improve and to beat their own record.

We hope you all have a happy and restful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week.

MrsCraig and Mrs Morrison

P6B Update

A great week of learning in primary 6!

Numeracy/Maths

This week we continued our work on multiples and factors, which we’re all doing brilliantly with and making great connections. We moved onto finding a fraction of an amount which the children have really enjoyed and engaged with. I have added some resources on the class’ team page to support their understanding.

Literacy

In literacy we have been learning how to write expositions (persuasive texts), the class have been writing on why they think children should or should not be astronauts and they have made very compelling arguments both for and against.

R.E

We were excited to continue learning about the Missio Charity this week and started designing Christmas cards for the charity.

Comments

The children have said:

“I really enjoyed making our Christmas window design” – Charlotte

“I enjoyed doing Kahoot quizzes on maths, literacy and space” – Owen, Mark and Hesham

“I really enjoyed writing and reading Charlie and the chocolate factory” – Beth

We were excited playing Kahoot

We loved starting our Christmas displays

We have had a great week of learning in P6B this week! I hope you all have a great weekend, I look forward to seeing you all on Monday! Stay safe.

Weekly update Primary 6a

A fantastic week of learning in Primary 6!

Lead learners: Erin and Luke D have worked well together to create 3 targets for us to focus on this week and also awarded points to children they have noticed being ready, respectful and safe.

Literacy: We continued to work on sentence structure with a focus on the subject, object and predicate. In our writing we planned our journey to Space. We created our own spaceships to travel in and designed our suitcase which included all the important things we would bring. Some of us even created our own planets we would visit. Here are some examples below.

Maths: This week we have been working on multiples and factors. We also enjoyed some problem solving and word problems through basic equations.

R.E: We have been learning more about the Missio charity and the work that they do. We created Mission prayers and finished our Nativity art work for the competition next week. We are ready to post our work and very proud of how they turned out.

Rights of the child: Our focus this week was article 16 the right to privacy. We had great class discussions around this and were able to write about how to put this in place in our lives.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Roy
