Primary 5A Weekly Update 27th November 2020

This week in Primary 5A we have been really busy learning with Mrs Lea, Mrs Ogunro and Mrs Egan.

One thing we have enjoyed learning this week:

Zahra S – learning about and designing tartan

Zara R – learning about money in maths

Ruqayyah – learning about St Andrew in RME

Something new we learned this week:

Tanvi – we learned about the Great Wave and wrote about this using a descriptive bubble

Jaagruti – we learned to multiply larger numbers

Lewis – we learned some new facts about St Andrew

Something which challenged us this week:

JJ – we did some work on doubling which was tricky

Katie – some of the times tables we worked with were tricky

Lily – we did some research on King Alexander III

Our lead learners were Junaid and Millan.  This week they noticed that their class had been working well on multiplication and writing.  They noticed that “the class are good at showing that we are ready to learn, that we have been respectful to all of the teachers that have helped us this week and that we have been safe in the playground.”

P1B Virtual Classroom Week Beginning 23rd November

Click on the picture to have a look at our Virtual Classroom.  Here you will see the sounds, frequency words and numbers we are working on it class.  It is very important that we practise these for 5-10 minutes every day.

  1. Can you identify our learned sounds m, c, s, p, a, t, i, k, n, o and write the letters?  Can you make any CVC words using these letters?  e.g. c-a-t, p-i-t  How many can you make?
  2. Make flashcards for our learned high frequency words.  Can you read these and try to write them by yourself?
  3. Can you write the numbers 0-10 using the correct formation and in the right order?

Primary 5A Learning Highlights.

Another busy  and successful week in primary 5A!

Literacy  We have been looking at a new technique for improving our descriptive writing and our class really enjoyed it although it was quite challenging! We used something  called the “descriptive bubble” to help us with our writing. So far, we have completed our planning sheets and are going to have an opportunity to write our paragraph describing fire next week. We are all looking forward to it!

Numeracy We have been concentrating on two step word problems involving addition and subtraction. Primary 5 have been learning the specific vocabulary that provides the clue to choosing the correct operation to solve the problem. We have had fun explaining our strategies to each other.

Topic  We  completed our timeline based on the Scottish Wars of Independence. It enabled us get an overview of the whole topic before we look at each area in more depth. Our class has also been designing and creating our own coat of arms. They look amazing and will form part of our class display.

Hot Chocolate Award Congratulations to Liam, who was nominated for the hot chocolate award this week!

P6B Update

A great week of learning in primary 6!

Numeracy/Maths

We have been learning about multiples and factors and improving the speed and accuracy of our times tables. This has been helpful when working on equivalent fractions. This week we have been learning about road safety and we learned how to calculate the speed, distance and time by completing some word problems, this really got us thinking! The class also used simple charts and graphs to record
and analyse data about their journeys to school during road safety week.

Road Safety week

This week we have been learning about road safety and how to keep ourselves and others safe and how this has changed over time.

IDL

We designed our new space display and it looks great, we have been discussing very interesting facts about the planets in our solar system. We have discovered that some planets have soooo many moons, this is something that interested the whole class.

Literacy

This week we learned, discussed, evaluated and decided on various issues and viewpoints surrounding road safety and how to convey our ideas, decisions and beliefs through a classroom debate and beyond. We drafted a persuasive letter to a local MP to convince the government to reduce speed limits in the places we live and the children made very compelling, factual arguments. At the end of the week, we gathered all the information we learned on road safety and the class explored the concept of fairness and how people decide what is fair and unfair, and explored the process of debate and compromise in group decision-making. Great work, P6!

R.E

We were excited to learn more about the Missio Charity this week, we learned the Missio together prayer and then created our own acrostic prayers. We are excited to continue our work on this.

A message from Mr Pentland

This week the class have been brilliant and have engaged so well in their learning. We continued our work with anti-bullying week and the conversations, comments, advice and stories were great to hear. I especially liked:

If someone thought I was bullying them I would be very annoyed!

Why would you be annoyed?

Because I have made someone feel so bad that they would used the word bullying and I have not been the best version of myself.

This very mature comment was agreed universally and I am so impressed with the attitude and patience the children have with each other during these discussions.

I look forward to seeing you all on Monday! Stay safe!

Weekly update Primary 6a

A great week of learning in primary 6!

Lead learners: Ellie and Is-Haaq have worked together to come up with three targets to remind us to be ready, respectful and safe.

Well done to Ellie for also working extremely hard in class and at home on her homework. Her fantastic efforts meant that Ellie was our Hot chocolate at home winner this week too!

Maths: We have been learning about multiples and factors and improving the speed and accuracy of our times tables. This has been helpful when working on equivalent fractions. We also took part in a mini maths quiz to see how well we had remembered fractions, decimals and percentages over the last few weeks. This week we have been learning about road safety and we learned how to calculate the speed, distance and time by completing some word problems, this really got us thinking!

Road Safety week: This week we have been learning about road safety and how to keep ourselves and others safe.

IDL: We have learned lots of interesting facts about each planet!

Literacy: This week we have continued to work on our spelling patterns at home and in class. We have been learning about the subject and object in sentences and we were able to identify them and successfully include them in our writing. We have been enjoying our new topic Space and received a letter from an alien. We were able to respond to this by learning about the structure of a letter and writing about what it is like to live on Earth.

R.E/Art: We were excited to learn more about the Missio Charity and take part in their Christmas art competition. We are working on our masterpieces and look forward to sending them off in the post soon.

Have a great weekend and stay safe,

Mrs Roy

Primary 5B – WB 16.11.20

Dearest readers,

We hope you have had a really good week!

Today we start by congratulating our Hot Chocolate at home girl, for setting an amazing example to our class:

Well done, Susanna!!!!!!👍🥇🥳

We also congratulate Monique, Ethan and Mohid for having shown how they can be Ready, Respectful, Safe and also kind to others!

This week we found out about some of the first episodes on the Wars of Independence and we can confidently say that our boys and girls enjoyed so much this that they could all retell what they had learned so far! Super impressive! Well done to all of us!👍😃👏 We have completed the first of three parts of a Timeline describing the most important events of these wars and we are now finishing off our Scottish coats of arms, which already look amazing!🎨

We continue reading The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and continue very excited about it!

In Literacy, we have learned about a brilliant tool that we can use to write descriptive texts which is called The Descriptive Bubble and we have managed to give amazing examples about each and every one of the items of the bubble so that next week we will be able to build our first descriptive text using this technique.

Also in Literacy, we have been developing our reading comprehension skills with lots of inferential questions and have also been improving our ability to answer with full answers, and never forgetting the correct punctuation, of course.

In Maths, we have had a week full of word problems, some of them really, really tricky but all very good to wake us up and put our brains thinking! We  have also had daily subtraction and addition up to 6 digit exercises to make sure that we become even more clever than what we already are!

In P.E., Mrs Lafferty has, as always, been making us work so much that we come back to class feeling super happy and super exhausted!😴😴😴

We have also spent the whole week practising our new spelling words and have become really good at them. Let’s wait to find out about this week’s score on Monday!😃

Every day we watch Newsround and after that, to demonstrate how good our listening skill are, we have to answer to questions from Mrs Valente, so that we can get points or Recognition board sticky notes when we get them right. It is all very exciting!

On a Friday, we start our day with Big Maths, Beat that and also with our Weekly Spelling assessment and we try to do our best!

We had a special treat again this week and got to spend a bit of time in the woodlands building our knots and crosses games and playing them! But for that we had to find 4 sticks approximately the same size and also 2 different sets of 5 similar pieces that each one of us could use to play! It was very enjoyable to see the way Primary 5B managed to get lots of different sets of things, all of them collected from Nature! We had leaves, pebbles, little wee sticks, etc…

We hope you have had a really nice time reading about what we have done this week and also that you have a happy and safe weekend!

Love from Primary 5B and Mrs Valente!❤
