P2B Week Beginning 6th September 2021

Hello SJO Families,

Some highlights from P2B this week:

Kacper enjoyed playing on the iPads using an app called ‘chatterpix’. He said it was fun to take photos of his friend and use a funny voice to practice counting in tens.

Aaeryn-Leigh had fun playing the popcorn game, taking turns to pick out a piece of popcorn and reading the letter. She thought it was so funny when someone got a ‘pop’ and we had to start all over again.

Matthias liked going up to the woodlands to find sticks and compare the sizes. He also enjoyed working in teams to try and make the longest line of sticks.

Amelia loved PE this week as she had so much fun playing with the hula hoops, throwing it up and catching it.

Michael said that he liked everything we done this week with his favourite activity being the magic bag for literacy, when he took turns with his friends to pull out an object and say what sound it started with. He was happy that it started with a ‘M’ like his name.

My highlight was PE as I also love hula hoops, we had a little competition to see who could spin it round their wrist the longest which was great fun and then Sean was teaching me how to throw the hula hoop forward and get it to roll back to me – he was a great teacher!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend 😊

P2A Week Beginning 6th September 2021

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Yellow Table:

Paige liked the teamwork challenge we had in the woodlands where each child had to collect one stick and the team that made the longest line with their sticks won!

Eva loved her responsibility of being one of the Lead Learners this week.  Her favourite job was giving out the dinner tickets.

Ruari enjoyed the celebration of Mary’s birthday on Wednesday.  We made birthday cards, learned actions to help us learn the Hail Mary prayer and also wrote sentences about her during Story Writing.

Aiden G also liked learning the actions for the Hail Mary.

Kyle liked it when Mrs Dickie took the class for PE.  He liked the games they played.

My highlight was the fantastic teamwork I saw in the class when the children made posters about their rights.  We focused on the right to learn this week and the children were aghast to see pictures of Victorian classrooms with no smartboards or children’s work on the wall.  The boys sat together and the girls sat together and you may have been made to wear a dunce’s hat if you were naughty or did not get questions right.  They were also shocked to hear that children were also hit in school back then!  Lots of interesting comparisons were made.  They were very relieved to hear how it is against the law for children to be hit today.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and some of the nice weather we had this week remains.

P7A’s Learning Week

Dear parents.

This week we have been working on place value for maths, a science experiment about germs and writing.

We enjoyed our drama lesson about a ‘bad guy’ called Frank Miller, music with Mrs Morrison and ERIC(everyone reading in class) time every afternoon. We also do PE (fitness) on Monday and Wednesday and the Daily Km or Daily Mile every day depending how far we can go in 10minutes.

This week’s outdoor learning was about using the slack line and orienteering.

Things we enjoyed the most about this week were outdoor learning, drama and science, we also liked maths – learning about money and for writing we wrote a story about a shark attack.

P1A Learning Highlights 10th September 2021

This week we have been learning about number 5.  We can now write the number 5, we can make it on our fingers in lots of different ways and we can count it out.

Our sound this week has been ‘m’. We can name lots of words that have ‘m’ sometimes it is at the start and sometimes it is at the end.  We have been practising writing ‘m’.  We used red pencils because we make the sound with our lips. Our common word this week was ‘my’.

This week we started doing Dough Disco.  It is fun!  It helps us make our fingers strong for writing.

In art we made monsters with paint and put detail in with felt tip pen.  We then did some writing using our descriptive bubble.

During outdoor learning we got to play with the tyres, chalk and on the Pirate Ship.  We had to remember to keep each other safe.

Our personal learning highlights this week are:

Shay – I enjoyed playing with the trains.

Caleb – I liked playing with the transformers.

Ollie – I liked playing outside.

Jiade – I liked playing with the puppets.

Laura – I liked building the marble run.

Vivien – I liked colouring in the monster colouring pages.

I was very proud of all of P1A for trying so hard with their formation of number 4 and 5 this week.  They have all been trying  hard to write them the correct way.  Have a lovely weekend!

P4A Blog for the Week!

Hello

Primary 4A have settled really well into our new classrooms and wanted to share some of our learning this week.

PE with Mrs Lafferty has been great fun – we have been learning how to skip and are really enjoying that we get longer for our PE time.  We are being respectful by learning how to put the ropes away properly and playing “The Weakest Gazelle”  Nikola and Mrs Lafferty have been a competition to see who can skip for the longest!  Mrs Lafferty is still winning but Nikola is determined to win and has been doing extra practice at home!!!

Francesca’s highlight this week has been logging onto the glow also sending e-mails to Mrs Callaghan.  Next week we are learning how to get on to Teams.  Everyone is very excited about it!

Our class novel is called “The Boy Who Grew Dragons” and Bentley liked drawing dragon eyes for our Art activity.  We used hot colours for the eye and cold colours for their scales.  We are putting them on the classroom wall next to Liliana’s table.

Farrah liked learning about Time and worked hard to read digital clocks as well as analogue clocks.  We are working on quarter to times and next week we are going to begin times in 5 minutes steps!

We have made people for our Ready, Respectful and Safe display in the classroom.  We all know what these mean and are working hard to show them at all times in the school.  We are hoping to win the Top Table award!

Emili is really enjoying our study of Inside Out.  We have been talking and sharing about the different emotions and how our body reacts and how we might behave, thinking about what we can control and what we can’t.

We also made cards this week for Mary who celebrated her birthday on Wednesday 8th September!

We are looking forward to next week and lots more learning and fun!

P2A Week Beginning 30th August 2021

Hello everyone!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Red Table:

Olivier liked drawing flowers during ‘Choosing Time’.

David loved when we wrote our name on God’s palms for our RE display.

Joe enjoyed handwriting when we revised how to form ‘c, a and d’ correctly.  He loved the station where he formed the letters using dot art.

Aiden S said his highlight was when we went to the woods and found Numicon 10 pieces hanging from branches.  We made piles of them and then used them for some maths games.

David K liked our Word Boost story ‘Who is at the Door?’ this week.  His favourite word boost words was ‘disguise’.

Zosia loved the lesson with Mrs Morrison during music.

My highlight has to have been the children’s excitement over the paint bags that Ollie and I made together for a handwriting station.  Some of them have glittery paint in them.  The children were so excited to use them and were careful not to squeeze them so they wouldn’t burst.  It was so tempting though as they were gooey and slimy and squishy inside! J

Thank you for all of your efforts with homework this week on Seesaw.  I hope everyone remembered how to use it ok after the summer break.  Please let me know if you are having any difficulties or need support to use this fantastic learning resource.

Have a good weekend!
