Primary 6A

This week we have been reading our class novel ‘The Last Wolf’ and used Word Boost activities to develop our understanding of the challenging vocabulary. As part of Scottish Maths Week we enjoyed taking part in the West Lothian Sumdog Competition and learning how to round to six and seven digits using playing cards.

During out Outdoor Learning we had fun using natural resources (twigs, leaves, stones) to show our knowledge of maths. We created times tables grids and place value grids.

Our Topic this term is investigating the importance of ancient civilisations in our daily lives. We started to collate information to write a report on the Ancient Greeks. We have explored the rights of women and children, slavery and democracy.

We have continued to explore how our emotions can help us to be better learners when we understand how we are feeling and strategies that help us be calm/happy. We also discussed our own personalities, talents and abilities and how they help us to be confident learners and effective contributors to our class learning.

We have continued to learn about Children’s Rights and next week we are looking forward to our Assessment to become a Silver Award Rights Respecting School.

P2B Highlights – Week beginning 27th October 2021

This week in P2B for our topic, When Our Grandparents Were Young, we have been learning about the first Supersonic flight which took place in 1977. The children loved watching the plane take off and then had fun making their own paper planes. We then had a few lessons linking to planes and pretended to book a class trip from London to New York (which is the journey that the supersonic flight made).

The Blue table shared their highlights from this week:

Daniel – I liked making my passport because it was super fun.

Nicolas – The Shape hunt with the tally marks was fun because I found all of the triangles.

Aleksander – I liked the Javelin throwing (pretending it was a plane) because it was fun and I won first place. We learned about first, second, third in maths.

Rowan – Booking the pretend trip to New York was really funny and I like that all of us are going with Miss Lawrence.

Moeez – I liked the passport lesson because it was fun to make and show our passports to the class.

Sean – Passports too because I liked making it and it was very fun.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence

Primary 6B Learning highlights

Good afternoon!

Some of the learning highlights this week in Primary 6B:

Numeracy and Maths: We created our own Maths board games using the skills we have been working on this term. We then played our games which helped us to work on addition, subtraction, rounding, times tables and place value while having fun.

Literacy: We have continued to read our class novel ‘Wonder’ together and have learned more about the main characters which we used in our writing too.

Health and Wellbeing: We have been learning about zones of regulations. This week we learned what each of the colours mean and what coping skills we have to help us manage our feelings. We created zones of regulation fortune tellers which we have taken home to remind us of the coping skills. We also took part in our health and wellbeing check in.

IDL: We researched ancient Greece and learned lots of new and interesting facts.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Roy

P1B Learning Highlights 1st October 2021

This week in P1B we have been learning the sound and letter ‘s’.   It is a light blue colour and we make the sound using our tongue.  We made spiral snakes and snakes out of paper chains.  These activities helped us to continue to develop our fine motor skills.

We have been learning all about the numbers 7 and 8. We have been working very hard at learning how to form these numbers correctly.  We have also been looking at 2D shapes.  We made shapes using lollypop sticks and also created pictures using coloured paper shapes.

In our Writing lesson this week we wrote about things that we like.  Mrs Russell was very proud of all our hard work and we have been trying hard to remember to use a full stop at the end of our sentence.

Some of our highlights:

I liked playing outside (Olivia)

I liked making the snakes (Maja)

I liked playing with the blocks (Ishaan)

I liked playing with my friends (Reesa)

I liked painting S (Georgia Rose)

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and we look forward to learning more new things next week.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 1st October 2021

In phonics we learned the sound ‘s’.  We made snakes with spots, stripes and squiggles.  We decorated socks with lots of letter ‘s’ and made sure they were very colourful.  In the purple tray we had spaghetti to make the ‘s’ shape.

In maths we have learned about number 7 and 8.  Ask us how we write these correctly.  We learned about repeating patterns and we made these with lots of different things.

This week we have been learning about our sense of touch and smell.  We had to do a smell test and guess what it was.  We did very well.  For touch we had a feely bag and we could only use our skin to touch, we couldn’t look to see what it was.

Some of our personal highlights are:

Aadya – I learned about writing my numbers the right way.

Laura – I learned about colouring in.

Diana – I learned about playing with my friends.

Vivien – I learned about playing with others.

Caleb – I learned about counting up to 20.

Zion – I learned about being safe.

P2A Week Beginning 20th September 2021

Hello everyone!

Despite it being a shorter week, P2A have squeezed in lots of learning!  Here are the highlights of the week according to the Green Table:

Nathan liked art with Mrs Brand.  The children have been learning that at this time of the year, end of Summer, we celebrate ‘Harvest Festival’.  We celebrate and pray for farmers everywhere who provide us with our food.  The children completed a still life drawing of fruit and paid particular attention to the shape, size, textures and colours of the fruit.  Look out for the upcoming Seesaw post showing these super still life drawings!

Emily loved playing the ‘Line’ game during PE with Mrs Lafferty.

Kayla enjoyed listening to 70s music.  Some of the grandparents, during their interviews, have mentioned the music they listened to when they were young. So far we have listened to music from The Beatles and The Bay City Rollers.  Kayla liked The Bay City Rollers best!  We look forward to listening to the interviews that are still to take place.

Ben liked the song ‘I’m the Farmer, Yes I am’ as part of our learning about the Harvest Festival.

Isabel loved learning how to play the drums with Mrs Morrison.  So far the children have learned how to hold a drum stick properly and use it to repeat a rhythm.

Pola enjoyed using the clipboards during an information-gathering lesson.  The children have been learning how to conduct a survey and record results using tally marks.  The clipboards where an easy way for the paper to stay in place during the survey.

My highlight has to have been the lessons about climate change.  The children have been learning about the very important COP26 meeting that will take place in Glasgow during November.  We talked about what we can do as individuals to help our planet.  These lessons will be ongoing.

P7B Update

🎉🎉

Our short week after the long weekend flew in. We had a great time learning! Here are some reflections:

Numeracy

We reviewed what we already knew this week about rounding and checked our understanding of inverse (addition & subtraction, multiplication & division). We also had a numeracy knowledge check to support and move forward in our learning! We showed some of this understanding by making numeracy posters. Vivaan, Sneha and Hesham really enjoyed this and are excited to continue this next week!

Kuba and Vihaan enjoyed literacy this week continuing our work on narrative and character description! We have shown good understanding during our literacy knowledge checks this week too!

Emily and John enjoyed stem this week with Mrs Roy and had a lot of fun learning about bridges and thinking like an engineer.

Alicja and Nikola enjoyed working in groups this week! They enjoyed learning with their friends.

Mr Pentland and the class enjoyed our work on climate change and what this actually means! We had a lot of fun acting out shortwave radiation, longwave radiation and greenhouse gases and demonstrated what is meant by ‘the greenhouse effect’. A special thanks to Lucy (the sun) and John (the earth), Oscar worthy performances!!

Another great week of learning! I am excited to continue our learning next week, have a great weekend. See you all on Motivation Monday!

Learning highlights from P6B

Here are some of the learning highlights from P6B this week.

Numeracy and Maths: This week we have enjoyed using our skills of addition and subtraction in problem solving tasks. We also learned about calendars and timetables and how they are useful in our lives for keeping us organised.

Literacy: We are progressing well with our class novel ‘Wonder’ and created description bubbles on different characters.

COP 26: We have been learning about what COP26 is and we took part in the survey. We had a chance to say how much we believed climate change would have an affect on our rights and it also helped us think of ways we can tackle climate change.

Art: We created lovely Autumn pictures using chalk, here are some below:

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Roy
