P4A Learning this week

We have had a great time this week.  For numeracy we are working on multiplication and practicing some of our times tables.  We enjoyed exploring patterns that the times tables make and playing board games using our times tables.  We have also been doing lots of counting in groups.

In January, we are focusing on scots language and this week we explored the poem ‘A Dug, A Dug’ by Bill Keys.  We really liked looking at the scots words and seeing if we could work out what the word would be in English.  We made a picture dictionary to help us with the new words and some of our favourites have been hoose, breeks and mingin.

As part of our topic this term we are learning about some Scottish landmarks and started this week by looking at Edinburgh Castle.  We are using our learning about this to create a PowerPoint presentation, learning how to use PowerPoint for images and texts and are looking forward to learning how to add animations to our PowerPoint.   We also used chalk pastels to create castles, thinking about the main features that castles have.

For music we have been looking at different Scottish instruments with Mrs Morrison.  This week we looked at different types of Accordion.

In our Spanish learning, we have been learning the names of the different parts of our bodies and had good fun acting along with the song Cabeza, Hombros, Rodillas y Pies (Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!)

Looking forward to lots of new learning next week!

P6A Weekly Update 7th January 2022

Happy New Year.

This term we will be investigating the life and work of Robert Burns but also the country we live in Scotland – finding features from mythology to geography.

We will be continuing to develop our knowledge of Fractions, Decimals and Percentages this term. We all need to keep practising our times tables as this will be a great help when learning new things in math.

We are able to have PE indoors. Pupils can bring a change of shoes in their bags for this as doing PE in boots and outdoor winter shoes is not comfortable.

Have a great weekend (in the snow)

P6A Weekly Update 22nd December 2021

Only three days but WOW we filled them with fun (and some learning 🙂 )

On Monday morning we had great fun creating math board games. First we had to reflect on our learning in math since we started in Primary 6. Next we chose a sensible partner or partners to design and create our game with. The hardest part was writing out questions for other people to answer.

We also learned some Spanish Christmas Phrases in the afternoon before going to the hall with Mrs McKissack for some dancing and games. Mrs Miller shared out some lovely party food when we came back and we had more dancing.

On Tuesday morning we finished off our maths games and had good fun playing with them. We had our final music lesson (this year) with Mrs Morrison. In the afternoon we had a great Christmas Quiz then we played prodigy (practising maths skills whilst having fun)

At last Wednesday morning we spent tidying our trays and creating artwork while listening to Christmassy tunes. We also took part in the Christmas Assembly on Teams. We didn’t know just what fantastic dancers Mrs McKissack, Mrs Mclaughlin and Mrs Dickie are – AMAZING!

This afternoon we settled down to watch a Christmas movie with popcorn and juice.

It’s been a busy year so far and we are all looking forward to a relaxing Christmas Break (that might just be Mrs Miller 🙂 )

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. See you all in January.
