P1A Learning Highlights 19th November 2021

This week we have been celebrating Book Week Scotland.  We got our Bookbug bags and we were very excited.  We got to read our books in the area and with our Buddies!  We built towers with junk model boxes just like Inch and Grub.  We did a Draw Along with Catherine Raynor to draw Arlo the lion.  Our pictures were fantastic!

In maths we were measuring the lengths of different animals that live in the ocean.  We had to go outside the see how long the Blue Whale is.  It is 24 metres long!  We have been practising our adding using the numicon.

Our Nativity practices are going well and we are getting very good at singing all the songs.  We now know what part we will be playing and we had a chance to practice on our stage area.

Some of our personal highlights are

Jiade – My favourite book was Inch and Grub.

Diana – I liked reading the Lion Who Couldn’t Sleep.

Caleb – I liked when I got to do Wriggly Nativity.

Aadya – Inch and Grub was my favourite book.

Rory – I liked playing with the Avenger lego.

Vivien – I liked reading Inch and Grub because it was a good book.

Primary 3B Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

We have had a very busy week in P3B!

As it is Anti-Bullying week, we have been focusing on how to be kind to others and what to do if someone is being unkind to us.  We even got some advice from Horrid Henry and his friends!

This week was also Book Week Scotland.  Unfortunately, we have not received enough Book Bags for all of the Primary 3 children yet, however as soon as they arrive, the children will receive these.  We have looked at the books that are in the bags and looked at the different materials they will receive.  The children really enjoyed the stories, especially Octopus Shocktopus!  On Wednesday, the children were authors for the day and made their very own books, including front covers and blurbs.  They really are fantastic!

In Maths, we have been continuing to work on addition and the children are working hard to improve their mental addition skills.  We have also been looking at tessellation where the children have been identifying examples of where you may see tessellation in every day life, Paige even noticed that there was tessellation on the soles of her shoes!  Ask them if they can find an example around the house.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Craig and Mrs Robson

P7a Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

This week has been a busy week!

We worked on integers in maths, adding and subtracting negative numbers.

In writing, we wrote recounts about ‘Conker Hunt’, retelling of when we went up to Dechmont to find conkers.

Outdoor learning we had cameras and took pictures of nature around the playground as part of our attempt to earn the Platinum Award from The Woodlands Trust.

Mrs Broadley was really pleased with how well we worked in Spanish on Thursday afternoon.

On Friday we began to get organised for our class assembly for St. Andrews Day and we also saw our buddies and read to them for Book Week Scotland.

P2B Week Beginning 15th November 2021

P2B have had a fantastic week. It is book week so we have been reading the stories ‘The Bug Collector’ and ‘The Biggest Story’ and doing lots of activities linked to them. The children are excited to get their own book bug bag home today so they can read the stories at home!

After reading both books the children had to decide which book they liked best and we made a tally chart to find out which was the most popular. The children also shared why they liked that book the best. Here are the findings…

The Biggest story was the most popular!

Highlights from the red table:

Matthias – I liked PE when we were playing disco tig and then dribbling balls to play rob the nest.

Aaeryn-Leigh – I liked reading the books for book week. The biggest story was my favourite because I liked the dinosaurs and it was magical that they were talking.

Michael – I liked doing tally marks in maths to see which book is better. I liked the biggest story because it has monkeys on the chair and that’s funny.

Jayden – I liked going on the bug hunt because we found so many bugs – I found the spider.

Kacper – I liked drawing my comic book story about the stormy sea because it was fun.

Amelia – I liked going to the zebra crossing because it was fun going on a walk and crossing the road.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence

P7A Update!

Dear Parents,

For the last three weeks we’ve been busy with all the things we’ve been doing.

Here is a picture of our science lesson with Dr MacAllister. We were finding out what the best insulator was.

Here is when Mr Pentland came in and we made a 3D paper bear model and had to communicate to put it all together.

What we are doing here is we were ‘dooking’ for apples because it was the Friday before halloween. This was the same day we saw our buddy’s. We all had out on individual tub of water.

There was also a Sumdog competition and we got 2nd place out of all West Lothian. We got prizes.

We also done our SNSA’s and we all done really well on them.

We had our outdoor learning and we had to take pictures of nature so we could work towards getting our Platinum award from the Woodlands Trust.

P2A Week Beginning 8th November

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Yellow Table:

Pola loved making poppies for Remembrance Day.

Eva enjoyed learning Spanish with Mrs Brand.  The children learned the phrases for ‘sit down, stand up, silence and listen’.

Aiden G loved our Nativity rehearsals that started this week.  The children have been learning the songs and have done very well to remember all the words and actions!  They are very excited to find out their roles next week!

Rurai said his favourite part was music with Mrs Morrison as it involved watching a movie!

Pagie was overjoyed to find out that she was chosen to be a Lead Learner!  She jumped for joy!

My highlight has to have been our Nativity Rehearsals.  The children were so excited to hear that the story of the baby Jesus being born is the greatest story ever told in all the world and that they were helping to tell it with their singing and acting.  Look out for a costume letter going home early next week with your child’s role named on it.  These are very exciting times in Infants!  We are honoured to be part of the retelling of this very special story of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
