P6A Weekly Update 3.12.21

This week was the beginning of our Advent Season and this morning joined an assembly on Teams to celebrate the blessing of the crib by Father Simon. We have been busy developing and evidencing our knowledge for the Pope Francis Faith Award and are beginning to create a large wall display outside the classroom which all P6 and P7 pupils will contribute to over the coming months. We have also been busy decorating our classroom window with candles and a scene from Bethlehem. We finished our Climate Change artwork and it is now on display around the classroom. We are still working on our Climate Activist research which we hope to finish next week.

In our writing lessons this week and last week we explored the pros and cons for oil drilling and whether zoos should be banned. We are starting to think more deeply about the world around us. This week we have explored fractions but we also investigated the properties of 2D shapes by measuring their angles with protractors and how many different lines of symmetry each shape has.

In our Spanish lesson we working together to play Spanish Bingo to develop our vocabulary.

It’s been another very busy week. Have a peaceful weekend.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 3rd December 2021

We made snowmen for our window display and we have put up our Advent wreath that we made using our handprints.

On Monday a special teddy called Fuzzy came to our class with a special challenge.  We had to work together to make a jigsaw puzzle.  Our new topic is all about Toys and there were pictures of toys on the puzzle.  For writing we wrote sentences about Fuzzy using our describing bubble.

In maths we have been learning about money.  We had to put the coins in order, we sorted coins out into the right cups and we had to pay for ice lollies using the right coins.

We have been practising for our Nativity.  We are very good at remembering when to stand up, dance and say our lines.

Some of our personal highlights are:

Caleb – I enjoyed playing with the transformers.

Hasika – I enjoyed drawing pictures in creative zone.

Chimamanda – I enjoyed playing in the ice cream shop.

Jack – I liked playing tig outside.

Vivien – I enjoyed colouring in at creative zone.

Rory – I liked playing with the transformers.

Aadya – I liked drawing and colouring in at creative zone.

I am very proud of everyone’s writing this week.  They all managed to write a sentence about our teddy and used the descriptive bubble to help them.  It is great to see everyone trying to use their sounds to write words and most people remembered their full stops.

Have a lovely weekend!

Josh N: ‘ I liked reading the differences between life in Rwanda and life in the UK.’

Miss Smith’s highlights:

‘Is Takeaway a Good Food Option?’         ‘Should Children be Allowed to Own a Pet?’

‘Should Children Be Allowed to Wear What they Want?’

We can now all explain what an Opening Statement of a Discussion text has to include:

There are many arguments for and against whether….

Some believe that…….

However, some believe that …..

  • we need to include the word because to explain the most important reasons for the arguments for, and, the arguments against

P1A Learning Highlights 26th November 2021

This week we have been very busy practising for our Nativity.  The stage is now up and we got a chance to sit on the stage in our places.  The staff are very proud of how well we are doing with our singing, words and actions.  The best part is seeing all the great dancing!

In maths we have been learning about making stories for 7 and 8.  We used the Numicon to help us and we are getting very good at remembering the numbers that add to make 7 and 8.  We also started playing Eggs to Order on the Smartboard.  It can be tricky because the numbers are muddled up and we have to think carefully about where they go.

This week we learned two new sounds ‘b’ and ‘f’.  We are making words using the sounds we know.  The literacy activity trays changed this week and we have enjoyed using the Alphablocks lolly sticks to make words and practise our sounds.  In writing we made posters to tell people to keep our oceans clean. We watched a video about pollution in the oceans to help us.

Today we were very excited because the Christmas decorations have been put up in the area.  We also got an Advent Calendar from the PFA to help us count down to Christmas.

Some of our personal highlights are –

Aadya – I have enjoyed playing in creative zone.

Rory – I have enjoyed building things with the lego.

Vivien – I have enjoyed making things in creative zone.

Laura – I have enjoyed reading books.

Hasika – I liked seeing the Christmas decorations.

Caleb – I enjoyed playing with the transformers.

Linda – I enjoyed playing outside.

P2A Week Beginning 22nd November

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Green Table:

Nathan enjoyed our learning about the Water Cycle this week.  He found the part about how rain always makes its way to a collection of water very interesting.  This could be a river, stream, lake etc.

Babafola said his favourite part of the week was learning about how to feel happy when we feel sad.  We filled a toolbox full of ideas of things to do that will make us feel better.  Some ideas where: singing, listening to music, arts and crafts, a hug, playing with our toys, exercising, smiling…..The most important idea was the one about speaking to someone about how we are feeling.

Emily loved music with Mrs Morrison the best.

Ben like dancing at PE in preparation for the Christmas Party!

Kayla said she loved speaking into the microphone during our Nativity rehearsals.

Isabel liked being on the stage.  She said it is very high but Mrs Devlin reassured her that it was not too high and the more she practised on it, the more comfortable she would feel.

My highlight has to be the conversation about feelings and how we can feel better.  We started by listening to a story called ‘Giraffe’s Can’t Dance’ about a giraffe that was sad.  Well done P2A for your super ideas!  I hope you remember them the next time you want to feel better.
