P6B Learning highlights -Week beginning 7.2.22

Good afternoon,

A very busy week in Primary 6B, here are some highlights from our learning:

HWB: For mental health week we designed posters with lots of great advice on how to overcome different feelings and emotions.

It was also internet safety day at the beginning of the week. The main focus for this year is “All fun and games” which allows children to learn how to stay safe while playing games.

R.E: We completed our lessons on God’s loving plan and learned about St Valentine. We also made cards for our families to show our love and appreciation.

Numeracy and maths: This week we have been adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals. Well done to our wizards of the week and Sumdog winners Zak, Rupert and Mohid.

Literacy: We are becoming more confident writing information reports and began to write our reports based on Scottish landmarks and Famous Scottish people. This week we learned about the structure of the report and were able to write clear titles and general statements.

Over and above: Well done to our hot chocolate winner Anthony!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Roy

Primary 3B Update – 11.2.22

Dear Families,

In Topic this week, we have been looking at pictures of West Lothian in years gone by.  We discovered that the streets used to be much quieter, the rivers were used for swimming and that the schools had blackboards (I told the children this really was not that long ago).

In Maths, we have been continuing to work on multiplication.  If you could practise the times tables with your child at home, it would really help them to improve their speed of recall.

In literacy, we have been looking at the key features of an information report and next week we are going to try to write our own information report on Dragonfruit.  We are currently trying to find somewhere that sells them so that the children can give them a try.  If you see them anywhere, please let us know.

Learning Highlights:

Reyansh – I enjoyed learning how to multiply a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number.

Szymon – I enjoyed watching clips from the winter Olympics with Mrs Lafferty.

Daniel – I liked free writing Friday.  I wrote next chapter of my book called ‘The War’.

Alexa – I enjoyed playing games to practise my times tables with my partner.

Aiden – I liked making my poster for the Park Smart competition.

We hope you all have a lovely holiday weekend and we will see the children back at school next Wednesday.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 11th February 2022

This week in Literacy we have been revising all our sounds and common words.  We have also been practising listening for the last sound in words and reading three letter words.  For writing we have been learning about information reports.  We looked at a text about bikes and talked about the different sentences.  During reading we have been using the pointers to follow the words.

We have been busy making our entries for the Park Smart competition.  After watching a video about road safety we thought of some slogans for our posters.  Miss Stebbing was very impressed with our drawings.

In Maths we have been working on our subtraction strategies.  We have also been learning vocabulary about length including longest, shortest, smallest and tallest. In number talks we have been looking at 10 frames and discussing how we can see the dot patterns for 6.

During C.O.O.L (choosing our own learning) time the creative zone has been very busy.  We have been making valentine crafts and lots of us have been interested in drawing the Ninja Turtles.  Our Chinese Restaurant has also been very busy and we have been using the tables beside the role play area to set up a party.

We have finished our lessons for God’s Loving Plan and have been learning about the family of Jesus, Mary his mother and celebrating our own mums.

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Diana – I liked playing in the Chinese Restaurant.

Caiden – I liked to play with the Numberblocks.

Rory – I loved playing in Creative Zone.

Laura – I liked playing with everything.

Vivien – I liked building with the straws.

Ollie – I liked playing with the dragons.

Chimamanda – I liked playing in Creative Zone.

Aadya – I liked making things in creative zone and playing with the straws.

P6A Weekly Update 11th February 2022

This week we have been learning more about the organs in the Human Body and we are planning to write an information report next week.

Several children have complained about wet/cold feet due to the weather and they are sitting in their outdoor shoes all day. They would also find wearing indoor shoes more comfortable for PE as this is now in the school hall.

We will be continuing to develop our knowledge of multiplication and division using Fractions, Decimals and Percentages this term. Math Homework will be in Studyladder linked to classroom learning although pupils can still take part with Prodigy and Sumdog to practise skills as well.

Next week we will be research famous places around Scotland.

Have a great weekend.

P5A Learning Highlights Week Beginning 7.2.22

Pupil Highlights:

Josh N: I liked rounding a number with 2 decimals places to the nearest tenth and making our road safety posters.

Joshua: I liked doing weaving with Miss Elliot.

Adam: I liked doing the weaving with Miss Elliot.

Aoife: I liked doing the hanging sentences for our word boost words this week.

Inaya: I liked using the number line to round a decimal number to the nearest tenth.

Myles: I liked plotting the images on the compass task.

Marriyah: I liked highlighting the title, general statement, description and evaluation in 3 different information reports.

Natalia: I liked rounding amounts to the nearest pound and to the nearest ten pence.

Caleb: I liked rounding decimal numbers.

Teacher Highlights:

Literacy:

This week the pupils had to take a photo using their laptop of an example of an information report and upload it onto their sway. We discussed that an information report is most similar to a discussion text. Why? Because they are both giving information and describing the characteristics of something. However, in an information report, if you are writing about a person, it is not always necessary to describe the how they look. The description section always depends on what you are writing about !

Numeracy:

We can all round a number with two decimal places to the nearest whole number. We realised that we are only interested in the tenth digit. If it is 4 or less we round down but if it is 5 or more, we round up.

We can also round a number with two decimal places to the nearest tenth. We are only interested in the hundredth digit. We can use a number line to help us with this to show which two possible numbers are answer could be.

We have also created fantastic posters ”How to Stay Safe Online’ and learnt how to draw 3d cube to be part of the computer for our poster.

Hot Chocolate Winner: Daisy for always trying her hardest, being a very kind friend and always producing outstanding hanging sentences.

P2A Week Beginning 31st January 2022

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Blue Table:

Ollie enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year!  His favourite activity was trying to lift “noodles” with chopsticks.  I hope you all enjoyed the pictures on Seesaw.

Ella said her favourite learning experience this week was Time.  We revised ‘o’clock’ in both analogue and digital clocks and next week will move onto half past.

John liked our learning on the history of Livingston.  We heard how a key figure in our local history ‘Sir Patrick Murray’ is the reason why we have so many beautiful trees and plants in Livingston.  Next week we learn about another key figure in our local history, James Young and his role in the mining industry of Livingston.

Paige shared how she liked learning the joined up letters ‘an’ during handwriting with Mrs Morrison.

My highlight was seeing how interested the children were learning about the history of Livingston.  Zosia shared on Seesaw ‘de Leving’s Peel’ painted on canvas and David K shared his Peel having built it on Minecraft!  Amazing!  I also LOVED the baby pictures that were sent in for our ‘Guess the Baby’ game.  So many children looked exactly as they do now only smaller and every single one of them were so beautiful!  If you have yet to send in your picture then it is not too late.  I know your child is excited to share it with the class.

Primary 3A – WB 31.01.22

Dear Readers,

We hope you are all very well.

This week we have started learning about Information Reports and will continue working on them during the next few weeks. We have learned to identify the 4 different parts of an Information Report and have been thinking about what we would write for each of those parts. When answering to questions to check our Reading comprehension, we have been trying our best to, whenever asked, using full sentences, something that we still find a bit hard.

We continue working hard in our new weekly spelling words, always hoping to get good scores on Fridays!😃

We have been learning different strategies to help us with multiplication and are becoming really good at the 2, 5, and 10 timestables. In order to check how well we know our tables, and also to have a bit of fun, we enjoy playing interactive tables games.

For topic, we have located the West Lothian council in Scotland and discovered the magic and beauty of Linlithgow Palace, one of the many attractions of the authority.

In PE we are learning how to play tennis and have been enjoying it very much.

Finally, in Music, we listened to a beautiful concert of Scottish traditional music.

We hope you have enjoyed reading about some of the highlights of our week and wish you an amazing and safe weekend!😊
