Dear Families
Literacy
This week we continued working on exposition in our writing. We looked at an example of exposition and identified the features the author used. Then we wrote our own exposition text about litter. We were trying to persuade the reader to not drop litter.
Maths & Numeracy
We were learning how to measure things using a ruler and measuring tape. We were also learning how to solve sudoku puzzles, we found them quite tricky and we needed to work out where the numbers went. Although they were tricky we had fun.
We also had to use our problem solving skills this morning to solve a problem, it was kind of like sudoku but with coloured squares.
Learning Across the Curriculum
This week we got to choose what one of our topics will be later on in the term, we are excited that we had a choice in it.
On Tuesday we had a special PE lesson, we had some visitors from a local Judo club come into school and give us a little taster.
In Music with Mrs Morrison we have been learning some songs, for example ‘We don’t talk about Bruno’.
Pupil Highlight
Markuss – I enjoyed making bug houses during outdoor learning.
Amelia – I enjoyed the Judo in PE because I felt like a ninja.
Stefi – I enjoyed doing Simon Says at PE.
Mariam – I enjoyed doing the songs with Mrs Morrison.
Layla – I enjoyed doing music.

Our learning about Children Rights this week was Article 17 (access to information from the media): Every child has the right to reliable information from a variety of sources, and governments should encourage the media to provide information that children can understand. Governments must help protect children from materials that could harm them.
We investigated how to check information on a website or games platform to check if it was reliable and discussed how to report websites or unwelcome information on games platforms.
We prepared for our future outdoor learning by carrying out a stock check of spades, digging forks and different gardening tools. Next week we hope to start planting in reuseable items brought from home. e.g. wellington boots too small or with holes.
In math we have been revising symmetry and coordinates which we hope to be able to use as part of outdoor learning next week.
This week we began to find out about how democracy works. We had a virtual tour of the Scottish Parliament and found out that the Scottish Government are in charge or Devolved matters like, education, transport and health. But the UK Government are in charge of Reserved matters like the army.
We also began to draft our House/Vice Captain speeches using our persuasive language. We hope to finish these next week. Hopefully!
In RE this week we have revised our Pope Francis Faith Award and explored the Gift of Fortitude. Next week we will begin to explore the Gift Fear of the Lord.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the Holiday Monday.

We have had a super learning time in P4. We have been looking at traditional fairy tales and seeing them from an alternative perspective. We particularly enjoyed ‘The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig’. We used this to write an exposition (persuasive argument) about why the wolf isn’t bad. We have been working on Fractions for our maths and also looking at the area of shapes.
Liliana : “I liked doing PE today as we were doing races and we learned a saying for when you crouch down at the start of the race, call TTKnee”
Emily : “I liked making flowers using oil pastels. We used hot and cold colours to create contrast.”
Lucy : “I like doing maths. Working out the area was fun and using cm2 was fun”
Jacob : “I liked doing music because we got to sing and there was a lot of songs that we enjoy. We will miss having Mrs Morrison for music each week but Mrs Callaghan has a fantastic music project planned for us!”
Eilidh : “I liked writing about the wolf not being a big bad wolf because he was actually making a cake for his Granny and needed some sugar. It wasn’t his fault that he had a bad cold and his sneeze blew down their houses!”
Inaayah: “I really liked dong spelling this week. I liked that we learned a lot of new words using the ly pattern.”
Leo “I really liked working with my group to make a house that would keep the three little pigs safe. We used lots of different things and had to work out what to use and how to use it!”
We are looking forward to our day off on Monday and are hoping that the sun will shine for us!
Our hot chocolate winner this week is ……. Inaayah! Well done on being ready, respectful and safe at all times.
Our new reading champion is Carina for always being an on-task reader during ERIC time.

We have had a fantastic week in Primary 5.
Pupils highlights:
Marriyah: I liked writing our exposition piece of writing because it was hard but also fun.
Adam: I liked playing rounders because I like baseball and both are similar.
Olivier: I liked making Joshua’s face out of leaves and twigs we found in the woodlands.
Aoife: I liked planning out our exposition, I just find it a bit fun. I liked doing the extra bit of HW Miss Smith gave us. It was T.E.E. This stands for topic sentence, evidence and explanation.
Daisy: I liked learning about the causes of WW1.
Joshua: I liked learning about our new topic, The Great War, and, I liked getting to do Judo on Monday.
Amelia: I liked writing our Exposition, I just liked learning about it.
Josh: I liked doing the athletics in P.E when we had to do the races.
Inaya: I liked singing happy birthday to Joshua to nursery.

This week we had another visit from the Friendly Dragon. It left us a task to write to Jack to persuade him to pick either the harp or the hen that lays the golden eggs. We remembered our capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. We even used ‘because’. When we came back to school the next day our writing had little burnt bits on it and we knew the Dragon had read them and was so happy with our work. The Dragon also left us some special castle books to keep all our Fairyland work in. We got to decorate them.
In maths we have been learning to tell the time and we enjoyed using the Smartboard to draw the hands of the clock in to show the different times. We have also been practising counting in 5s and 10s this week and we are getting more confident each day. We have been learning the numbers in Spanish and we can count all the way up to 10.
For Art we made our own beanstalks and put a photo of ourselves on it so it looked like we were climbing the beanstalk. We tried to make sure that the bottom of the beanstalk was bigger and the top was smaller so it looked like it was very tall.
In PE we took part in a Judo session and it was so much fun.
Some of our personal highlights this week are:
Caleb – I enjoyed playing with the lego and I made a giant house.
Diana – I enjoyed playing with the cinema.
Jiade – I liked playing during outdoor learning.
Riley – I liked building the movie theatre.
Rory – I liked playing with the cinema.
Vivien – I liked playing at outdoor learning with the bikes.
Chimamanda – I liked playing with the bikes at outdoor learning.
Laura – I liked playing with everything.
Ollie – I liked playing in Creative Zone.

Hello P2A families!
Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Red Table:
Babfola loved playing Bingo with our magic e words with the ‘u’ vowel. He and his partner won! He was excited about getting a pop-it keychain prize.
Julia enjoyed playing ‘Table Mountain’ to practise her Two Times Tables.
Chijiakwu said the best part of his week was Number Talks. This week involved using a 100 Square and eliminating different numbers based on clues. The kids loved them!
David K was proud of himself for being awarded this week’s ‘Reading Champion’ which celebrates and recognises progress made in reading. Well done David!
Joe also loved playing ‘Table Mountain’, especially as one of the teams was called, ‘Team Joe’!
John said the highlight of his week was playing on the ipad during Choosing Time.
Zosia found the RE lesson about what happened to Jesus after her rose from the dead very interesting. She picked it as the best part of her week.
Aiden S enjoyed music with Mrs Morrison.
My highlight was our lesson on what is the difference between what is a ‘fact’ and what is an ‘opinion’. This was delivered through an Earth Day activity. The children learned that April 22nd is Earth Day, a day when people all over the world try to take care of our planet for God, for ourselves and for our future, even more than they already do (P2A had their lessons without the lights on). We went out into the playground and I called out various statements about Earth Day. The children had to go to the ‘Fact’ or ‘Opinion’ sign and then I revealed the answer. They all did very well – FACT!
Congratulations to this week’s Hot Chocolate award winner, Babafola.
Congratulations to David (as mentioned above) for being this fortnight’s Reading Champion.
