Primary 2/1 Learning Highlights 28th February 2025
This week we have been learning all about odd and even numbers using the Numicon pieces in Maths. We have had to sort them out into groups and then we were adding two odd numbers together and found out that they make an even number. We have also been using a counting on and counting back strategy to help us complete addition and subtraction sums.
In Literacy, we have been learning the ‘ch’ and ‘sh’ sounds. Ask us all about our train and how we remember these sounds. We have been using these sounds to spell words and completed a cut and stick task for this. We have started looking at Information Reports for writing and we wrote 3 sentences all about bees. The staff were very impressed with all the facts we managed to remember. We enjoyed some reading time with our P6 Reading Buddies this week and we are looking forward to seeing them again next week for some World Book Day activities.
In RE, we have continued to learn about the Creation Story. Also, Miss Stebbing was very impressed when we managed to say the Glory Be prayer all by ourselves.
In Topic, we have been learning all about bees. We created a word bank for our information reports and we used ‘are’, ‘can’ and ‘have’. We learned about the lifecycle of a bee and we were all able to confidently sequence the lifecycle. We also have models in the tuff tray to use to sequence the lifecycle. We drew a picture of a bee following instructions from Miss Stebbing and we have created a hive for them to live in. We also have models in the tuff tray to use to sequence the lifecycle.
For Outdoor Learning this week we used the iPads to take photos of living and non living things in the playground. Then we completed a literacy scavenger hunt with our groups. In the woodland, we learned to use the flints to make a spark which was very exciting!
Some of our personal highlights this week are:
Muhammad – I enjoyed playing with the bees.
Harmony – I enjoyed playing in the area.
Joseph – I enjoyed playing the Hexabonds game in maths.
Zenith – I enjoyed writing about the bees.
Vihaan – I enjoyed making my bee.
Freddie – I enjoyed making the bee hive.
Well done to Martha who is our Hot Chocolate Winner for this week. She has been showing confidence in writing sentences and recalling facts about bees.

P6B – WB 24.02.25
Dear Readers,
It has been a very busy week with Parents Appointments on Tuesday and Thursday and it has been great to have so many Parents and carers coming to find out about how we have been doing in class!😃
The highlights of the week were:
- Our Big surprise spelling assessment, on which most of us did very well, although we had no idea it was coming!✨
- Our Big surprise Maths Assessment, on which the majority of us did well but lots of us seemed to have forgotten about things that we have learned in P6😮! Mrs Valente wasn’t very happy about this so we had an extra focus on Maths throughout the week.
- Revision of the four operations over and over again: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Focus on Word Problems, since many of us seem to find it a bit hard to understand what exactly is being asked.
- Finishing our research about our chosen animal for the Information report.
- Writing our Information report about our chosen animal by following the correct structure of Title, General Statement, Description and Evaluation.
- Continuing our work in Biodiversity and learning about many different words related to it.
- In our Pope Francis Faith Award, we have learned about the 1st Gift of the Holy Spirit, the gift of Knowledge and of how it helps us to learn about God and to pass on that knowledge to others. We will continue working on this next week.
- We congratulate and sadly say goodbye to Mr Daniel A, who will need to go to a different school. We all agreed that he deserved the Hot Chocolate of the week for always being a good friend, for being such a valuable member of our class and also for his cheeky smile!😃👏👏🥇We will miss you a lot, Daniel!😥
- Finally, we would also like to congratulate the Scary Seas Table and say that Aiden, Lyon, Ishani M, Layla, Zac, Renna, Mariam and Ishani S. have been absolute✨at keeping their table and the space around it organised and tidy! Well done, again! Team work makes the dream work!🥇🏆♥
We say goodbye for now wishing you all a happy weekend filled with lovely things!

P6A Learning Highlights 28/2/25
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been another busy week in P6A ! Our class continued to develop our knowledge of biodiversity and we are all finding it interesting ! In literacy, we researched animals with a partner and used this information to write an information report . We are proud of our work and we are going to display completed work in our classroom! P6 have also had literacy and numeracy assessments this week, so that our teachers could get a clear picture of what we have understood and to highlight any areas that need to be revisited in our learning. We also enjoyed pairing up with our buddies in Primary 1 to read them a story. Here are some of our learning highlights:
Sam, Ishaan- ” We enjoyed writing our information report.”
Sophia and Julia- ” We liked learning more about biodiversity! ”
Baiboua ” Learning about different types of nouns was interesting.”
Damian, ” I actually enjoyed our numeracy and spelling assessments!”
Ameya and Nell ” It was good fun reading to our buddies in P1 ! ”
Congratulations to Sam on being nominated our hot chocolate winner this week for amazing behaviour and work!

P5B Week Beginning 24th February 2025
Hello P5B Families!
It was so lovely to have seen you at the consultations this week. I hope you enjoyed looking at your child’s work and hearing an update on the progress they are making in P5.
Here are the learning highlights for this week from the Yellow Table:
Cohen and Olek loved using the sweets, Nerds, to help them with their division sums. The different colours helped them to physically see the exchanges taking place when there were remainders. The best part? Eating them of course!
Moeez and Matthias enjoyed playing Counting Cowboys to practise their mental maths.
Jayden said the highlight of his week was going to Mass.
Scott enjoyed playing Rounders with me at PE.
Kacper loved basketball skills with Mrs Lafferty at PE.
Ella’s highlight was Free Writing Friday. She wrote an story called ‘Hop Into The Universe Dandy’. I am looking forward to reading this when it is finished and finding out if she met the challenge of adding any of this week’s Word Boost words.
My highlight was our learning about Edinburgh in the 18th Century with the development of the New Town. A city full of rich history!
A big congratulations to Haadiya, our Hot Chocolate award winner this week and a big thank you to Anthony for compiling this week’s photos of the Blog.
I hope you have a good weekend!

P5B Week Beginning 17th February 2025
Hello P5B families!
We did not get a chance to do a blog post on Friday so I will briefly write about some of the experiences your child had this week and the photos should hopefully give you an insight too into what we got up to:
Literacy – The children have been working hard on completing the final draft of the poem they wrote inspired by Robert Burns. The final versions are impressive! They include some old Scots vocabulary and are decorated with a Scottish themed border. We will compile them in to our very own ‘P5B Book of Scottish Poems’ that we hope you get a chance to browse on Parent’s Evening next week.
Maths – The children had an introduction to division this week and its links with multiplication. We started off with sums with no remainders and next week will move on to dividing 4 digit numbers by 1 digit.
Topic – The children had been working on independent research projects this term about a Scottish town or city and those that wanted to, presented theirs to the class (we are not finished our presentations yet). We spoke of the importance of how to deliver a presentation and the need for eye-contact, projection of voice and not just reading from the screen. After each presentation, the children received feedback from the class and then from myself. Even though we have technically moved on to a new topic, our learning about Scotland’s towns and cities will continue during Literacy as we learn about and subsequently write an information report on Edinburgh-Old and New.
Science – Our Climate Smart lessons continued this week with physically demonstrating how wind turbines generate electricity! The class worked in groups to build and then light up an LED light using wind generated from a hair dryer.
Story writing – Recently, the class had researched an animal of their choice and after examining the features of an information report, proceeded to plan and write their own information report. We discussed the importance of layout and images to support the text.
Congratulations to our reading champion this week, Aaeryn-Leigh and our hot chocolate winner, Olek!
I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday or Thursday for your consultation appointment. I hope you enjoy your weekend!

Primary 3 Learning Highlights 21st February
What a fantastic week in primary 3!
This week we have been revisiting subtraction from the week before the holiday. We have moved on and started learning about multiplication. We used different multiplication strategies like arrays, repeated addition, number lines and groups of, to figure out answers to multiplication questions.
We have all been working on our common words this week and will be nearing the end of our word lists in the next few weeks. For writing, we wrote a plan for an information report all about a famous celebrity from West Lothian and next week we will be writing it.
We learned all about celebrities from West Lothian for our topic this week, we learned who Elise Christie, David Tennant, Mary Queen of Scots and Lewis Capaldi are.
During RE this week, we had a look at the shamrock, and how St Patrick used this to explain to the Irish people the three parts of God, and that the three parts of God is called the Holy Trinity. The children made their own shamrocks showing this.
Well done to all of this weeks winners including the hot chocolate, secret student, table points, house winners and reading champion!
There has been no homework this week however homework will resume as normal on Seesaw next week.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Duddy.

P6B – WB 17.02.25
Dear Readers,
We hope you are all very well.
It was great getting back to school after the February break and seeing everyone again, so we were all a bit too much excited on Tuesday!😁
The highlights of the week were many, but these are the ones wrote by our new Blog Monitors, Matteo and Mariam:
- Power Point and Reading comprehension about Internet Safety after which almost everyone wanted to share their experiences about scams and issues they or their parents/families/friends had which were connected to the Internet. We heard lots of stories so that would can pass on the message and be alert against those same things in case they ever happen to us!
- Also regarding Internet Safety week, we have looked into the most well known social media apps( Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, X and TikTok) and most of us were very surprised to see the age restrictions for them! Ask your child how they felt about that, please!😉
- In Numeracy, we have worked hard on whole numbers divided by 10, 100 and 1000 and with that have started our decimals work for this year which, by the way, the children absolutely loved! The whole week was about introducing and reinforcing this.
- The information report is the next type of text we will be writing so, this week we have read an Information Report about Venomous Snakes and explored/revised its format and features. We have also worked on grammar related to the text by revising different types of nouns and our adjectives.
- On Wednesday there was a whole school Assembly to introduce the theme of the Jubilee 2025 – Pilgrims of Hope and the new challenge of making our own door holder to ‘Open our doors to Jesus.’♥ Also during the Assembly, we found out about the Joke Competition and got all excited about it!
- Since our new Topic is Biodiversity, we have watched a clip and are in the middle of taking our notes on it so that we can then choose what we would like to learn about first. It all seems very interesting and there were many questions about the meaning of herbivores, omnivores and carnivores, some of the many important words we will need to know the meanings of really well!
- The Friday started with Mass and Father Clement spoke to us about the important role of language, having explained how God wanted to punish people in the Bible ( Old Testament) by making them speak in different languages and therefore not being able to communicate. If we can understand each other, then we should be able to reach agreements and live in peace. This is one of the most important things we Pray for in our class everyday.
- Finally, we got to watch the end of ‘Brave’ from Disney, which we have started because Mrs Valente wanted to show how Scotland was organised in clans, in the old days, and how the tartans existed even by then. Everyone loved it!😃
- Many congratulations, in fact, triple congratulations to Miss Layla for being the Hot Chocolate of the week 🏆👏🥇, the Reader Leader of the fortnight 🏆👏🥇 and also for being in the winning table. The Scary Seas🏆👏🥇😃✨!!!!
- Congratulations to all the boys and girls from the Scary Seas as well, of course, Mariam, Ishani M, Ishani S, Renna, Zac, Aiden and Lyon! Super tidy, organised and well behaved!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
It’s all for now, we hope you have enjoyed reading about our week and wish you all a great weekend!

P6A Learning Highlights 21st February
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a short but busy week! We have started our new topic and we are all very interested to find out more facts about sustainability, conservation and biodiversity. In writing we started to learn about the layout of information reports and identified the verbs and adverbs in the text. During numeracy, we continued to learn about to division. We completed some examples which involved decimals and we really enjoyed this! Our class attended mass this week and Father Clement reminded us that we should try and stay close to God all the time , not just when things are going wrong . We also studied the beatitudes and created our own character to go with each blessing. Here are some of our learning highlights:
Sam- ” I enjoyed learning about decimals in maths.”
Ailsa ” Learning about the layout in information reports was interesting.”
Emily- ” I enjoyed learning about social media and online safety.”
Ishaan- ” I liked learning about biodiversity and creating our own mind maps.”
Pixie- ” Learning about the beatitudes and creating our own characters was good fun!.”
Congratulations to Ailsa, who was nominated as our hot chocolate winner this week!
Congratulations to Pixie, who is our reading champion for the next two weeks!
Have a super weekend!
