P5B Week Beginning 26th August 2024

Hello families of P5B!

Here are our highlights this week as recorded by the Blue table:

Anthony and Sean enjoyed playing Counting Cowboys!  This game involved shooting the answer to your partner while wearing a cowboy hat and pointing a water pistol (I have told the class that one day when they least expect it, water will be in the pistols!).  We played the game to revise some of the maths learning from P4.

Georgia and Amelia said the highlight of their week was when Mr Pentland took the class and the children played SumDog.  P5 SumDog logins, along with any others needed for homework (starting on Monday) will be issued on Monday.  Please keep these in a safe place.

Flynn and Scott LOVED the M&M production of The Railway Children.

Haadiya liked our learning on the ‘ea’ sound.  We practised our spreading skills, linked to this sound (spread on bread) with cherry and blackcurrant game and blew feathers in the air, having to say a ‘ea’ word in between breathes.

Nicolas also enjoyed blowing the feathers.

Olek liked learning about the Ten Commandments.  His writing of them on stone templates was chosen to go on the alter.  Well done Olek!

Addison liked joining in with the song that introduced the ‘ea’ sound.  We learned that it can be pronounced 3 different ways but we were just focusing on one of them this week.  Here is a link to the song in case your child wants to hear it again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDH0DOi9eHM

My highlight was our learning about the Ten Commandments.  This learning was not planned for this week but through some twists and turns, led to a discussion about it.  The children asked if they could find out more about God’s rules for our lives.  We had some in depth, meaningful discussion.

Congratulations to our hot chocolate award winner, Nathan!  Amelia also won it last week.  Well done you too!

I hope you manage to enjoy some of the lovely sun due this weekend

P1 Learning Highlights 30th August 2024

Another fun and busy week in P1.  This week we have been looking at where a noise or picture is located, if it is at the beginning, middle or end.  We also used hoops for the children to jump in to the hoop at the beginning, in the middle or at the end. We revised same and different vocabulary as well as loud and quiet.

We read the story A Little Spot of Sadness and the children made talking sentences of something that makes them sad.  We drew black line drawings of this and tried to scribe and mark make about our picture.

In Maths we looked at the numbers 2 and 3, what they look like as a quantity and as a number and we practised forming the numbers 2 and 3.  We looked at pattern in the environment and made our own patterns using loose parts.  We also stated to look at and name 2d shapes and sorting shapes.  We practised our cutting skills by completing a cut and stick shape activity.   We are continuing to enjoy counting forwards and backwards and we use a 100 square to help us look at the numbers as we count.

We watched a story about feeling angry and discussed what makes us feel angry and strategies to help us calm down.  We did talking sentences about what makes us angry.

We looked at photos of people who help us in school Mrs Mc Kissack and Mrs McLaughlin and the jobs they do.  We looked at our school crest and made our own.

In Spanish we are learning to say hello and the colours red, green, blue and yellow.  We sing a song to help us.

Today we got to meet up with our buddies for Outdoor learning.  We have lots of fun and used lots of equipment we even got to go on the bikes and scooters.

In Religion we learned how God loves all of us and that we are all special to God.  We are continuing to learn how to bless ourselves and the daily prayers.

Our Learning Highlights:

Alfie: ‘I liked doing our school badges and the marble run’

Tiara: ‘I liked reading’

Myra: ‘I liked drawing’

Ava: ‘I liked outdoor learning with our buddies’

Daniel: ‘I liked every single part of school’

Emilio: ‘I liked playing with my buddies and wearing my birthday crown’

Franek: ‘I liked playing with the toys’

Cerys: ‘I liked playing on the pirate ship’

Well done to Lena our Hot Chocolate winner this week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine.

Primary 2/1 Learning Highlights 30th August 2024

This week we have been learning how to write number 2 and 3 correctly. We have been practising on the whiteboards and also on the smartboard where we chose lots of different colours. Ask us about the number rhymes we use to remember how to write 2 and 3 correctly.

In Literacy, we have been learning about beginning, middle and end. We completed our first Seesaw task where we had to listen to the instructions and then put the animal in the correct place in the line. We did very well logging into Seesaw using the QR code.

In RE, we talked about our unique skills and talents. We then drew pictures above our photos to show these.

In Health and Wellbeing, we read the story about the Little Spot of Sadness. We talked about ways we can help people when they are sad and during Writing we wrote a sentence to show these ideas.

In PE, we have been using the hula hoops and playing different games to help us with our listening skills.

We have been practising saying the colours in Spanish and Mrs Broadley played a game with us where we had to listen to the colour and stand on the correct spot on the mat. It was great fun!

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Miles – I enjoyed doing PE.

Dhawan – I enjoyed playing in the sand.

Vihaan – I enjoyed playing with the blocks.

Tyler – I enjoyed playing with the puppets.

Dawid – I enjoyed drawing on the smartboard.

Miss Stebbing – I was very impressed with how hard everyone tried to write the numbers 2 and 3. It was tricky but everyone showed resilience and kept trying.

Congratulations to Freddie who is our Hot Chocolate Winner this week. He has tried very hard when writing his numbers and remembered the Word Boost Words.

P6B – WB 26.08.24

Dear  Readers,

We hope you have had a good week and are getting ready for a sunny weekend!😀🌄

This week in Primary 6B we have done many different things but the highlights were the following:

  • Our first spelling work with Word Boost words from our novel Nowhere Emporium.
  • Our work on place value which  was very interesting since we had numbers up to the millions to find the value of.
  • In RE, after having learned and worked on the Assumption of Mary, we have been developing our knowledge on the life of Moses, the Exodus and Jewish traditions which date back from the time of the Exodus. We will be continuing this work and will be locating and reading the Scriptures of the Book of Exodus directly from the Bible and discussing them.
  • We have learned about the difference between literal and inferential questions and have had the chance to work in pairs to ask our own literal questions about the class novel. At the end, all groups have asked their questions to the class and all of them have been correctly answered, which was brilliant!🤩
  • In Maths we have revised many 2d shapes and their properties and will continue working on them next week.
  • Our week has finished with Free Writing Friday and most of the children enjoyed that time to express themselves. Many children have asked to share their pieces of writing with the class and all had fun listening!😉
  • The adventures in the Nowhere Emporium continue and we are always wanting to know what happens next! It’s really addictive!📚🤔
  • This week is the 3rd and last for our Jobs Monitors which means that we will be choosing new ones on Monday so we would like to thank to all our Monitors for their super competent work! Well done!👏👏👏
  • We would like to congratulate our Hot Chocolate of the Week from last week, Miss Leah, for her excellent behaviour and focus on the learning. She was an absolute star✨ and, as a Line Leader, has tried to lead the class the best possible way! Well done, Leah!🥇
  • Many congratulations as well to the Hot Chocolate of this week, Miss Ishani M, for being a true example of good listening, participation in class and kindness! Thank you very much for all the help you have given when one of our IT monitors wasn’t well and you have covered for them in the most competent way ever, by helping all to get on their laptops, have the correct passwords and usernames and even swapping laptops when they ran out of battery! Well done, Ishani M!🥇👏

That’s all for this week, we say goodbye for now wishing everyone a lovely weekend!

P6B and Mrs Valente 😘😘

P4A – Welcome to our Blog!

Hello families of P4A!😁

Welcome to our Glow Blog!.

Over the past three weeks we have been settling back into our routine and working super hard alongside our new teachers Miss Maxwell and Mr Pentland. We have completed some amazing work and we have begun displaying this on our walls.

We have generated our classroom expectations and designed our class charter which we have also displayed in our room to highlight what we believe makes a great, equitable and safe classroom for all.

Some of our highlights from the past three weeks;

Linda shared a great writing piece when we completed our ‘Letters to our future self’. Here she showed she has retained knowledge of what we should always include in our writing such as good grammar and punctuation.  Well done Linda!

Zion showcased his incredible maths skills as we played some interactive games on the board which help us revise our multiplication. Amazing work Zion!

Tiwa and Bodhini, both of our new starts have settled in well to our classroom and are great friends to all of the children in the class. We are delighted to have them join us as part of our family at St John Ogilvie.

Our hot chocolate winner of week 2- Diana- For always being so kind to everyone and for consistently focusing on her work.

Our hot chocolate winner of week 3 – Caiden- For being responsible and making good choices and also completing his work to an amazing standard!. Keep up the great work Caiden!.

P4A have spent some time in the nursery over the past two weeks, to which they really enjoyed and took great pride in being positive role models for their younger peers.

Miss Maxwell really enjoyed meeting some of the parents at meet the teacher  and is looking forward to working alongside them as the year goes on.

P4A have established a firm routine of which we will carry into next week as we progress to following on our curriculum and kick starting our P4 work for the year!

P5B Week Beginning 19th August 2024

Hello families of P5B!

The children have had a super 2nd week back at school.  I cannot believe 2 weeks have passed already!  Here are our highlights this week as recorded by the Red table:

Cohen has enjoying building pathways using the marble run and playing chess.

Kacper said the best part of his week has been dancing to Go Noodle.  The Line Leader each week gets to choose the daily GoNoodle dance.  This serves as a short brain break for the children as well as improving their fitness levels.

Matthias loved dodgeball at PE this week.

Rowan’s highlight has been playing checkers.  P5 have some strategic thinkers in the class!

Aaeryn-Leigh, along with the whole class, have been enjoying a chapter a day of our class novel ‘The Midnight Gang.’  This week it was our author, David Walliams’ birthday, so we learned about his life and answered some questions afterwards.  An interesting piece of information was that he was born David Williams but changed his surname as there was already a famous actor with his name.  He has also raised 3 million pounds for Sports Relief through swimming The Thames and The English Channel.  The children like Mrs Brown doing all the different voices!

Jayden has being enjoying our Daily Wake Up activities.  These activities have a mixture of Literacy and Numeracy tasks to get the children’s brains warmed up after the summer holidays.  Jayden has been particularly enjoying the ‘Number Corner’.  After going through the various calculations, we discuss the most effective strategies for finding the answer.

My highlight has been making a classroom charter with the children.  We had a revision session on their Rights and our school values of being Ready, Respectful and Safe.  Collaboratively, we wrote a classroom statement and bullet pointed what actions we as a class were going to take to action this agreement, then everyone signed the contract.  If you were at the Meet the Teacher event, you may have noticed it on our window.

Meet the Teacher

At this event, I gave out a print out of the slides and a ‘Tell me about your child’ page for you to return filled in.  If you did not receive these, then please remind your child to take them home or phone to office to request them.  I look forward to reading what you have written about your child to get to know them a bit better.

Homework

Homework will begin week beginning 2nd September.  Your child will bring login details home and a reminder guide about how to access Teams from different devices.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Primary 2/1 Learning Highlights 23rd August 2024

This week we have been learning how to write zero and one correctly. We learned a little rhyme to help us remember the correct formation. We have also been ordering numbers and finding the missing numbers.

In Literacy, we have been identifying sounds that are the same and not the same. We also had to circle pictures to show which one was the same and then which one was the odd one out. In writing, we did our first piece of writing in our jotters and we wrote a sentence about what made us feel happy. We also drew a picture and the staff were very impressed with the detail in our drawings.

In RE, we are continuing to learn our daily prayers and we set up our classroom altar.

We enjoyed playing different games in PE with Mrs Lafferty and practising listening carefully to the instructions.

On Wednesday, we had our first House Group meeting and we got to go to different classrooms. We had to vote on which name we wanted our House to be called.

On Friday, we had some time with our buddies and we did some reading with them.

Here are some of our personal highlights this week:

Miles – I enjoyed playing with the penguins.

Dhawan – I enjoyed playing with the blocks.

Zenith – I enjoyed doing writing.

Amariah – I enjoyed cutting out.
