Week Beginning 2nd May 2022

P2B have been busy during this short week at school.

We have been practicing the 5 times table and exploring division too. We have been learning how to say the months in Spanish and will continue to practice this. For some revision, we have been playing different games to practice spelling common words – bingo was the favourite!

We read the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and discussed the message about not being too greedy. We then looked at different famous bridges – the children recognised some of them and Sean shared that he went to see the Forth Road Bridge and Rail Bridge yesterday. The children then took part in a building a bridge challenge. In teams they had to make a bridge that would be strong enough to hold the Three Billy Goats so they could safely cross over to the other table. They made super bridges and worked really well in their teams.

Here are some pictures from our bridge challenge:

Highlights from the blue table:

Sean – I thought PE was the best because I love throwing things as far as I can.

Rowan – I liked building a bridge for the Three Billy Goats to cross. My bridge was super strong and my team won the challenge.

Nicolas – I liked the building challenge too because I really like building bridges and other things.

Olek – I liked the building bridges because we used lots of things to make the bridge strong and long enough so it could hold the Three Billy Goats toys.

Moeez – I liked common word bingo because I won the prize.

Congratulations to Sean who is our new Reading Champion!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence

P1B Learning Highlights Week Beginning 25th April

It has been another very busy week in p1B.

We had another visit from the Friendly Dragon from Fairyland.  He was very excited to see the leaves we made last week and used them to make a magical beanstalk in our classroom.  He also left us Castle Books to put all our learning about Fairyland in to keep it safe.  We decorated our castle books drawing lots of different fairy tale characters.  We have also been writing letters and drawing pictures for the Dragon and posting them in our ‘D Mail’ post box.

In Literacy this week we continued to practise our sounds and common words.  We also completed a piece of persuasive writing.  We had to decide if Jack should choose the hen or the golden harp to take from the Giant’s castle.  Mrs Russell was very impressed with all our hard work.

In Art we created our own beanstalk using pencils and crayons.  We used cotton wool for the clouds and added a photograph of ourselves.  It looked like we were climbing up our own magical beanstalk.  We have them displayed in the area outside our classroom.

In Maths and Numeracy we have been counting in 2’s and 10’s.  We are learning some counting songs which is making it lots of fun.  We also looked at addition and subtraction sums as well.

Congratulations to Lilly who is this week’s Hot Chocolate winner.

Safaa is our Reading Champion and well done to the Green Table who won the most table points this week.

We hope you all have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and we can’t wait for Tuesday to see if anything magical has happened in our classroom or if we receive a letter from the Dragon again.

P2A Week Beginning 25th April

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Yellow and Blue Tables:

Kyle enjoyed listening to the story of ‘The Boy who Cried Wolf’ and learning the important message about always telling the truth.  He was a villager in our role-play of the story.

Ruari said his favourite part of the week was Word Boost.  He liked the word ‘explore’ best and shared how he loves to explore in the woods.  He got very excited to learn that one of our lessons next week will be in the woods!

Pola’s highlight was finding out the name of our new topic, ‘Good Versus Evil – The Moral of the Story’.  Next week we will focus on the story, ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’.

Paige liked PE this week and got excited to wear the bibs.

Ollie liked it when Mrs Ross taught the class on Monday when Mrs Devlin was off sick.  Mrs Ross brought cookies to teach about division.  Yum!

Ella loved PM writing this week.  The children continued to learn about persuasive writing (otherwise known as Expositions) and wrote about the importance of learning about road safety.  Ella’s writing in particular stressed the need to wear seatbelts to keep you safe in a car.  Well done Ella!  You included: Title, Statement of Position, Series of Arguments and a Concluding Statement – all the parts that make up a piece of persuasive writing.

My highlight was the RE lesson about how children are very precious to God.  We had a lovely service with music where each child received their name decorated that another child made for them.  In turn, each person was told how much God loves them and how precious they are in His eyes.

Congratulations to our hot chocolate award winner, Izaan!

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend and I will see you all on Tuesday.

P7B Update

A great week in P7B!

Numeracy

For numeracy this week, Xander, Vivaan and Alex agreed on their enjoyment of function machines and the introduction of algebraic equations!

Literacy

We finalised our fantastic expositions this week! Ask the children about these! We peer marked our partner’s work and provided great notes on what went well and provided feedforward to make them even better. We enjoyed working on our reciprocal reading strategies this week!

IDL

We looked  democracy this week! We created our own self-directed political parties, gave each other jobs and started writing our manifestos, speeches and persuasive displays. The children have been working very hard on this and are working very well together! A special well done to our campaign mangers for directing their teams so well!

Health

Our right this week focused on access to information from the media. We were reminded to be critical thinkers and to speak up if we think something doesn’t seem quite right. We continued our work on Zones of Regulation and are becoming much more confident explaining which zone we are in and how to be ready for learning. We had a great session on our goals and how we can use other people’s experience to support us in achieving our goals! The children will continue thinking about this next week!

Hot Chocolate at Home – Shining Star

Sneha! Well done, very much deserved!

Reminder

We are off Monday and Thursday next week!

Have a great long weekend P7! I will see you on Tuesday!

P2B Week Beginning 25th April

Hello Parents,

Here is an overview of what we plan to learn this term:

P2 – Forward Plan overview Term 4

P2B have had a great week, here are some of the things we have been learning:

  • Maths – dividing by 2, linking with halving and how it is the opposite of multiplying by 2 (doubling). 5 times table, practicing our counting in 5s and writing out sums using the correct signs.
  • Literacy – common word revision on the whiteboards. This was a super fun way to practice, listening to the word and writing it as many times on the board as they could within 30 seconds! We have also been working hard at planning and writing exposition texts about Road Safety.
  • Topic – we started our new topic of Good vs Evil, thinking about the moral of stories. We listened to The Boy Who Cried Wolf and spoke about the importance of being honest.
  • Other learning included an introduction to farming, athletics, a judo taster session for PE and Zones of Regulation (learning about our emotions and how to manage how we are feeling so we can get into the green zone).

Here are highlights from the red table:

Aaeryn-Leigh – I liked listening to the country mouse and the town mouse story because I liked the differences. In the city there was yummy food and dogs but the other mouse had a peaceful life in the countryside so it was more interesting. We live in a town and that is the grey bits on the Google Map and the green is the lovely country for farming.

Jayden – I liked going outside with Miss Lawrence for PE, we done lots of running and I am fast.

Michael – I liked PE doing the Judo because we were learning lots.

Matthias – I liked doing PE doing the racing games. You had to run to the cone and then back and then to then next cone and then back and then to the next one and all the way back and try to beat the other teams who are running too.

Amelia – I liked when we were writing about road safety because it was fun.

Kacper – I liked the number talks because it was good and I got to work with Matthias and we got it right.

Well done to Daniel for winning the Hot Chocolate Award.

Have a super weekend,

Miss Lawrence

Primary 6B -Learning highlights

RE: In RE this week we have revised our Pope Francis Faith Award and explored the Gift of Fortitude. The children are working on this gift in class but are encouraged to try some targets at home too. Next week we will begin to explore the Gift Fear of the Lord.

Literacy: We have been continuing to work on expositional writing and write with the use of persuasive language and convince our audience. We have been drafting and editing our House/Vice captain speeches and hope to have these ready to present to the other classes in the school soon.

Math: We have been learning the rules of coordinates and have successfully plotted points using the x and y axis. We also enjoyed our Sumdog and Prodigy challenges this week. On Friday we had fun playing times table bingo with some lucky children winning prizes. Next week we hope to work on symmetry as part of our outdoor learning.

IDL: This week we have been researching the Scottish Parliament and found out that the Scottish Government are in charge of devolved matters like, education, transport and health. But the UK Government are in charge of reserved matters like the army.

Over and above: Our hot chocolate winner this week was Julia, very well deserved, keep up the good work!

Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the holiday Monday!
